My Alleged Husband

Chapter 2126: Chapter 1959: Desolation

If fate had brought us together like a breeze meeting water, yet cruelly it altered our destinies.

Xia Jing drove Zhang Zhentian out of the house with her lies, but instead of seeing her fault, she thought Zhang Zhentian was being petty.

When Zhang Zhentian walked out of his own house, he kept reflecting on himself. Was it really worth it to do so much for Xia Jing? Looking back, he did so many things against his father to be with Xia Jing, made so many unfavorable decisions, all for her, he was willing to give up everything to be with her. But what was the result in the end? Lies, again and again? If that was true, then why force her to stay by his side, making neither of them happy? Was this truly the result he wanted? For Xia Jing, he gave up all the inheritance he could have received, gave up his right to succeed the family estate. But what was the outcome? Xia Jing showed no gratitude, instead, she hurt him time and again, treated their marriage like a test, doing so many unconscionable things to test each other. Yet he endured it all, simply because he didn’t want her to leave his side. Because in Zhang Zhentian’s heart, as long as he could see his wife every day, he was content. He didn’t care what harm she did to him, or what mistakes she made, he only cared if the woman he loved most was by his side every day.

”Should I really let go of all this? Was everything I did before all for nothing?” Zhang Zhentian said to himself.

He thought for a long time outside, but eventually chose to return home, not to reconcile with Xia Jing, nor to show weakness to her, but to make a major decision—he wanted a divorce from Xia Jing!

He believed he had given up so much for the woman he loved without any reward, not even a sincere word of thanks for everything he did, and he didn’t want to continue living a life worse than death. He originally thought, as long as he could see his beloved by his side, he could give up everything, but now he realized, that was impossible.

Xia Jing saw Zhang Zhentian return home and thought he realized his mistake, that he shouldn’t have forced her to tell him the whole truth. She assumed Zhang Zhentian came back to apologize, but little did she know, her husband came back not to apologize, but to break up with her forever!

”What’s this? After being out so long, you finally decided to come back. Have you realized your mistake, that you shouldn’t have forced me to tell you everything? You’re back to apologize?” Xia Jing thought Zhang Zhentian came back to apologize and pretended to be somewhat reluctant, speaking to her husband.

Zhang Zhentian didn’t expect Xia Jing to perceive this as his mistake, even though it was clearly hers. Her attitude only confirmed his decision.

”Oh, why should I apologize to you? Did I do something wrong?” Zhang Zhentian asked Xia Jing.

”You know you were wrong, just say you’re here to apologize, why beat around the bush? If you just admit it, I won’t laugh at you. Wrong is wrong, what’s there to be embarrassed about saying it out loud? You just think you shouldn’t have forced me to reveal the truth and harmed our relationship, right? It’s all in the past, I won’t blame you. As long as you apologize, we can still live happily afterward, isn’t that worthwhile?”

Zhang Zhentian couldn’t believe this was coming from the woman he loved most. Why should all the blame rest on him? Hasn’t he taken enough responsibility for her? Why should this mistake be pushed onto him? Can’t she see it’s her mistake?

”Sorry, I didn’t come back to apologize. I have something very important to tell you!”

”Just say it directly, don’t stutter here, if you’re a real man, just say it directly, no need for indirectness!”

”Since you put it like that, I won’t be polite, I’ll get to the point. I think we’re no longer fit to continue living together...” Zhang Zhentian finally said what he had been thinking, awaiting Xia Jing’s response.

Xia Jing heard her husband say this and thought Zhang Zhentian was joking. She believed Zhang Zhentian couldn’t leave her no matter what, how could he say something about divorce?

”Are you joking with me? We’ve been married for over a decade, everyone knows you’re a man who can’t leave me, Xia Jing. Are you saying this to prove something? To prove you can leave me, or is there another motive?”

”You’re right, we’ve been married over a decade, everyone knows I’m a man who can’t leave Xia Jing, but is it because of this that you think I couldn’t live without you? We’ve faced life’s storms and hardships, we endured it all, but today, I simply can’t continue living with you. Your actions this time truly chilled my heart. Lies upon lies I cannot accept. I used to brush off your lies as if they never happened, but not this time. You disregarded your own health to deceive your family, why should I cling to you, depriving you of freedom? Maybe what you truly want isn’t me, but the freedom you desire. If you long for freedom, I’ll give you freedom. Go pursue your freedom, and live your life in freedom. You can even find a man willing to pursue freedom with you, I have no objection, as long as we’re completely divorced, each other’s personal matters are unrelated, isn’t that a happy ending?”

”You must have a woman out there and want to get rid of me so you can bring her home. Don’t delude yourself. I will never allow you to bring that mistress home. Even if I die, I will die as Mrs. Zhang Zhentian, and it will be engraved on my tombstone. I will never let you rid yourself of me. Don’t waste your efforts trying to get rid of me because it won’t work. I am determined to be with you for life!”

When good and evil sway, what fear is there in the world? The end brings nothing but a phrase: the fault isn’t yours!
