Caught in Affairs with Superstar

Chapter 959: Chapter 584: Reversal (Part 2)

She kept it in mind, and went to ask Zhou Lan.

Zhou Lan said, ”This script did come to us, but at that time, you didn’t have availability, and also, this TV drama is actually an ancient romantic comedy. Although the script is good, it no longer fits your acting path, so I directly turned it down. It’s not that they didn’t send it.”

Upon hearing Zhou Lan’s explanation, Zhou Yun understood.

”That’s good. I was worried that they directly rejected it because the screenwriter is a newcomer.”

In Zhou Yun’s team, someone is specifically responsible for reviewing scripts.

Like the script ”Deep Sea,” they favored it, submitted it to Zhou Lan, and then Zhou Lan passed it to Zhou Yun.

Zhou Lan said, ”They are quite responsible. No matter if they approve of the script or not, they will write an opinion. I don’t have the time to read every script, so I generally look at their opinions first. It’s clear they take this seriously. Rest assured, I’m keeping an eye on the scripts and won’t be careless.”

”Good,” Zhou Yun nodded.

Qin Miaoyin’s interview caused quite a stir online.

People focused on the fact that such a script couldn’t attract a renowned actor.

Many mocked, saying no wonder there are so many bad dramas nowadays; it’s not because of a lack of good scripts but because people fail to recognize a gem.

Currently, in every phase of production, there is a tendency to favor big projects.

Actually, it’s not blind faith but when a talented group works on a project together, it tends to produce quality work.

If such a talented group can’t produce something good, it’s definitely not due to a lack of ability.

In reality, there are countless low-budget web dramas produced annually, but only a few emerge as dark horses.

No top-tier actor would easily star in a low-budget web drama, because it’s not just about whether the drama airs, but it affects the actor’s market value.

Zhou Lan explained why ”Imperially Granted Constable” isn’t suitable for Zhou Yun.

It’s simple; if Zhou Yun were to act in ”Imperially Granted Constable,” everyone would think she’s lost her mind, choosing it over a grand production for a sweet romantic ancient drama.

Both the industry and the audience don’t see Zhou Yun as suitable for acting in such dramas anymore.

”Yuk Chu’s reputation improved,” Zhou Lan happily said when discussing with Zhou Yun again, ”Qin Miaoyin’s interview made a big impact on Yuk Chu’s image, especially noting that without Yuk Chu’s lead, the platform might not even produce or purchase the drama. People are very grateful that Yuk Chu took the role.”

Zhou Yun said, ”Qin Miaoyin is probably being noticed by many companies now. What’s her next script about?”

Zhou Lan said, ”The platform sees the popularity of ’Imperially Granted Constable’ and is contacting the original team to plan a second season.”

”Second season?”

”Since it’s a detective drama, this kind of genre and structure being made into a series is quite normal,” Zhou Lan replied, ”The platform has also approached me, wanting to invite Yuk Chu back to star in the second season.”

”Do you plan to let Yuk Chu act?” Zhou Yun asked.

”Of course, she should act! It’s obviously going to be a hit; why wouldn’t we let Yuk Chu do the sequel? Her pay has increased significantly,” Zhou Lan marveled, ”Besides, people used to say Yuk Chu’s acting was average, but let’s have her rise from where she fell. Her acting has improved a lot since the time of ’Imperially Granted Constable.’

Zhou Yun nodded.

Zhou Lan grinned happily, saying, ”I bet Yuk Chu’s previous agency is fuming. She just signed with me and immediately stars in a hit, becoming instantly popular.”

Zhou Yun said, ”You deserve some credit for it. If it wasn’t for your series of promotions and marketing for this drama, it might not have become so popular.”

”That’s true,” Zhou Lan shrugged, ”Anyway, everybody in the company is envious now, especially the other agents, oh my, the subtle jealousy was palpable the last time I went back to the company.”

Zhou Yun laughed.

Zhou Lan is certainly in high spirits now, representing three actresses—from Zhou Yun to Wang Jing and Yuk Chu. They’re all rising stars, making these three capable of carrying an agency’s reputation, but now all are under Zhou Lan’s management.
