My Alleged Husband

Chapter 2103: Chapter 1936: Passing By

I don’t want you to erase me from your memory, pretending I was never hurt, everything is too agonizing!

Actually, Zhang Zhentian understands very clearly in his heart that his father, Old Master Zhang, has never been in good health, especially after being angered by him time and again; his health has deteriorated even further. But he has no choice; he doesn’t know what he should do. He can only choose to hurt his father’s heart over and over, he can only choose to make his father feel guilty again and again, he can only choose this way to make his father hate him. Originally, when he did this, his mind and heart were still clear; at that moment, he wasn’t numb. But until later, gradually, he became numb. He doesn’t know exactly why he treats his father this way, nor does he know the benefits of treating his father like this. He only knows that he once hurt his biological father, so he wants to vent all this hatred onto his father. But what he didn’t know was that his decision ended up harming the father who loved him the most, causing his father to fall seriously ill. His heart was further tormented, but he could never understand why, despite hurting his father, his father still loved him unconditionally, even wanting to leave everything to him. He didn’t understand what kind of force could lead his father to act this way towards such an unfilial son. It wasn’t until later that he realized that this force was a father’s love for his son. This love is fatherly love, as great as a mountain; it’s a force that one can never fully experience in a lifetime. This force is indeed so immense that no one is prepared to bear it, and yet his father had long since left him.

Old Master Zhang knew after his son made such a decision, his heart felt even worse. He also understood that his body could no longer wait; perhaps his life was about to end at that very moment. But he truly hoped the heavens would grant him more time so he could properly look after his child, wanting to make up for the neglect he showed his son over the years. He wanted to make up for all this love, but things lost can’t really return to the past, can they? Can things that have been missed really return to how they were before as if nothing ever happened? That’s absolutely impossible; it’s merely a form of self-comfort he feels inside. He doesn’t want this pain to happen to his heart; he also doesn’t want this pain to be perpetually borne by his heart.

”Son, Dad truly can’t wait any longer. If you insist on wandering far away and continue drifting, perhaps you won’t even see me one last time. You actually understand very well that for years my health hasn’t been good. I’ve been waiting for my son, my daughter-in-law, for my family to reunite, but that day seems hopeless forever. Since you’ve made this decision and you don’t want to come back to us, I won’t force you. I will only respect your decision, because respecting one another is the least one can do. In the past, it was I who deprived you of the right to freely make your own choices, which made you hate me intensely. But now, I hope you’ll understand, that since I can come to terms with it today, it proves I won’t treat you as before. Many times, if everyone takes a step back, wouldn’t everything be fine? Why must we be so tangled up, causing each other so much pain? I’m a father, so I know what things should be done and what shouldn’t. Of course, I’m also a man, a dignified man of seven feet. I stand upright and sit with dignity. For the mistakes I’ve made, I will definitely confess them to the harmed party, even if that person is my son. I will honestly admit my mistakes because I believe that living an honest life, I have nothing to feel guilty for in heaven or on earth. I’m worthy of my ancestors. As long as I can fulfill my inner thoughts, that’s sufficient. I won’t exert myself hoping for more; such hopes have no significance!”

After Old Master Zhang finished, he hung up the phone. Zhang Zhentian knew that his biological father was angry again. Perhaps this time, he really went a bit too far. He’s a senior; willing to admit mistakes to a junior like himself, why should he be so relentless?

In the blink of an eye, several days passed. During these days, the old man truly fell ill. Every day he was gloomy and dispirited; he truly didn’t know what kind of reason could compel him as a father to apologize personally to his son, yet his son refused to return to him, making it truly unbearable for him.

Zhang Yichen knew for sure this matter was related to his father. When he saw his grandfather sick, he was determined to talk properly with his biological father. This time, it wasn’t his reason but because of his grandfather. He couldn’t stand idly by while his grandfather fell ill due to his father. He couldn’t do it, even if it were an ordinary person; he couldn’t do it, especially not for a grandfather who cared for and raised him for so many years.

When Zhang Zhentian saw his son calling, he knew it wouldn’t be simple; otherwise, how could his father and son both come to persuade him back home?

”Go ahead, what’s the matter for calling me today? I know when you call me, it’s never anything good. Just say it straight, there’s no need to beat around the bush. You’ve never seen me as a father anyway; you still don’t need to this time either!”

”As long as you understand. I don’t want to say much to you; I just want to ask you one thing. Do you know what you told Grandpa? Ever since Grandpa called you last time, he’s been gloomy all alone at home, unable to eat. Do you hate him so much? What exactly did he do wrong to deserve your treatment? He’s your biological father! Doing such a thing, don’t you feel guilty? Doesn’t your heart ache? Grandpa gave up so much for you, even setting aside his valued pride and dignity, just to bring you back. But you?”

No matter what I do, I can’t do it right; when I close my eyes, tears keep flowing. It’s all my fault; it’s me who forced you to leave!
