My Alleged Husband

Chapter 2144: Chapter 1977: Seems So

I love you, even if in the end it leads to a broken heart. But as far as I’m concerned, I still love you, because I’ve never known what it means to give up everything!

Zhang Zhentian found that no matter how he tried to talk to his wife, he couldn’t make her understand. He realized that educating his wife on ideology was no longer effective, and he must now think of other ways to convince her to agree to let their son be with this girl. He couldn’t bear to separate them himself, as he believed people in love together could live a happy life. It’s better to seek the partner for life by one’s own choice; a marriage without love won’t be happy.

Old Master Zhang no longer wanted to intervene in this matter. He turned and went into the ward to see the granddaughter-in-law he had accepted in his heart. He saw Ran Zhihan lying on the bed, her cute face completely devoid of vitality, pale and lifeless, just like a withered flower, losing all its former spirit. He knew all this was caused by his family, and he felt deeply guilty. He had never felt he owed anyone before, but today he saw how much he owed this girl. If he had been stronger, maybe his son and daughter-in-law wouldn’t have hurt her, maybe today’s scene wouldn’t have happened? Perhaps she wouldn’t be lying here, unable to move, still in a coma.

Xia Jing and Zhang Zhentian, along with Zhang Yichen, started their argument upon seeing Old Master Zhang enter the hospital.

”Zhang Zhentian, maybe in your heart you think I’m the one who’s wrong, but have you forgotten? When I did this, you were also involved, you supported me, saying you would unconditionally support me no matter what, but now that our son recognizes you, you can just abandon me like this? Is this how one kicks someone when they’re down? Do you know what you’re doing really makes me look down on you? You did it, so why make me bear the consequences alone? You were involved, so why can’t you admit it boldly? You want me to bear all the faults alone; it makes me feel you’re simply a coward, unable to protect your own wife. You say you misjudged me, but didn’t I misjudge you too? In my heart, you were always someone with a sense of responsibility, but now you don’t seem to have one. Instead, your once brilliant image in my heart has fallen dramatically. I always thought you would give your all for me, and accept me entirely, but now I realize it’s all wrong. No, I thought wrong; trusting you too much led to this situation. If when I moved out of the Zhang Family, you hadn’t said those things, or asked me to act against her, I wouldn’t be in this predicament now. Your son is also here, do you still dare not admit?”

Zhang Yichen realized, upon hearing his mother say these things, that the matter was really not as simple as he thought. His father was actually involved. He had difficulty accepting why his father played the role of a loving father in front but a murderer behind the scenes. Doesn’t he feel exhausted? Playing two roles is really tiring, he knew that feeling.

Zhang Zhentian knew that when Xia Jing spoke those words, his relationship with his son would become distant. He turned to look at his son, and when he saw him, Zhang Yichen was still glaring, not expecting his father to be involved in this matter.

Zhang Zhentian wanted to explain but found himself unable to say anything. Could he really, right in front of his son, utter words against his heart saying he wasn’t involved? But who would believe such words? Everyone knew that even if Xia Jing acted alone, Zhang Zhentian would at least be involved. If he kept denying, would he fall even further in Zhang Zhentian’s heart?

Zhang Zhentian hadn’t even had a chance to open his mouth when Zhang Yichen spoke again to his father: ”My dear father, please tell me what’s going on? I hope you can truthfully tell me whether you were involved or not. Don’t let me catch you lying to me because the result will be even more tragic. If you don’t want anything to change again, please be honest with me!”

Zhang Zhentian knew that this time he couldn’t escape. He opened his mouth, unsure where to start, but eventually admitted his mistake.

”Son, I’m sorry, this is dad’s mistake. Dad admits I was involved, but I never intended for it to turn out this way. Can you forgive dad? You have to believe dad loves you dearly, always treating you as his most precious son. Can you understand dad’s painstaking efforts?”

Listening to others was one thing, but hearing the person involved admit it was another. When he heard his father confess, he couldn’t even stand steadily, nearly falling to the ground. His eyes, which had been wide open, didn’t close, struggling to believe. Why would a father playing the role of a loving father suddenly reveal such an ugly face?

”Don’t call me son, I don’t want a father like you. Haven’t you seen what kind of person my girlfriend is after all this time? She’s so kind and considers you as her own parents, but what do you think of her? If she stays with me, she will be your daughter-in-law, can’t you see her as your daughter-in-law? Or do you think having her means you’ll lose me completely? You’ve never understood what I truly want in my heart or how I feel. I’ve always thought if there’s a day we could truly be together, marry her, I wouldn’t care how you treated me before or what harm you caused, because that moment would be enough for me. But today, you’ve shattered all my fantasies. How can you be so heartless? Even if I can’t be with her, she has her own parents who would be heartbroken over her disappearance. Do you wish to see me vanish from this world too? Is that what you want?”

Slap...

A slap resounded. Zhang Zhentian watched his hand still in the air, simultaneously seeing his son with half of his face turning red. He couldn’t believe he had actually struck his son. He wanted to apologize, but would his son give him that chance?

”You don’t need to apologize. This slap has severed the bond between us as father and son. From today, we have no relationship. Also, please pack your things and move out of the Zhang Family immediately, or I will never return home again. If you don’t want to see Grandpa hurt again because of our relationship, quietly move out and don’t disturb the elder.”

Though you loved me, gave me, thought of me, it was just consolation.
