Reborn As Super Heiress

Chapter 1092: Chapter 1088: Judging by Appearances

Han Wen heard this and already sensed something was off: ”Your younger brother-in-law’s partner is a student performing magic? Wait, earlier you said you wanted to introduce an appropriate candidate to me, don’t tell me the person you’re referring to is actually your potential sister-in-law?”

Chen Yu nodded and said, ”Yes, it’s her. Don’t underestimate my future sister-in-law; this girl is not a simple character.”

Chen Yu wanted to explain further, but Han Wen furrowed her brows first.

After all, performing on the Spring Festival Gala stage on New Year’s Eve is live, facing not only national leaders in the audience but all Chinese people worldwide. This isn’t child’s play, nor a trivial matter. Letting a student take charge to perform a magic act — the idea didn’t sit right with Han Wen.

Standing nearby, Liu Chunying was stunned. She originally intended to introduce a candidate to Han Wen, but didn’t expect Chen Yu to beat her to it. While feeling anxious inside, Liu Chunying was surprised to see that the person Chen Yu introduced turned out to be what she had in mind too.

This young girl called Huo Sining was actually Chen Yu’s future sister-in-law, something Liu Chunying never anticipated.

Chen Yu worked for the Department of Cultural Promotion and also had another identity—she was the eldest daughter-in-law of the Gu Family. Hence, Huo Sining, being Chen Yu’s sister-in-law, implied that the young girl would marry into the Gu Family.

Considering the Gu Family’s status to think highly of such a young girl, it showed that the girl’s background wasn’t minor either, possibly a daughter from a prominent family.

Though Liu Chunying thought about this deep down, her expression didn’t reveal any of it, and she wasn’t concerned with Huo Sining’s exact identity.

Over the years, stars have leveraged familial influence to get on the Gala stage, as seen with someone from the Han family—whose performances weren’t outstanding, yet they appeared at the Gala several times thanks to Han Wen’s connections.

Thus, Liu Chunying didn’t mind Chen Yu conveniently recommending her own sister-in-law to Han Wen. What she prioritized was a presentable show; she wasn’t concerned about the person’s background or identity.

Seeing Han Wen frown, Liu Chunying couldn’t resist laughing, and said:

”What a coincidence, I rushed over here to find Director Han just to recommend Huo Sining to you, and I didn’t expect Chen Yu to have already introduced her first.”

Han Wen, upon hearing this, immediately turned around to look at Liu Chunying, with keen suspicion in her eyes: ”This Huo Sining is Chen Yu’s sister-in-law, which makes sense why she knows her. But how do you know her?”

Liu Chunying saw Han Wen’s expression and understood she suspected her of saying this to curry favor with Chen Yu and the Gu Family. But Liu Chunying stayed calm on the surface, as she wasn’t being biased herself nor intended to cozy up to Chen Yu and the Gu Family. Her actual purpose for visiting Han Wen was to propose replacing Louis with Huo Sining for the Spring Festival Gala.

”I just heard this name from an assistant, realizing that this young girl is quite popular on Weibo. In fact, last year, many people wanted her on the Gala, but we had already scheduled Master Liu Qian, so we couldn’t respond. This year, netizens brought it up again and even created a hot topic for her, hoping our director team would notice her.”

As she spoke, Liu Chunying pulled out her tablet computer, swiped a few times, opened the mesmerizing video viewed by countless people, and handed it to Han Wen.

Han Wen skeptically took the tablet, initially holding a doubtful and critical attitude intending to glance casually, yet found herself increasingly surprised and intrigued. At the end, the host from the box went missing, only to turn into the prop dog Tibetan Mastiff, prompting Han Wen to exclaim: ”Oh, where is the person? Where did the host go?”

Upon seeing Han Wen’s reaction, Liu Chunying and Chen Yu exchanged a knowing look and smiled, seeming to confirm that letting Huo Sining perform magic at the Gala could be set in stone.

As expected, once Han Wen finished watching Huo Sining’s final transformation back into the host, she couldn’t help but take a deep breath and repeatedly praise:

”This show is incredible, even after watching it, it leaves you reminiscing. The design is really well done!”

Chen Yu nodded: ”Not just you; even I’ve watched it several times. Unfortunately, this was for a school welcome party, and the video equipment was outdated, hence the poor effect. If performed on the Gala stage using top lighting sound effects and multiple simultaneous HD recordings, the effect would definitely be stunning.”

This time Han Wen didn’t refute, clearly agreeing with Chen Yu’s viewpoint, yet she still looked at Chen Yu with an odd expression:

”This is your sister-in-law? Her appearance does look quite graceful, but she’s studying magic acts, and will frequently need to show herself in public. Doesn’t Master Gu mind his granddaughter-in-law being like this? Besides, you’re part of the Department of Cultural Promotion; will having a sister-in-law like this make your interactions with her awkward?”

Han Wen’s words were rather implicit, but Chen Yu instantly understood what she meant.

Just as Han Wen knew Chen Yu, Chen Yu also understood Han Wen’s personality since they shared a dorm for four years, knowing her true character very well.

Han Wen was direct and decisive, both in words and actions, flawless too, which was why she managed to elevate herself within the system—growing from a regular set assistant to Gala director in just ten years.

Nonetheless, regardless of Han Wen’s capability, Chen Yu was particularly annoyed with one of her weaknesses.

That was, Han Wen was somewhat snobbish. People naturally tend to avoid harm and seek profit, but to project one’s thoughts and assumptions onto others is quite off-putting.

Before, Chen Yu didn’t mind, but over the past few years, Han Wen settled into her position at CCTV, and this flaw became increasingly pronounced, developing into a bureaucratic habit, especially the personal bias reflected in her recent words—terms like ”publicly exposing oneself” sounded extremely unpleasant, upsetting Chen Yu.

”Magic performances don’t seem to relate much to publicly exposing oneself, do they? Besides, who told you my sister-in-law studies magic? You had that tendency to judge by appearance during school too, and I didn’t expect it to remain unchanged after all these years. I truly consider you a sister, so I recommended someone to you. If you look down on people this way, then fine, just pretend I never mentioned it, and find another suitable candidate yourself!”
