My Alleged Husband

Chapter 2150: Chapter 1983: Don’t Understand

Some people whom you thought you understood, you later realize you didn’t know at all. You don’t know what his deepest thoughts are?

Xia Jing never expected her son to say such harsh words to her. Had she really made a mistake? Was it wrong for her, as a mother, to love her son? Why couldn’t she earn a good word from her son?

”Why is it that after I’ve done so much, he never realizes for whom I’m doing it? In his eyes, am I such an unworthy mother? Why does he blame all the mistakes on me?” Xia Jing talked to herself, thinking no one would hear her, but she didn’t realize her husband, Zhang Zhentian, was standing behind her.

”Now you understand the feeling of doing so much yet not receiving a kind word, right? He is your son. He hopes so much that his relationship with his lover can be recognized as important in his mother’s eyes, but what about you? How did you handle it? You relentlessly pushed his girlfriend to a dead end. How do you expect him to accept you as a mother? You think this is love for him, but in his eyes, it’s only hurt that never ceases. Considering our son’s proud nature, do you think he would accept us as his parents? When I reflect on our actions, it’s hard to believe we did such things. Now I finally understand that people lose their rationality when they’re impulsive!”

”What right do you have to accuse me now? Didn’t you support me when we did those things? If it weren’t for your supportive attitude, how could I have done such impulsive things? I admit I lost my mind in that situation; my hatred blinded me because I hated that girl. If it weren’t for her, why would our son choose not to recognize me as his mother time and again? I placed all the blame on her, until that moment in the hospital when she pleaded for me, choosing not to pursue my legal responsibility for harming her. At that moment, I admit, I wanted to accept her as my daughter-in-law, but it wasn’t until today I realized I was just fooling myself. She appeared to forgive me but stabbed me in the back. You know I, Xia Jing, can’t stand backstabbing. If you’re unhappy, say it to my face. Send me to prison, give me the punishment I deserve, but don’t plot against me behind my back. I can’t tolerate that.” Xia Jing expressed her displeasure, feeling all blame was pinned on her, despite Zhang Zhentian’s involvement.

”Can’t you ever calm down and think properly? Consider the harm you’re doing to your family with your actions. Yes, she’s a commoner now, but how can you be sure she will remain a commoner in ten or twenty years? Who told you that a commoner can’t enter high society? You should understand that in the circles of high society, many stand by scheming. Everyone thinks about how to outwit others to maximize their interests and defeat opponents. That’s calculating. But a commoner’s daughter isn’t the same. She uses her own hands, her own efforts, to enter high society. Isn’t such a girl worthy of respect? Doesn’t she deserve a perfect love?”

”I believe I’ve made myself clear. I’m not looking down on her as a commoner’s daughter. In fact, I’m nearly ready to accept her. But why, just as I’m about to accept her, do the rumors begin? Don’t you think it’s suspicious? If she hadn’t stabbed me in the back, I’d accept her as a daughter-in-law, but now that she’s speaking ill of me and stabbing me from behind, I cannot accept her. Why should a person with such flawed character enter the Zhang Family’s doors? Why should she be with my son? My son is an economic emperor, and she, a commoner?”

”You still think our son, the economic emperor, is unmatched by a commoner’s daughter. Why can’t you understand that our son needs a commoner’s daughter? Perhaps you think a commoner’s daughter brings no benefits. However, to our son, she is more than a benefit; she’s his beloved woman. Just like how I was willing to defy my father to be with you. My father raised me for over twenty years, and I went against him for you. How do you think I should love you?”

Xia Jing was somewhat angry: ”What do you mean? Do you need a reason to love me? Shouldn’t you love me? If you didn’t love me, why are you with me? Are you like your father, agreeing only because I saved his company? Is that what’s in your heart?”

Zhang Zhentian didn’t expect Xia Jing to react so intensely. He found it hard to accept since he was already upset. He didn’t know how to resolve the issue at hand; why couldn’t his wife understand or sympathize with him? She continuously tested his limits until he finally exploded.

”What do you mean? Let me make it clear to you today. If I didn’t love you, I wouldn’t have chosen to be with you, wouldn’t have opposed my father. I’m with you not because you saved my father’s company but because I love you. Didn’t I choose to be with you before my father approved because you saved his company? It seems not, right? Have a conscience and stop thinking everyone is stabbing you in the back. You haven’t investigated this clearly, so don’t sully someone’s name. You know how important personal reputation is to others. She is a commoner’s daughter now; I have nothing to say if you slander her. But if she someday really becomes your daughter-in-law, how will you face her? Living under the same roof, how will you get along? Will you still think all mistakes are hers? She is actually a kind-hearted girl wanting very little. She only desires a marriage and happiness, isn’t that simple? Isn’t it every woman’s desire? You could choose to have it, why can’t she?”

”I am me, she is she. My pursuit of happiness is my right, unrelated to her. She is not me, and I am not her, so don’t confuse us.”

”Let me clarify this with you today, too. From now on, I will no longer be involved in any matters between you. But I hope you remember this: if such things happen again, don’t push any responsibility onto me because I don’t know and I don’t want to know...”

Xia Jing never imagined that they, a couple who rarely fought, would have such a heated argument over an unrelated outsider.

All of it was what she had worked so hard to achieve!
