My Alleged Husband

Chapter 2139: Chapter 1972: Nothing More

”Yichen, actually, your mom and I never understood why you were willing to have us back in this home.”

After Xia Jing finished speaking to her son, she hung up the phone. She needs to pack up and prepare to leave here now. Xia Jing has already come to terms with it; she feels that after so many efforts, she has no face to stay here any longer. She doesn’t want to continue disrupting her father’s, her husband’s, and her son’s lives because her arrival has brought so many bad things, and her presence has caused so much trouble. She cannot make these things disappear, as this has become an unchangeable conclusion. Perhaps only by leaving can everything return to its original state, as if none of this had ever happened.

Zhang Yichen heard the phone be disconnected, and his anxiety grew increasingly strong. Is his mom really going to do something irreversible? The only thought in his mind was to quickly call his father and have him look for his mother. What’s done is done; he can’t let his mother experience any more incidents. Despite everything being related to his mom, he still couldn’t treat her like a stranger since half of his blood is from her!

Zhang Zhentian was still at home chatting idly with Old Master Zhang. Old Master Zhang wanted to once again confirm whether his son was truly resolute, knowing there’s no turning back.

”Zhentian, have you really thought it through? Must so many years of marital affection really end like this? Can you truly bear to let your wife leave you? All these years of ups and downs, you’ve walked together hand in hand through them. Without her in the future, will you still be happy?” Old Master Zhang asked Zhang Zhentian.

Zhang Zhentian let out a long sigh; he didn’t know how to answer his father. Regarding this matter, he was equally conflicted inside, unwilling to part but as a man of his word, having uttered the divorce, there was no turning back.

”Dad, regarding this matter, I really don’t want to offer any more explanations. My mind is made up—I must get divorced. We’ve committed so many mistakes, done so many heinous things, hurt so many people. You and my son have forgiven us, but inside we bear guilt. I can’t let us continue down a wrong path. You know, all these years, in my dreams, your and my son’s images often appear. Sometimes I wake up in fright from my sleep. I’m a bit scared—I fear heaven will repay my deeds because I abandoned my father and son. Whenever I think of these things, it brings unbearable pain to my heart. But I have no choice; I must keep walking the path I chose, step by step, because I always believed that once you choose a road, no matter how thorny, you must walk on without turning back, as no road waits for retracing. But now, I understand that many things aren’t impossible to backtrack; it’s about whether you choose to look back. Buddhism says, ’Good and evil have their recompense; the sea of bitterness has no bounds; turn back to the shore.’ Why find endless pain for oneself? Why not live happily with family? Dad, things I didn’t understand before, now I get it all. I can no longer selfishly abandon you and my son as I did before. I want to be by your side, dutifully cherish you, watch my son grow step by step. I can’t be absent in your lives anymore. The emotional gap of over a decade isn’t something that can be made up with a few days and nights; it requires companionship forever!”

Old Master Zhang didn’t expect his son’s realizations to be so profound this time, but he still felt the need to counter his son: ”Zhentian, actually, you’ve got it wrong again. You’re right; a decade-plus emotional gap indeed can’t be patched up with just a few days and nights. Even if you stay with us daily in the future, you still can’t make up for those missing years. The gap isn’t simply emotional but the crucial phase to build a bond with your son, and to honor me as your father. Yet, during this critical phase, you were absent. Do you think coming back now means resolving it all? All this time, it’s not that I opposed how you and your wife lived—but I hope both of you calm down first, and after cooling down, consider whether you really want a divorce. Because for you, this isn’t a small matter, for Zhang Corporation it’s not a small affair, and for your son, it’s even less trivial. Doing this places even greater pressure on your son. Are you truly heartless about this?”

Zhang Zhentian felt a bit swayed inside hearing his father speak this way. He couldn’t bear having his son hurt again because of him, nor did he want Zhang Corporation, established painstakingly by his father, to face disaster due to his marital unhappiness. He can’t let all this misfortune befall his father and son; he’d rather it befall him. But heaven is capricious—not only the wrongdoer suffers but his family too.

”Truth be told, hearing your advice, I’m indeed a bit swayed. I’m now unsure whether I really want to divorce my wife. You’re right; I understand this too. A decade of marital bonds isn’t something easily severed; a decade of marital affection isn’t easily discarded with a few words. Such companionship through thousands of days and nights, enduring so much together, hasn’t torn us apart. Yet, now because of one lie, I contemplate forsaking her. I’m unsure if what I’m doing is right or wrong.”

”Since you yourself are uncertain now about your feelings, you shouldn’t rush to decisions. You should calm down and consider it well—do you need to do this? What’s the aftermath of such actions? Can you assure yourself you won’t regret this later? If invited regret follows your actions, who will offer you the medicine for remorse? There’s no path to retrace!”

”Dad, I understand now, and I’m aware my actions are impulsive. Rest assured, I’ll ponder how to handle this properly. I’ll also ensure no harm comes to you and my son. I’m sorry for involving you in such big trouble, forcing you to handle these issues for us—I’m truly an unfilial son...”

”Son, regardless of what you do or how wrong you prove towards me, as a father, I’ll never blame my child. Do what you must—but think it through, don’t regret it years later...”

”Honestly, it’s just to leave no regrets!”

”Now I understand!”
