Chapter 1317: Chapter 696: A Surprise for You

Yao Yuanfeng has been a benefactor to Wen Bing, a fact no one can deny.

Frankly, Wen Bing becoming a film director is truly thanks to Yao Yuanfeng’s appreciation.

Before New Shield gave Wen Bing a chance, he was just a commercial director.

Even if Wen Bing was talented, without a chance, he might have remained a commercial director for his whole life.

People always need that one opportunity to change their fate at the very beginning.

Now, the outside world praises Wen Bing as if he’s a genius, astonishing and talented. But before he directed ”Life,” Wen Bing had met with many film production companies. They had interacted with him but ultimately, no one was willing to give him the opportunity.

In Wen Bing’s heart, he has always appreciated Yao Yuanfeng’s recognition. However, this gratitude cannot withstand the wear and tear of many specific conflicts and interests.

Wen Bing is a director; he certainly has his own pursuits and things he wants to film.

But, Yao Yuanfeng is a boss with a strong desire to control.

He is not just content with investing in a movie; he won’t really give Wen Bing the creative control over the content.

He can respect Wen Bing, but he cannot trust Wen Bing unconditionally.

This is also normal.

All of it is indeed normal.

Wen Bing needs a more free space for creativity, like when they first filmed ”Life,” they didn’t expect much from the movie, merely fulfilling Wen Bing’s wish, so they did not interfere with his creation at all.

That was when Wen Bing was happiest in his creativity.

When filming ”Two Tigers,” Wen Bing felt constraints from all directions.

What irritates Wen Bing most about New Shield is its script review committee. The content of a film has to be decided by the committee.

The key point is that Yao Yuanfeng strongly supports the existence of this department, which makes Wen Bing feel very painful during the creative process.

During the script creation of the film ”Female Assassin,” this feeling became even more apparent.

Someone even proposed to add a love subplot to Qiu Qian’s female assassin character.

Actually, according to Wen Bing’s idea, he didn’t want to add a love subplot to this character.

He only wanted to shoot a female assassin who is emotionally detached and walks the world alone.

But he has to compromise, otherwise, the film cannot start production.

Wen Bing’s every success proves his talent, but even after ”Two Tigers” achieved a 2 billion box office, Yao Yuanfeng still arranged for Zeng Yeng, a producer like that, to restrain him during filming.

Wen Bing is grateful to Yao Yuanfeng, but it doesn’t mean he’s willing to endure these things indefinitely.

Yao Yuanfeng suddenly came at this moment.

He called Wen Bing out for a drink.

”Wen Bing, it’s been tough on you lately.” Yao Yuanfeng sighed with emotion as he sat down, ”You’ve been filming back-to-back since joining my company for two years, without taking a proper vacation. Once this movie is done, where do you want to go for a break? I’ll arrange a vacation for you, how about it? Where do you want to go, Maldives or Hawaii?”

Yao Yuanfeng didn’t put on any airs as a boss, more like an elder brother caring for his younger sibling.

Seeing Yao Yuanfeng’s attitude, the originally stern expression on Wen Bing’s face eased a little.

”I’m naturally a workaholic; truly, if you asked me to take a vacation, I wouldn’t even have the mindset for it.” Wen Bing said, ”President Yao, you have so many responsibilities; why have you suddenly come?”

”It’s because Chen Wenjun, that old fox, came to find Zhou Yun, how could I be at ease?” Yao Yuanfeng first used this excuse, then said, ”On the other hand, I also know you’ve been feeling uncomfortable lately, so I felt it necessary to come by and talk to you.”

Wen Bing shook his head.

He said: ”I’m alright.”

”Don’t pretend in front of me.” Yao Yuanfeng laughed heartily a couple of times, saying, ”If you’re uncomfortable, then you’re uncomfortable. If I faced those situations, I’d feel uncomfortable too. Wen Bing, do you know what I admire most about you? You never hide things in your heart. Your feelings, attitude, whether happy or unhappy, are all clear on your face, straightforward and obvious. You’re different from us; you’re a director, an artist. You don’t have to suppress your emotions, especially in front of me. If you have any troubles, I would definitely be the first to help you solve them.”
