Reborn As Super Heiress

Chapter 1056: Chapter 1052: Gold! Gold!

Huo Sining used the Heavenly Eye to conduct a thorough search of the cargo hold. Upon reaching the third hold, the last one near the stern, she pushed the door open and saw dozens of large crates stacked or tilted inside.

These crates were locked, but they were already decaying. With a casual swipe of her hand, Huo Sining managed to peel off a corner from one of the crates, revealing a bright golden sheen inside.

Gold! It truly was gold!

Huo Sining’s eyes lit up immediately, realizing she had found the right place. It seemed that following Fujiwara Seiho this far would not result in a fruitless journey.

She quickly opened the crate, revealing neatly stacked hundreds of gold bars inside. Each bar was engraved with Huaxia traditional characters and patterns, indicating that these bars were likely plundered from Huaxia.

Huo Sining picked up one of the gold bars, estimating its weight to be about 3 kilograms.

Huo Sining speculated that each of these bars weighed approximately 3.125 kilograms, as the engravings and patterns on them suggested they were from the pre-Republic of China era. The weight unit used back then was the jin, different from today’s jin, with one ancient jin equaling sixteen liang, and one liang of gold equaling 31.25 grams today.

In ancient times, the largest denomination for gold was the ingot, equivalent to 100 liang or 3.125 kilograms. Therefore, Huo Sining guessed that although these gold bars weren’t cast in the shape of Gold Sycee, their weight should be equivalent to an ingot of gold.

Huo Sining roughly estimated that there were about 300 bars in this crate, which weighed nearly a ton. With dozens of such crates in the hold, it meant that, as rumored, the amount of gold totaled up to 40 tons.

With such a heavy load of gold stored in the stern cargo hold, no wonder the ship sank bow-first, embedding into the seabed mud, as the stern’s weight unbalanced the ship.

Even for someone like Huo Sining who had seen many precious things, her breath quickened, her blood surged, and she couldn’t help but feel exhilarated at the sight of this mountain of gold.

Now wasn’t the time to linger; she couldn’t afford to open every crate for inspection. After suppressing her excitement, she began to act, swiftly storing all the crates into her Storage Space, also sweeping up the scattered gold bars on the floor.

Only when the entire hold was emptied did she stop, satisfied, and began to head outside. As she retraced her steps, just as she poked her head out of the hole through which she entered, she saw several underwater explorers had successfully reached the shipwreck’s base.

The eight divers, upon approaching the wreck, were ready to enter through the hatch.

Corroded by time, the hatch structure was compromised. Being burly men, they found it easy to break open the rusty hatch with a jack, forcing it to pop open. Then, after discussing with hand signals, they decided to send six divers in to scout first, leaving two outside to stand watch and be ready to assist.

Salvaging a sunken ship seemed thrilling but is not simple. After sinking into the mud, the internal pathways might be damaged. Even after opening the entrance, entering wasn’t guaranteed to be straightforward.

With silt seeping in, murky water, algae growing inside, and potentially dangerous aquatic life, exploring the entire ship required significant time and effort.

As the crew entered the vessel, Huo Sining involuntarily felt a sense of foreboding, as if the explorers entering the sunken ship would encounter no good.

Finding it strange, Huo Sining didn’t expect that just four or five minutes after the crew entered the ship, the two divers left outside appeared to hear something on the walkie-talkie, their expressions turning anxious. Shouting into their underwater communicators, they moved the spotlight to the entrance, shining a beam continuously inside.

Uncertain of what the sonar relayed, the two divers appeared panicked, exchanged glances, nodded, and one swam to the hatch, entering the wreck, seemingly to check on things and assist their companions.

Underwater salvage operations have protocols: while salvaging and exploring a wreck, someone must remain outside as the lookout. Unless something very difficult arises, the lookout must not leave their post.

The remaining lookout outside grew increasingly restless, speaking into the walkie-talkie, but a few minutes later, the diver who entered later also fell silent.

The ocean depths are mysterious and unpredictable, with countless treasures waiting to be excavated, yet this realm harbors immense dangers. Huo Sining found it puzzling; she didn’t know what occurred inside the cabin, but observing the tension and panic of the two divers outside, she guessed something unexpected happened inside.

The sea was silent, the divers seemingly vanished. If the diver outside hadn’t remained, Huo Sining might have thought it was an illusion.

Seeing the later diver not emerge, Huo Sining’s curiosity grew too intense to ignore. She slipped out of the ship and stealthily peered through the wide-open hatch.

With her invisibility, Huo Sining moved underwater without a trace. The anxious lookout was focused on urgently reporting the situation to those ashore, unaware of another entering the cabin.

Swiftly navigating the ship, Huo Sining soon detected a strong scent of blood, distinct from the salty sea smell. Alarmed, she picked up her pace.

Turning a corner, Huo Sining was startled by a terrifying scene not far ahead.
