My Alleged Husband

Chapter 2146: Chapter 1979: Keep Going, Don’t Give Up

Some things can’t be clung to just because they bring you happiness, many things can’t be given up just because of a single ”sorry” from you!

Time ticked away second by second. Xia Jing kept waiting there, waiting and waiting, for Old Master Zhang’s response, which never came. She had a bad premonition in her heart. Could it be that the persuasion failed? Or was her husband’s attitude too resolute, leaving her father-in-law helpless?

In the blink of an eye, two days passed. For these two days, Zhang Zhentian sat alone on the sofa, lost in thought, contemplating how to make a decision. On one hand was his marriage, and on the other, his guilt towards his father and his son. He didn’t know how he should choose. If he chose one side, what kind of blow or harm would it be to the other side? He didn’t want his loved ones to suffer any more harm.

He could choose never to step into the Zhang family’s door again, choose to never disturb the life of himself and his son, choose to leave here forever. But he couldn’t accept that his wife would hurt his son, hurt his father, and hurt himself like this.

In the end, he still made a decision. He must divorce Xia Jing. He felt that as long as he stayed with Xia Jing, this family would never have peace. As long as they continued to live together, the ones who would be hurt would only be his father, his son, and his future daughter-in-law. He didn’t want his family to suffer even a bit more harm. The blows and the void of love over the past decade could not be mended, and he could not let such groundless harm continue to occur.

Today marked the third day Xia Jing waited at home, and she finally received a call from her husband, but the result left her disappointed.

”Hello, Zhentian, have you thought it through? Are you not going to bring up divorce with me anymore? Rest assured, as long as you continue to live with me and never mention divorce again, I will never trouble our son again, nor will I trouble that girl. I won’t let them end up together and stay with each other forever, as long as you don’t divorce me...”

”Are you negotiating terms with me?”

Xia Jing couldn’t understand why her husband’s opening words were so cold. Could it be that her father’s persuasion really failed?

”Zhentian, what’s wrong? Are you not feeling well? Why are you speaking so strangely today? You never spoke to me so coldly before!”

”Really? Then tell me, how did I talk to you before? I remember my attitude towards you was always the same. Was there anything different?” Zhang Zhentian asked Xia Jing in return.

Xia Jing was at a loss, not knowing how to answer this question.

”Why aren’t you speaking? Aren’t you usually fluent? Why can’t you speak today? Could it be that you did something that lets me down?”

Xia Jing hadn’t expected Zhang Zhentian to become so aggressive in his words. Could it be that she drove him to this point with this incident? She hadn’t done anything so outrageous, so why did this matter seem so severe in his eyes? Besides wanting a divorce over this, he also spoke to her coldly and aggressively.

”Zhentian, what’s wrong with you? Why are you speaking so strangely today? You never used to be aggressive when speaking to me before, but today every word you say is aggressive. What sort of situation could make you treat me like this? Can we really not go back to the way we were?”

”Go back to the past? It’s easy for you to say. Think about it. Words spoken are like water spilled—can they ever be taken back? Your lies, one after another, are really unacceptable to me. If you had chosen to confess to me voluntarily instead of letting me find out those lies, I might have continued to forgive you. But you never chose to confess, and I found out your lies, yet I didn’t want to expose them because I didn’t want to tear off the façade you wore. I think, once the mask you wear is torn off, it would be truly unbearable!”

”Everyone makes mistakes. You know, there’s a saying: ’To err is human.’ Are you going to treat me like this just because of such a small mistake? Do I really hold no place in your heart? Or have you already found a lover outside, and are eager to bring her home, so eager to divorce me?” Xia Jing was so angry with Zhang Zhentian that she spoke without thinking. She didn’t know what she should do to salvage this hard-won marriage. All of this was caused by her, and now she really knew she was wrong. But Zhang Zhentian had no intention of giving Xia Jing any chance to redeem herself.

”Even now, you’re still wrongly accusing me. Do you really need me to spell out every lie you’ve told before? There are so many things you should be clear about yourself. Not to mention the severity of the lies you told me, let’s talk about our son. How could you bear, when facing a girl in her prime, to push her down a cliff with your own hands? Do you know our son was hurt so deeply he attempted to jump to his death for love? Do you still not understand how much he loved that girl? You threatened that girl with her parents. When you saw our son, did you not see the pain on his face? Yet you didn’t hesitate to continue hurting them, tearing them apart. Is this what a parent should do? Everyone says maternal love is greater than paternal love, but in my view, your maternal love is something not even our son can bear, nor can I. Your love is one betrayal after another, your love is one harm after another. You have never considered us, your family, have you? Doesn’t our son need the company of his parents? And what about your husband’s need for sincere treatment from his wife? What about your father-in-law’s need for a little filial gratitude from his daughter-in-law? You haven’t done any of these!”

”Are you saying I wasn’t sincere enough towards you? After more than a dozen years of marriage, have you not felt my sincerity towards you?” Xia Jing was unwilling to be labeled as insincere by her husband.

Zhang Zhentian found it truly laughable. Even now, his wife showed no sign of remorse, still arguing nonsensically with him.

”Ask yourself, in all this time, have you ever been truly honest with me even once? Can you say there’s nothing you’ve hidden from me? Can you say you’ve told me everything entirely?

In fact, I know everything you’ve done, but I chose not to say anything. I didn’t want to hurt the feelings in our marriage. We went through so much before finally coming together. I gave up so much for you. But what about you? This time, I’m being very clear with you: no matter who you find to try and persuade me, it’s pointless. Pleas are useless. Accept my divorce agreement. Only then can you still get a bit of alimony from me, and you can go pursue the freedom you hope for with dignity. Otherwise, don’t blame me for taking you to court, ignoring our marital bond. At that time, you won’t just face legal responsibility; you could also go to jail for intentional harm...”

Zhang Zhentian hung up the phone directly. Xia Jing didn’t expect that this time, her husband would be so ruthless to her, actually intending to take her to court and even threatening her with a charge of intentional harm.

Holding on tightly and not letting go is what I want most in this life!
