My Alleged Husband

Chapter 2107: Chapter 1940: Where There’s a Will, There’s a Way

Many things are not set in stone, not a single word unchangeable. Many things are earned through one’s efforts.

Zhang Yichen saw that his mother was unwilling to say another word to him. He knew that at this moment, anything he said would be wrong. The only thing he could do now was to choose silence, letting his mother think clearly by herself, to understand the consequences of doing this. What kind of harm would it bring? He believed that if his mother truly cared for him as her son, she would listen to him and stop.

Xia Jing sat there thinking for a while. Her heart was indeed quite conflicted. It’s not that she didn’t have a place in her heart for her son, but she didn’t know how to interact with her dear son. For over a decade, she hadn’t spent time with him and didn’t know what he truly needed or what was in his heart, let alone his character. She could only slowly probe using her own methods. She believed that as long as she was sincere, she would discover what her son needed, even if that day came very late. She was willing to wait for it because having that expectation made the days less unbearable.

An hour later, Old Master Zhang couldn’t hold back anymore and asked, ”Xia Jing, have you thought it through? If you listen to your son, let them go now, and we’ll go home together. But if you insist on following your choice, don’t blame anyone else in the future. You’ve come to understand your son’s nature. If this happens, do you think Yichen will forgive you? Do you think you won’t face legal consequences? If you really go through with it, you may achieve your goal, but is it worth it? You’ll not only lose your son and husband but also a lifetime of happiness for your family and your son’s happiness. Is it truly right?”

Upon hearing Old Master Zhang’s words, Xia Jing couldn’t help but reflect on whether it was worth it. Was it worth losing her father, husband, and son for someone irrelevant? Could one really face no regrets after losing so much for one person? She didn’t know how to resolve the situation perfectly. She just wanted her child to live a happy life. Why was it so hard?

”Dad, I know you’re saying this for my own good and for the family. But do you know? He’s already drowning in a whirlpool of love and can’t extricate himself. If I don’t do this, his life will be ruined by this girl. I don’t want the grandson you painstakingly nurtured, this emperor of world economics, to be destroyed by a woman. Would your heart be content?”

Truth be told, Xia Jing’s words struck a chord with Old Master Zhang. How could he be content? This was his carefully trained grandson, groomed to take over his company and stand firm in the world of economics. He couldn’t fathom his grandson losing his lifelong career over a woman. He didn’t want such a situation, but neither could he bear to see his grandson unhappy. Zhang Yichen mattered the most to him, more than Zhang Zhentian.

”You’re right. Honestly speaking, I’m not content. My carefully trained grandson, groomed as an economics emperor, how could I be content with him being ruined by a woman? But I’m different from you. You can selfishly abandon your child for your freedom, but I can’t. Even if I have to give up my company and a lifetime of work to exchange for my grandson’s happiness, I would. To me, as long as he’s happy, that’s all that matters. If he’s unhappy, I am too. In my eyes, his happiness is above all. You know that over the years, he’s worked hard because of a playful promise I made. If it weren’t for that, he wouldn’t have suffered so much. It’s all my fault. So if he wants to give up his company for a girl he loves, why not? I believe, with his abilities, even if he fails, he can rise again because he’s my grandson, indomitable like a god.”

Xia Jing didn’t expect her son to hold such an important place in Old Master Zhang’s heart. She remembered when the company was on the brink of collapse, how anxious Zhang Mo was. But now, for his grandson, he could abandon the company. She couldn’t understand what had transpired over the past decade or so. Why had Old Master Zhang changed so much? Was it really because times were changing and people too?

Just as they were about to continue arguing, Ran Zhihan arrived at the scene. As soon as she got out of the car, she saw her parents tied up, and her heart shattered. She rushed toward them in tears, but Xia Jing blocked her: ”You came just in time. Today, I will let you see with your own eyes how your parents disappear from this world. I warned you before that if I found you had any connection with my son again, I’d go after your parents. Since you don’t care about their lives, why should I show mercy? Remember, your parents’ death today was caused by your selfishness. You chose romance over your own parents’ lives...”

Zhang Yichen heard his mother say this, and he knew the situation had become critical. He could no longer hide in the shadows; he had to stand up against his mother. If he didn’t, and something happened, he and the girl he loved would be finished. He couldn’t let such a tragedy befall him. As he stood up to plead for the girl he loved, instead of gratitude, he was met with a slap from her. He didn’t understand where it came from, but Ran Zhihan’s words left him disheartened.

”Zhang Yichen, listen to me. I told you repeatedly before: it’s over between us. But your mother never believed me. So now, in front of your uncle, aunt, and grandpa, I solemnly tell you: it’s really over. We have no ties anymore. I won’t give up my parents’ lives for our love. It’s something I can’t do. Even if my parents abandoned me, I wouldn’t resent them, much less when they’ve sacrificed so much for me. How could I let them die because of my own romantic pursuits? I can’t do it. I’m not that selfish. So from today onwards, we sever all ties. No emotional debts, no relationship. I hope you won’t interfere in my life again.”

Hearing Ran Zhihan’s words, the hope Zhang Yichen harbored plummeted from heaven to hell!

Believe that where there’s a will, there’s a way. As long as you try, nothing is impossible to change!
