Caught in Affairs with Superstar

Chapter 952: Chapter 582: [Chen Yin]_2

Zhou Yun was thinking, if she were a producer, if she were the owner of a film company, she would also like to use a director like Cui Xidong.

Zhou Yun initially thought that even if work resumed on her side the next day, it would be an assistant director temporarily in charge, and that Cui Xidong would need at least a couple of days to recuperate before returning.

To her surprise, when Zhou Yun arrived on set the next day, she found that Cui Xidong was already there, instructing each department on various matters.

He was wearing a sun-shielding hat, his face still showing a trace of weakness, but he was tenaciously and powerfully in control of everything on set.

Yuk Chu came over to her side, sighed, and said, ”I didn’t expect Cui Xidong to return so quickly; I thought he would stay in the hospital for a few more days.”

”He couldn’t leave the crew unwatched,” Zhou Yun said.

”That’s true; if he doesn’t come to the site, others wouldn’t accept supervision either,” Yuk Chu said. ”Xiao Yun, haven’t you noticed that even though we all say Cui Xidong doesn’t have much directorial talent, on set, everyone listens to and trusts him? Whatever he says, we all abide by it.”

Zhou Yun nodded.

”That’s his directorial ability, no matter what others say. On the set, no one disagrees with him.”

”He has great respect for the script. To be honest, if there’s a well-written script that you can start filming as soon as it’s in hand, I think hiring him as a director is actually quite suitable,” Yuk Chu said. ”He never messes around.”

”Director!” Liu Linglu, having just arrived on the set, suddenly shouted.

Cui Xidong turned to look at her.

Liu Linglu rushed over, concerned, and asked, ”Why are you here? Are you feeling better?”

Cui Xidong nodded with a smile, saying, ”I’m much better, no worries.”

Liu Linglu said, ”But you should still rest a bit more. Why did you come back to the crew so quickly?”

”The sooner we finish filming, the sooner I can properly rest. Even while I was in the hospital, my mind was still on the filming, and I couldn’t relax properly.”

Liu Linglu said, ”Director, you’re truly moving us.”

Cui Xidong laughed and said, ”Don’t be moved just yet. Have you memorized your lines for the scene you’re about to shoot?”

”I’ve memorized them, of course I have,” Liu Linglu nodded. ”When you previously talked to me about thoroughly memorizing the script, I took it to heart.”

The content of their conversation made Zhou Yun even more reflective.

Thinking back, Liu Linglu got so upset over refusing to accept her character’s setting that she stormed out of the script reading. Yet, she had become so close to Cui Xidong somehow.

As Yuk Chu said, Cui Xidong is just a director who seems to ”lack ability.”

But when everyone thought he ”lacked ability,” he already had the entire crew in his hands.

Thinking about it, Zhou Yun suddenly thought of the director of ”Four Killers,” and compared to that famously talented director, Zhou Yun was more willing to collaborate with Cui Xidong again.

In Zhou Yun’s mind, Cui Xidong was the more reliable person.

Zhou Yun went to find Xu Jinbo to talk about future filming matters.

”Let’s not film the night scenes for now,” Zhou Yun said. ”Let Director Cui rest properly.”

Xu Jinbo nodded and said, ”I was just about to talk to you about this. Fortunately, this time nothing major happened to Director Cui. After taking a bit of glucose and resting for a night, he pulled through. But I fear if he continues like this, it will have a bigger impact on his health.”

”Sigh. This matter should blame me.”

”Don’t say that. It was me who didn’t think it through back then. I, too, was eager to finish this movie sooner,” Xu Jinbo said with a helpless smile. ”As reality proves, any greed inevitably requires a price.”

...

Kang Xin stood up, stretched his arms, and the joints in his bones made cracking sounds from sitting too long.

As he ages, he’s increasingly feeling the lack of energy.

He used to be able to prepare for a project by staying up all night, but now he can’t pull an all-nighter no matter what.

He has several projects in preparation. These projects are all ones he’s interested in and wants to direct. However, the progress of each project is different.

Some projects have yet to secure investment, some haven’t found suitable actors, and some scripts haven’t been revised to his satisfaction.

For a director at Kang Xin’s level, every project he directs is an adventure, a gamble on his status, reputation, and standing.
