My Alleged Husband

Chapter 2123: Chapter 1956: Life After Life

If wishing upon a shooting star could really come true, how wonderful it would be; I wouldn’t have to live so painfully.

Old Master Zhang knows that this matter has now become a foregone conclusion. No matter what he says, it can’t be changed. Since things have reached this point, wouldn’t it be better to let the young people handle their own affairs?

But whenever he thinks of his son’s disappointed look, his heart aches. It’s his own flesh and blood; no matter how grave his mistakes are, as a father, he can’t abandon him. How could he not intervene in his son’s marriage? If that were the case, how could his son live happily?

At the same time, he understands how difficult it is to change his daughter-in-law’s decision. Every word she once said was never swayed by anyone to change her mind.

However, when he recalls his once imperious daughter-in-law, who had once put aside all her attitudes and principles for a small story for his son, she transformed him completely. But now, there will be no such changes; it’s already destined, the conclusion will only be like this. The fate of these matters will only make things worse. No one ever thought about what truly made this couple turn out this way. It’s always assumed the mistakes are all on her side, never considering if her husband was at fault or where his son went wrong.

”Children, once you were affectionate, but I know this love has drifted away with the harm he caused you, never to return. But I hope you understand one thing: once you make a firm decision, it may leave you wounded at crucial moments.

I understand what kind of person you are inside; you can go to any lengths for the one you love, and easily walk away for the one you don’t. Your carefree nature means nothing ever holds you here. But because of my son, he has become an obstacle in your life’s journey. He never imagined he would one day obstruct your path forward. Do you understand? Inside, he truly has strength; he truly considers you the dearest to him...”

”Dad, no matter if he sees me as his dearest, there are things I have to clarify. Just because he loves me, does it give him the right to hurt me arbitrarily? If his heart truly loves me, how could he not realize what damage this would do to me? He never considered my heart might feel unbearable pain because of this. He’s never considered this, so why claim he loves me? Is this what he calls love?

I once said, if his love for me ever deteriorates, then I have no way to continue living with him. These words you probably never heard, but I’ve long since said them. Just like now, his love for me is no longer as it was, turning into this mess. Why cling to stay by his side, only seeking suffering for myself?

Everyone knows how deeply I loved her, to what lengths I could go for her. But her—just a few words not aligning and she wants to abandon me, treat me with indifference. Is this what a real man should do, abandon his wife without a second thought? If he truly has me, his wife, in his heart, then what is left that he cannot forsake?

I can forgive him repeatedly for what he has done to me, pretend his harm never happened. But why should I do so just because he once said he loved me? Did he ever make solemn vows to me, fulfill any promises? Why should I be so good to her? No matter how good I am, in his eyes, I’m just a useless person! During the time he abandoned me, I sobbed every night, crying myself to breathlessness under the covers with no one to comfort me. Who can understand that feeling? He never experienced the agony of losing someone, the pain of losing the person one loves most is like tearing one’s heart apart. He has never felt such pain, so he can’t understand how distressed I am inside. Given this, I’ll make him truly feel, let him understand that if a relationship is abandoned so easily, it should no longer be called a relationship. If a relationship can be dismissed lightly, then don’t speak of love for a person; such love doesn’t deserve to be spoken.

Love is not still holding onto those vows, not promises, it’s every word you say, whether you fulfill them for me, whether you truly have me in your heart, treating me as part of your family. This is love; this is what a marital relationship should be—facing everything together, always trusting each other, never doubting the other. This is what true marriage means. Since she cannot achieve even a bit of it, why should they be with me? Keeping me in misery for a lifetime, is that truly how they resent me? If he detests me, I hope he can express it clearly, not use these little tricks to harm me. I’m no Saint, I can’t endure repeated harm from him; my heart truly hurts!

I really don’t want to continue with these things now; I’ve had enough, tired of being sought out again and again, tired of the endless harassment. In the end, all he wants is a way out for himself, but after hurting me, he shouldn’t seek to please me anymore; it’s all futile. I won’t turn back, no path leads me back, no decision made will change because of anyone. And for her, sacrificing my principles time and again, he doesn’t deserve it; he’s not worth it...”

Old Master Zhang watches Xia Jing weeping like rain; he knows this truly harms her heart. Clearly in such pain, she strives to hold back her tears. How much strength does it take to accomplish that?

A man who can make a woman cry so hard she’s short of breath only proves he’s hurt her so deeply. Yet this foolish woman still loves him so profoundly, so madly, that even she can’t protect herself.

I was once a proud person too, but now I can only watch as those I want to guard leave me repeatedly!
