Reborn As Super Heiress

Chapter 1089: Chapter 1085: Scam Call?

Regarding Song Chaoying’s jade mining investment proposal, Huo Sining was indeed somewhat tempted. However, according to Song Chaoying, this matter would likely require the Song Group to take the lead, which made Huo Sining feel a bit uneasy since it was the Song Family’s connections in Myanmar, and she couldn’t just direct them as she pleased.

So after listening to Song Chaoying’s suggestions, Huo Sining only said she’d consider it and didn’t rush to express her opinion.

”By the way, I remember hearing in October that there’s been fighting again in Myanmar. The Myanmar Government also controlled all the exports of jadeite raw stones, and even last October’s Yangon Public Plate was canceled at the last minute. I wonder what’s going on now?”

Huo Sining suddenly remembered that when she was heading to Dongyang as an exchange student, she learned about the civil war in Myanmar from Zhong Zifan. It’s been three to four months now, and she doesn’t know what the situation in Myanmar is like now.

Song Chaoying wasn’t very informed about this, but Ouyang Jun, sitting nearby, was very interested and chimed in directly, ”Speaking of which, it’s because of that civil war over there that we got hold of a batch of tungsten ore, but the export was restricted. It took us more than half a month to finally get it out.”

”The impact on us was relatively small. Those jadeite raw stone traders are the ones truly unlucky. Many of them ran out of stock and wanted to get a batch of raw materials over, but it’s completely impossible. All export of raw materials has been strictly controlled. It’s said that in the future, all these raw materials will need to go through the Yangon Public Plate.”

Upon hearing this, Huo Sining was somewhat surprised. She originally thought that what Zhong Zifan said was exaggerated, but she didn’t expect it to be true.

”Will there still be a Yangon jade stone public plate this year?”

What Huo Sining was really concerned about wasn’t who held the power in the Myanmar Government, but whether there would be a fundamental change in the export of Myanmar jade stone in foreign trade. If it’s truly as both Zhong Zifan and Ouyang Jun said, then for a long time to come, the domestic jade stone market might see a significant rise in the price of raw materials. If that’s the case, she might have to plan early to go to Myanmar to stockpile jade raw material.

While they were chatting, Huo Sining’s phone suddenly rang. It was a 010 number from the Imperial Capital. Huo Sining thought it might be Gu Xu or someone from the Huang Family calling her, so she answered it without much thought. Unexpectedly, when the call connected, a deep voice on the other end asked, ”Is this Miss Huo Sining?”

This voice was completely unfamiliar to her, making Huo Sining pause and instinctively reply, ”Who is this?”

”Hello, Miss Huo. My name is Liu Chunying. I’m from the CCTV Spring Festival Gala director team. After a mutual decision, our program team is sincerely inviting you...”

Before the caller could finish, Huo Sining’s forehead started to break out in black lines, and she replied, ”Are you about to say that I’ve won a raffle ticket from your program group, granting me a ticket to the Spring Festival Gala, along with tens of thousands of yuan, a laptop, and a mobile phone? And if I wish to claim the prize, I first have to send you 5000 yuan? Sorry, you’ve got the wrong person!”

This type of scam wasn’t new to Huo Sining. Just this year, she had received numerous fraud messages saying she had won laptops, mobile phones, or cars, or claiming that her son had been kidnapped and that a leader was caught soliciting prostitutes. Various bizarre scam methods were emerging one after another.

So upon hearing the person on the phone mentioning that they were from the Spring Festival Gala director group, her first thought was that it was a scam. How could the Spring Festival Gala possibly involve her? This was ridiculous, wasn’t it?

However, after hanging up the phone, Huo Sining felt a bit strange. A thought flashed through her mind, and she suddenly raised her head to look at Ouyang Jun, ”Who’s the director of this year’s CCTV Spring Festival Gala?”

Ouyang Jun was taken aback, unsure why Huo Sining suddenly asked such an out-of-place question, ”Who else could it be? It’s that leading female director. Isn’t it her every year? Why are you suddenly interested in the Spring Festival Gala? Want to go see it live? It’s no fun, you might as well stay home. I heard that you and Xu Zi both moved to a new home. Aren’t you planning to have a housewarming this year? Huizi, Qintian, and I plan to come and join the fun!”

Rolling her eyes at Ouyang Jun, Huo Sining quipped, ”What nonsense are you spouting? We haven’t even gotten married yet. What new home are you talking about?”

Ouyang Jun, undeterred, laughed, ”Isn’t that bound to happen sooner or later?”

Huo Sining didn’t respond further. However, she couldn’t help but think that the person who called claiming to be Liu Chunying, was likely using a pseudonym. Using the guise of the Spring Festival Gala to carry out fraud - such scams were becoming more rampant in recent years. These scammers typically used fake base stations to modify their numbers, leading the targets to lower their guard and letting the scamsters achieve their aims.

Meanwhile, on the other end, Liu Chunying, who just got hung up on, was a bit bewildered and a tad frustrated as she listened to the busy tone emanating from the phone.

At this moment, she was unaware that she had already been misconstrued as a telecom scammer.

Earlier, entering the TV station in the morning, Liu Chunying had once again reviewed the Spring Festival Gala programs she was in charge of. Just when she was about to make confirmation calls one by one, she suddenly received an urgent call from someone on the other end, who was crying.

”Director Liu, I’m An Jie, Louis’s manager. Louis just met with a car accident. He’s seriously injured and currently undergoing emergency treatment in the hospital. He might not be able to participate in this year’s Spring Festival Gala. I’m really sorry. There’s only one rehearsal left, and now this has happened. On behalf of Louis, I apologize to you.”

Upon hearing this bad news, despite feeling displeased, Liu Chunying couldn’t possibly respond harshly to An Jie. Given someone was being resuscitated in the hospital, she couldn’t kick someone while they were down. So, she comforted, ”It’s okay. I’ll figure something out to find a replacement. You just let Louis focus on recuperation!”

Though her words were reassuring, after hanging up, Liu Chunying found herself somewhat overwhelmed.

Louis was supposed to perform magic for the Gala. Close-up magic on the Spring Festival Gala required nimble fingers, quick reflexes, and composure. The live performance had to be flawless because the Gala was broadcasted live, not only to twelve billion Huaxia people but also to overseas expatriates worldwide. Any mistakes wouldn’t just humiliate the magician but also the entire Spring Festival Gala director team and the Huaxia Nation.

Therefore, when choosing a magician, Liu Chunying was extremely cautious. After nearly a month of selection, Louis was chosen. Fortunately, Louis was impressive during previous rehearsals, receiving much praise from the chief director.
