My Alleged Husband

Chapter 2145: Chapter 1978: The Feeling of Being Loved

This isn’t necessarily what I want, but some things are indispensable.

Two months passed in the blink of an eye, and Ran Zhihan was finally going to be discharged. Originally happy to choose to be discharged, she didn’t know what awaited her. Only after being discharged did she realize how many things had happened during her hospital stay.

Since her last fallout with Zhang Yichen at the hospital, rumors have been spreading outside, claiming that Ran Zhihan was behind them. They all said Xia Jing kept Ran Zhihan in the hospital for so long because she couldn’t stand her future daughter-in-law and wanted to assert her authority before she got through the door. Some even said it was Zhang Yichen’s parents who orchestrated this, not wanting their son to be happy. Everyone claimed Zhang Zhentian and Xia Jing returned here to fight for this inheritance in front of their son, unwilling to let their son’s assets fall into the hands of this kind girl. All these rumors were pinned on Ran Zhihan. Xia Jing, upon hearing the gossip, didn’t investigate who spread it but chose to believe it was Ran Zhihan.

On this day, Ran Zhihan was discharged, Zhang Yichen was at the hospital entrance waiting for the girl to come out. But when she did come out and spotted him, she pretended not to see him, brushing past him. He reached out and grabbed Ran Zhihan. Like a stranger, she coldly said, ”Why are you grabbing me? Who are you? It’s improper for men and women to touch in public, let go, or I’ll call harassment!”

How could Zhang Yichen let go? For the past two months, he had been longing to see Ran Zhihan. But his grandfather wouldn’t let him leave the house, nor would his parents let him out. After breaking up with Ran Zhihan, he was too embarrassed to step outside, turning into a homebody for two whole months!

”It’s been two months, how can you still be angry? I came here to pick you up, can’t you just give me a little face? Come on, come home with me, let’s go to our home. Don’t wander alone outside anymore. I’ll make sure your parents are taken care of, don’t worry. I’ll never let my parents hurt them again. Just stay with me and live a good life!” Zhang Yichen finally chose to plead humbly.

Ran Zhihan had to admit, hearing these words from Zhang Yichen moved her deeply. But what could she do? She had already made up her mind; how could she turn back now? If she went back now, would her parents face the same or even worse harm as before? She couldn’t guarantee it, because as a son, he couldn’t stop his parents’ decisions.

”Go home? What home? We don’t even have a home together. Besides, what have your parents said and done? How have they hurt me? Because of them, my parents almost lost their lives. Dare I recklessly be with you again? I don’t want my parents to suffer again because of me, that would be too selfish. I want to live with honor and integrity, facing heaven and earth and my parents with no shame. But your parents have left me too cold-hearted!”

Ran Zhihan shook off Zhang Yichen’s hand and left. She didn’t want to see him standing before her because it would soften her heart.

”Can you truly abandon the ten years we’ve spent together? Since the day I met you, I deeply fell in love. You were my first love at first sight. I promise I’ll never fall for anyone else in this lifetime. Can’t you just forgive me this once? Why should I pay for the mistakes my mother made? She owes me years of motherly love and never spent a day with me. Why should I bear her mistakes? Isn’t that unfair to me? In your eyes, maybe a son’s debt can be repaid, or my mother’s debts can be repaid by me. But you know what? What my mother owes has nothing to do with me. Her mistakes should be her responsibility, not mine. That’s unfair to both of us. You are perfect for me. I can be myself with you, cry when I want, laugh when I want, do whatever I want. With others, I have to put on a smile and face them regardless of my mood to gain what I desire. But with you, my love, I can’t pretend. Can’t you just follow your heart and be with me? If you agree, let’s get engaged tomorrow, okay?” Zhang Yichen looked at Ran Zhihan expectantly.

Ran Zhihan froze. She never expected the typically oblivious man before her to propose so directly. She wished she could agree, wanted to agree, but now two little people inside her were struggling. Should she agree or stick with her previous decision? She was unsure about what outcome her actions would bring.

”I don’t know how I should proceed, nor do I know what consequences my choices will bring. All I know is, being with you before brought harm to my mother. My parents took the blame for me, nearly losing their lives. Now I hesitate. If I stay with you, would my mother suffer as before? Your mother hates me and never gives me any positive acknowledgment, no matter what I do. How can I face her? Perhaps, in her heart, only her son has a place, not her future daughter-in-law. Why should I persistently stay with you and endure your mother’s hurt repeatedly? I wasn’t born to be humiliated by your mother. I’m my mom’s hard-earned child after a ten-month pregnancy. Won’t my mother feel pain seeing her daughter bullied? She remains silent only because she hopes for our happiness and has never told them about you—being a rich kid—to avoid differences in status and education, which would only amplify our disparity. How could we be together then? Your mother can hurt me repeatedly for short-term gain. Can you guarantee she won’t harm my parents because of me?”

Zhang Yichen was stunned, not knowing how to respond! As long as you follow me without regret, how could I bear to see you suffer this way!
