Wilderness Survival with Druid System

Chapter 591: Chapter 90: Trap

What else can a fishing net be used for besides catching fish?

On the program’s side.

Upon seeing Chen Wen spreading the fishing net on the open ground outside the shelter.

Everyone started to guess.

”Could it possibly be... used to make a hammock?”

This was a staff member who prioritizes comfort.

”No way, in this freezing weather, people would freeze to death! I think it should be made into a storage platform to keep the food.”

This was a more pragmatic staff member.

”Hard to say. Considering Chen Wen’s peculiar ideas, he might have some fascinating use for it, like hunting - similar to Fred, turning the fishing net into a trap.”

This was a staff member adept at guessing others’ thoughts.

Soon, Chen Wen’s actions confirmed this staff member’s guess.

After picking up the fishing net, Chen Wen used a saw and axe to cut down some wood from the forest around the shelter and dragged it into the shelter.

The large noise naturally attracted the attention of the animals.

The eagle perched on the eaves of the shelter, curiously watching Chen Wen.

The semi-hibernating wolf mink also crawled out of the warm shelter, observing Chen Wen’s every move.

”What are you doing?”

The wolf mink yawned and asked.

Chen Wen glanced at the rarely seen wolf mink and explained with a smile: ”Making a trap, preparing to hunt a bear!”

These words piqued the wolf mink’s interest.

It shook its fur and said: ”Heh heh, that gray bear, huh? You should call me then! I want to deal with it too!”

”Last time, I just took a bite or two of its meat, and it dared to chase me for so long! Now it’s actually thinking about our food? I won’t let it off this time!”

The wolf mink said angrily.

Even the urge to hibernate was gone.

Upon hearing the wolf mink’s words, the eagle said worriedly: ”But it’s so big, how are we going to handle it?”

”I think you’ll be swatted away before you even get near it.”

Upon hearing this, the wolf mink wanted to retort.

But recalling the scene of being chased by the gray bear, it shivered uncontrollably: ”This... depends on Chen Wen’s methods.”

Through these days of interaction, there was no distance between the animals and Chen Wen anymore.

Trust has thoroughly spread between them, fastening them firmly together.

Upon hearing this, Chen Wen showcased the trap he was about to make and said: ”Don’t worry, as long as we can get the gray bear into the trap this time, I guarantee it won’t get near us!”

This statement aroused great curiosity in both animals.

They looked at what was in Chen Wen’s hand—wasn’t it just the fishing net?

Could this thing restrain a gray bear?

Seeming to detect the two animals’ doubts, Chen Wen explained: ”The raw materials of this fishing net are the crystallization of human industry. The texture of these ropes I’m not very sure about, but they are strong and flexible. Even for me, it’s not easy to break the ropes casually.”

Chen Wen’s strength is quite substantial now.

But when he tried pulling the rope barehanded, using all his strength, he merely deformed the rope without breaking it.

Enough to illustrate the rope’s toughness and durability.

Humans are truly an amazing species.

The wolf mink and eagle internally muttered simultaneously.

They had also felt these ropes.

”Are you planning to use the ropes to tie up the gray bear?”

The wolf mink curiously asked Chen Wen.

Chen Wen thought for a moment, then said: ”Well, not exactly tying, but trapping! ”

Tying?

Trapping?

The wolf mink was a little confused and feeling sleepy again.

Wow, greedy, lazy, and resistant to learning.

This wolf mink was just like me during college!

Chen Wen muttered internally and directly called the wolf mink over.

”You go in there and feel it.”

Upon these words, the wolf mink finally stopped being confused.

It lowered its head and drilled into the fishing net.

Once the wolf mink got inside, Chen Wen let it try coming out: ”Try, if you get out, I’ll make you some salt-cooked meat for lunch. Although now the fishing net is not a complete trap, I will act as an obstacle while you try, simulating a complete trap.”

The wolf mink grinned and said: ”Okay, but I should definitely get that meat!”

Then, the wolf mink stretched its head, attempting to squeeze through the net’s mesh.

The mesh of the net was not small, but for land animals, it wasn’t considered large.

Alongside Chen Wen, only the slim-bodied Ermine could slip through the mesh.

After trying a bit, the wolf mink nearly got its neck stuck inside.

After Chen Wen removed the fishing net, he laughed and said: ”Squeezing through won’t work, try another method.”

At this time, the eagle from above spotted some clues: ”King Kong Wolf, try coming out from the edge of the net, you are strong, just one push and you should be out!”

Upon hearing this, the wolf mink’s eyes lit up.

Just as it planned to squeeze out from there, Chen Wen suddenly pressed a round log on that side.

”What are you doing?”

The wolf mink got a bit anxious: ”You won’t let me out? Stingy with the meat?”

Chen Wen’s smile remained undiminished: ”I clearly said earlier, the trap isn’t complete now, I would simulate a complete trap and you agreed to it!”

The eagle nodded: ”Yes, that did happen.”

The wolf mink said no more, but tried pushing the round log aside.

But this thing, even if Chen Wen carried it, would require some effort.

Let alone the wolf mink.

After trying for a long time, the log didn’t budge.

Only then did the wolf mink realize the power of this trap.

Squeezing through didn’t work, pushing the log didn’t work either, and dragging the trap along was impossible.

After fretting for some time, the wolf mink gave up: ”Let me out! I don’t want the meat!”

Chen Wen laughed heartily and released the wolf mink.

By now, both the wolf mink and eagle understood the purpose of Chen Wen’s trap.

”But the gray bear is far stronger than King Kong Wolf, I feel even if you can trap it, it won’t be for long.”

The eagle said.

Chen Wen nodded.

Of course, it wouldn’t be long.

But he wouldn’t take long to hunt this gray bear either.

This time, Chen Wen had prepared two plans. If the gray bear couldn’t escape the trap quickly, he would use stone spears for bloodletting, grinding it down slowly.

If the gray bear escaped the trap quickly, he would use the long spear to deliver a decisive blow!

After having the wolf mink test the trap, Chen Wen did not skimp on its food.

At noon, Chen Wen cooked some musk ox meat, added some salt, and shared some with the wolf mink.

Meanwhile, he also began eating the musk ox meat himself.

These days Chen Wen mainly consumed the previously smoked meat; he hadn’t touched the fresh meat at all.

He had yet to acquire many attributes, such as those for snow hare, musk ox, and rainbow trout.

Now that the smoked meat had been eaten a bit, these attributes were gradually being obtained over these few days.

A mouthful of musk ox meat went down.

Fat-laden musk ox meat tasted quite nice, especially for Chen Wen who urgently needs fat.

The mild oily aroma was more enticing to Chen Wen now than drugs.

Taking a big bite of fat-rich musk ox meat, Chen Wen sighed comfortably.

”If only there was garlic, chive flowers, or chili sauce, the flavor... would be absolutely delightful!”

He sighed, realizing they didn’t have those conditions now.

Just had to eat boiled meat as is.

Continuing to eat beef, he took a sip of slightly salty broth and sighed once more.

The difference between fresh meat and smoked meat is substantial!

This flavor is one smoked meat absolutely doesn’t have.

However, he stored quite a bit of fat, and later on, he could experiment with making some oil from the fat, trying to sauté the smoked meat.

Perhaps it might have a unique flavor.

Just then, the system reacted.

The musk ox attributes were now acquirable.
