My Alleged Husband

Chapter 2149: Chapter 1982: An Everlasting Glance

Perhaps tears are a bit salty, or maybe a bit sweet. Looking back, the snow we stepped on slowly melted into a prairie.

Zhang Yichen was deeply angered by his father. He didn’t want to mature together with his father here because he felt it completely unnecessary. Since he had already made his decision, there would be no day of regret. Even if that day did come, he would never beg for mercy. However, he hadn’t expected that this day would arrive so quickly, catching him completely off guard.

Today, Zhang Yichen had successfully secured the cooperation deal in the United States. He was now preparing to book a flight back to the country. He felt that staying here any longer had no meaning, lest he continued to stay and let his father harass him daily, giving him no peace.

He carried his suitcase happily to the airport in the United States. When he arrived at the airport, just like last time, he encountered Ran Zhihan.

”Little sister, I’m so glad to see you here again today. Are you returning to the United States today?” Zhang Yichen smiled broadly. Seeing this girl made him exhilarated, even though she hadn’t had the chance to say anything yet.

”Yes, big brother, I’m returning to the United States today. Are you planning to go back to the country with your suitcase?”

”Yes, I’ve completely secured the cooperation deal in the United States; I’ll be returning to the country tomorrow. Staying in the United States doesn’t mean anything anymore; it’s better to return home and keep my grandfather company...”

Ran Zhihan listened to Zhang Yichen and thought: Such a pity, finally meeting the person I yearned for day and night, but he’s going back to the country. If I don’t make it back from the United States, can I still meet him in the country and spend more time together? Why does fate have to toy with me like this? Does it really find this amusing?

Zhang Yichen noticed that Ran Zhihan hadn’t spoken and thought: Why does fate have to toy with me like this? I finally met the girl I’ve been longing for, and yet now I have to go back. Why did she have to come to the United States from the country? And why did I have to choose today to return? If things were different, wouldn’t it be great? If I changed my mind and decided not to return to the country, would it make her think I have ulterior motives, making her look down on me? I couldn’t tell if this little sister stood still looking at me, thinking the same as I do, if her heart harbors the same feelings.

Zhang Yichen wanted to ask if he was in her heart, but he didn’t know how to ask. He felt that even if he did ask, it would only make things more awkward. Why not cherish this hard-won friendship? Even though neither had confessed, at least they both held each other in their hearts!

”I won’t say more. I still need to rush for my flight. If fate allows, we will meet again. You should go home and spend time with your grandfather, so he doesn’t worry about you. After all, when you get older, one tends to overthink!”

”Thank you, you’re truly an understanding and kind girl. Whoever is fortunate enough to marry you will be blessed for three lifetimes...”

”Until we meet again!”

After saying this, Zhang Yichen turned to leave. Ran Zhihan watched his retreating figure, desperately wanting to say, ”I don’t wish for anyone else to take me home. I don’t want to be with anyone else. I hope that one day you can take me home—I want to be your wife. But I don’t know if you feel the same way.”

Both had the same thoughts, both held each other in their hearts, yet they didn’t know how to express it. Maybe they needed to endure more trials for their feelings to strengthen, so no one could ever separate them.

When Zhang Yichen returned home, Old Master Zhang was delighted to see his grandson back. He hadn’t expected his grandson to return so quickly. He thought his grandson’s business trip would last ten days to half a month, but unexpectedly, he was back in just three short days. Old Master Zhang found it hard to believe this efficiency from his grandson.

”Grandpa, I’m back. How has your health been these past few days while I was away? Have you eaten on time? Slept on time? Have you missed your grandson?” Zhang Yichen asked with a smile.

”Of course, I missed you. You’re my cherished grandson. How could I not miss you? Don’t worry, I’ve been eating on time, sleeping on time, taking care of my health, all while waiting for you to come back!”

”Grandpa, I’m back now! Why do you still look worried? Cheer up! It’s been so long since I’ve seen you smile—it troubles me. It makes me feel I haven’t done well enough, causing my grandfather to lose his smile. Grandpa, would you really let your cherished grandson feel uneasy?”

”How could I bear it? Grandpa would rather endure all the unhappiness than let my precious grandson be unhappy. You know you’re my most beloved!”

”Grandpa, you’re the best to me!” Zhang Yichen embraced Old Master Zhang tightly.

”Alright, alright. As long as you’re back safe, that’s all that matters. You must be hungry. I’ll make you your favorite dishes. Just wait!” Old Master Zhang said, preparing to get busy.

”Grandpa, please wait. Don’t rush to make my favorite dishes. I want to ask, if I choose not to let my parents ever return home, what would you think? Would you miss them?”

Never had he thought his grandson would suddenly ask him this question. He didn’t know how to respond. He had always believed that if he could persuade his son a bit more, the matter could be easily resolved. But he hadn’t expected it to be so complicated this time. It seemed his grandson was determined not to let his son and daughter-in-law come home. Whether he spoke or not might make no difference; it was down to them to solve the issue. Saying too much might worsen things, deepening misunderstandings between them.

”Child, this is an issue between you and your father. As your grandfather, it’s not for me to say much. But as I’ve always said, think carefully before you act. Since you’ve made your decision, I won’t interfere much. As long as you won’t regret it in the future, that’s enough. Always consider your wife’s perspective. If you and your loved one marry, would your decision put her in a difficult position, between her in-laws and her husband? Many times, decisions can’t be controlled, but I still hope you stay calm and think before you act. Impulsiveness is the devil. Decisions made impulsively may not be reliable. Cherish everything you have because it doesn’t come easy, and don’t let it be easily ruined.”

No matter what fate or settings dictated about farewells, I would never agree to one with you.

We are both stubborn people, making life’s pathway a red carpet to witness the limits of our endurance!
