My Alleged Husband

Chapter 2119: Chapter 1952: Flowers Bloom and Wither

That year, in the heavy rain, you hurriedly forgot me; some things are buried in the corners of the heart.

Zhang Zhentian heard his son want to kick him out of the house. He was not convinced. Why was it that he, also a member of this family, could be forced to leave home by his son, while he himself could not stay?

”Dad, you should stand up and say a fair word. As children, should they kick their parents out of the house? Do you think this is something a son should do? Isn’t he afraid of being ridiculed by the world in the future?”

Old Master Zhang, though not fond of his son, felt that what his son said made sense. He didn’t want his grandson to be ridiculed by the world because of his son’s actions. He looked at his grandson and said: ”Yichen, Grandpa thinks your father makes complete sense. If you really kick them out of the house, then in the future, you will be ridiculed by the world. Grandpa doesn’t want you to be laughed at, so I hope you consider carefully whether to do this. Maybe your mom and dad don’t have malicious intent?”

Zhang Yichen didn’t expect that after things had reached this point, his grandfather would still stand up to plead for his wicked parents. He was dissatisfied and said to his grandfather in frustration: ”Grandpa, no matter what, they must leave this time. You know very well how outrageous their actions are, right? Who knew they would harm me time and again and then completely ruin the woman I love the most... How can I swallow this anger? I’ve said before, my dad and mom can harm me over and over again, but they cannot repeatedly hurt the woman I love most. If they hurt me and I can’t protect myself, that’s my choice, but if they harm my fiancée and I can’t protect her safety, it only proves I am a cowardly man. Grandpa, for so many years, you taught me earnestly. I have never forgotten that you always hoped I would be an upright man. Given this, why have you let me choose to forgive my parents again and again after today? Haven’t I provided them with enough chances? Time and again, I offered them retreat, but how do they repay me? With repeated hurt, they never thought about how my heart might be utterly devastated because of what they’ve done. They only think about their own interests and what they should get, never standing in my shoes to consider what I need or want as a son. They only obliterate what they don’t want and force upon me what they desire. I don’t understand—is it possible the bond between two people can be utterly destroyed because of parental coercion? Between us, after so many years, despite not living together or at each other’s sides for the past decade, we’ve always held onto each other in our hearts. You know, for ten years, she never gave up looking for me. Perhaps in my parents’ eyes, they think she wants to be with me because I am wealthy, because I am an economic emperor, so she is with me. But my parents never considered she is merely an ordinary girl, that she had a pure and innocent childhood. I trust my judgment in selecting people. I know what kind of person she is; she isn’t with someone she dislikes because of money. She’s not a vain woman. I trust her, yet my mother keeps hurting her. I don’t understand how she expects me to treat her so the painstaking effort of a son would be acknowledged?”

”Child, we as parents always hope our son lives happily and joyfully, never putting our interests before his lifelong happiness. Why does it seem like in your eye, this is how you think our parental love for you is? Is it truly so unbearable to you?” Xia Jing asked Zhang Yichen, heartbroken.

Zhang Yichen chuckled. He thought his mother’s acting was truly remarkable, still playing this role before him at this moment.

”Miss Xia Jing, before, I regarded you as my mother in my heart, regardless of how much harm you caused me, this sentiment never changed in my heart. But today, the pedestal you once held in my heart has collapsed into hell because your image is utterly destroyed by your hands. You hurt me so grievously before, I’ve always comforted myself, believing you were my mother and had no choice but to abandon me. No matter why you left me originally, I could forgive you. Yet today, I cannot forgive you because the harm you caused me today is far too great—it concerns my lifelong happiness. How do you bear to act? Such a high cliff! Even if you vehemently disagree with our marriage, you didn’t have to push her off the cliff—she’s a person too, born and raised by parents. You pushed her off the cliff like that—do you know how devastated her parents would be? You know if someone hurts me in the slightest as a son, you’d feel heartache. Why can’t you stand in others’ parents’ shoes and consider? Hurting someone else’s daughter—don’t others as parents feel heartache too? They are living, breathing people; surely being living people means more than just your reckless words, doesn’t it? For years, I’ve genuinely hated and disliked you. Seeing you return, I truly wanted to kick you out of the house. Your return had me unknowing of what harm I’d face. But had I known your return would lead to so much harm, I’d have done anything to prevent you from coming back. Only then would my beloved woman still be by my side, happily talking and chatting. But just your sudden appearance shattered what was a beautiful picture. Do you have not even a shred of guilt?”

Xia Jing was left speechless by Zhang Yichen’s words. She knew well the gravity of her mistakes, yet she chose to evade them—only keeping her correct deeds in mind.

”Since you have spoken such words, I can no longer maintain a dignified demeanor. But remember, if you continue contacting her, I must tell you her demise will be hastened by your closeness. Do not doubt the authenticity of my words because you can be sure I will do what I say. Even if it leads to utter ruination, I absolutely will not let you, as my son, suffer even a hint of harm...”

After speaking, Xia Jing left, leaving Zhang Yichen astonished by his mother’s words.

Don’t speak of love, don’t say why—memories can’t be erased from the mind.
