My Alleged Husband

Chapter 2116: Chapter 1949: Humble

Is it really necessary to be humble until the end in a relationship? Regardless of whether you want to or not, must you be humble into the dust?

Ran Zhihan looked at Zhang Yichen’s stunned expression, and she found it amusing. It turned out all of this was just her own wishful thinking. She had always believed that saying these things would get her the answer she wanted, but she didn’t expect to be disappointed in the end. She didn’t know what she should do or say to find a way that wouldn’t harm either of them, but this way was truly hard to find. She exhausted all her wits and still had no solution. Can fate really not be changed? Must we step forward according to destiny’s arrangement? No, she won’t live such a life. She wants to control her own life. Why should her fate be arranged by the heavens? Her path should be walked by herself, not paved by others to step on. Such a path not only doesn’t last long but also tires the heart. In that case, why not take up her own weapons and fight for herself?

”Since you can’t even respond to my question, let’s not contact each other anymore from today. For me, if you can’t promise me anything, what’s the point of being together? It’s no good for either of us; you’d better go home to your parents. Maybe only then you can live happily and peacefully, and my parents won’t be hurt by our relationship anymore. No matter when, the harm your mother caused me, I won’t forget. I chose to forgive because of you; I didn’t want to make things difficult between you and your mother—that wasn’t my intention. But the things your mother did really made it hard for me to forgive: repeated harm, repeated slander. What does she take me for? I’m a person too; I have a soul. What right does she have to harm me again and again? I’m not her biological child, can she be so indifferent to my life? Are my parents just commoners, so their lives can be treated carelessly? What do my parents count for in her eyes? What do I count for? In her eyes, she only values you, her son, and only knows how to make you happy. In her eyes, she only values you, her son, and knows how to bring you the greatest benefit so that your future is smooth. That’s her purpose. I’m just a commoner’s daughter, can’t give you anything, can’t help you at all, so in her eyes, I have no value. To her, anyone who has no value need not exist in her presence; it only occupies space and irritates her. That’s your parents. In their eyes, they always consider you, their son, more important than anything else. Our lives are not lives; in their eyes, only your life matters, your happiness matters, your benefit is their greatest goal...”

Zhang Yichen grabbed Ran Zhihan’s hand forcefully, saying to her, ”Zhihan, this isn’t how you think. Believe me, I have the ability to handle this. The whole world is mine; can’t I handle such a small matter of affection? Can you trust me a little more? You know how much I like you—ten years, how can ten years of affection be severed just like that? If you could truly abandon me, why don’t you dare to look me in the eye when you speak? Because you’re feeling guilty, right? I’m still in your heart, am I not? If that’s the case, why should we give up our love because of my parents?”

”Our love? You say it easily. After all these years together, don’t you know what kind of person I am? From the day I found you, from the day your parents came back to recognize you because of the news that we were together, how much injustice have I endured for you? All the bitterness I couldn’t express, only kept to myself. I didn’t want to make things difficult for you, so I chose not to tell you about the pain, no matter how much. But you, have you ever stopped your parents from harming me? This time it’s just a dagger; next time, will she bring gunpowder and bombs to deal with my parents? I can’t ensure that being with you won’t bring disaster to my parents again. Watching my parents suffer so much for me again and again makes me uneasy. Seeing my parents risking their lives for me time and again makes me feel guilty. But you’re different; maybe you think all this is natural. But everyone thinks differently, so there’s no need to dwell so much on these matters between us. As long as you feel happy, that’s enough!”

”You’re wrong; I’ve never thought it’s natural. I know all this is for us two, but now I truly understand. During the time with you, Auntie held a knife to my neck, forcing me to leave here—yet I didn’t. I chose to persist in studying here. My grades are good now, and I don’t want anything to affect my studies. For me, nothing is more important than my studies now. You should go home; lest your mother finds out you’re here and comes to pressure me again and hurt my parents. Neither of us wants to see that result again!” Zhang Yichen wanted to explain, but can such matters truly be resolved with a few words of explanation? Harm is not caused in a day or two but time and again. Xia Jing’s harm to Ran Zhihan: the first time was heartbreak, the second was disappointment, the third turned into despair. Since it’s already reached the point of despair, is there still any affection left? She doesn’t want to hear explanations from the man in front of her anymore. She thinks all explanations are unnecessary. Can the truth of already occurred events really be covered up with a few pleasing lies? Those wounds exist in her heart, can it really disappear with her sweet words?

”There’s nothing more to say between us now; I’m very tired, I want to go home and rest. Please don’t follow me around, okay? Go home and think about how to live the remaining days with your parents; being together really makes you happy. Why let an outsider like me disrupt your family? That would only deepen my sense of guilt. You should go back and persuade your mother not to chase me anymore in the future; it won’t bring any good outcomes for her. I can forgive one time after another, but it doesn’t mean I can ignore every harm she caused me. I hope you understand—people are flesh and blood and feel pain. Your mother’s repeated harm has already made me feel cold-hearted. No matter what you say this time, I won’t look back. You should go back; from today on, let’s not have any contact!”

Ran Zhihan said this, broke away from Zhang Yichen’s hands, and left without looking back!

So many separations and reunions, in the end, one person bore all the faults, allowing the other to live freely and turn away with ease...
