My Alleged Husband

Chapter 298: Chapter 278 Daddy, Don’t Do This_1

Xia Jing was overjoyed to hear that Zhang Yichen had agreed to help persuade Zhentian, her husband. She knew that she still held a place in her son’s heart, but she also knew that her son didn’t know how to get along with her, his mother. Perhaps, after this ordeal, she could return to the Zhang Family, right?

Xia Jing’s thoughts were simply too naive. She believed that once her son went to persuade her husband, she would be able to return to the Zhang Family, but she could never have imagined that not only would it be futile, but it would actually make things even worse.

”My child, thank you. Mom knows I still have a place in your heart, it’s just that you don’t know how to get along with me, your mother, right? Don’t worry, from now on I will never do anything to hurt you again. Let’s all live happily together, okay? Mom now understands that harmony in the family leads to prosperity in all things...”

Zhang Yichen couldn’t believe these words were coming from his mother. In her eyes, such matters had never been important. She had only cared about her own interests, and if those interests met her requirements, she was prepared to achieve them by any means necessary. But today, he heard words like these, and he didn’t understand whether they were meant for him to hear, or if they were sincerely spoken. He also didn’t know how to verify the truth of these words, and if he did attempt to verify them, and the result left him disappointed, then what? He didn’t want to endure disappointment time and time again.

”Don’t get too excited too soon. My persuading him may be to no avail, it’s just a thought in your own mind. In his eyes, I, his son, am not as important as you. How is it possible that my speaking position could be greater than that of my grandfather? You’d better prepare yourself mentally for this matter. Considering how decisively he has proposed divorce to you, there must be something you did that betrayed and chilled his heart. I don’t know if I should say this, but as your son, I still want to advise you: for many things, I hope you don’t take for granted that everyone will be tolerant towards you. They do it because they consider you family in their hearts. I also hope you don’t always think you’re right in what you do. Something that you consider trivial might be hurtful to others. You should try putting yourself in other people’s shoes and consider their feelings—it’s not good to only think about your own interests. The reason things have escalated to this point today, I believe, has nothing to do with my dad. It must be due to something you did, and I don’t want to fully understand what it was, because I’m afraid the truth might be shocking...”

Xia Jing had not expected Zhang Yichen to see things so clearly. She wanted to explain, but before she could speak, her son interrupted her.

”You don’t have to say anything, nor do you need to explain anything to me. You know exactly what you’ve done; it’s clear in your own heart. There’s no need for me to point it all out, because that would just make things even more awkward between us. But in truth, I’ve always cared about you, as a mother should, and indeed, like you said, I didn’t know how to interact with you. Perhaps it’s because of this that you felt everything was engineered by the girl I love. I also believe that, deep down, you think she’s a truly kind girl. You’re unwilling to accept her because of me; all the hurtful things you’ve done to her have also been because of me. But I don’t blame you, Mom. I’ve been looking forward to the day you could return to my side, to watch me grow up. How happy that would make me, even though I lacked a mother’s love for over a decade, and also a father’s love, because of your absence. But now, I don’t blame you or Dad anymore, because I’ve realized that hating someone is truly exhausting; it turns one into a devil. I don’t want my heart to be forever filled with hatred. I want to live happily and joyfully with you, and maybe that day will come soon, or maybe it will never come. Regardless, I hope you understand that you, as my mother, will always have a place in my heart as your son, and that’s a fact that will never change. I’ve never once thought of giving up on you as my mother. You gave me life, and that’s what has led to my achievements today. No matter what you do, you’re still my mom. Even if you were a murderer, you’d still be my mom. I don’t care whose son I am; what matters to me is that my parents are by my side, and that our family can be together, living happily. That alone is enough for me. Maybe you think that’s too much for me to ask for!”

Xia Jing felt pained hearing the heartfelt words from her son; it was all her own doing, after all. She had made so many mistakes; perhaps she really did deserve to be punished. Maybe what her husband did wasn’t wrong; it was just her refusal to accept reality.

”My child, thank you for saying all that to me today. Your words this evening are enough for my lifetime. Now, I’m willing to do anything. I don’t even expect your father to forgive and continue life with me anymore, because I have you, my son. I want to tell you: the thoughts you shared with me are not extravagant hopes. Instead, they are the love your parents should have given you all along, but failed to do so. It’s us who have made you into who you are today. It’s us who caused you so much pain and suffering, so much discrimination from others. I’m sorry. It’s the fault of your father and me. We should not have abandoned you. Now I understand, nothing is more important than the happiness of one’s own child. As long as my son is happy, what’s the harm in losing my freedom for the rest of my life? Child, if one day, I truly leave you, I hope you remember that your mother loves you from the bottom of her heart. Despite all the wrongs I’ve done to you, my love for you is sincere and true!”

Zhang Yichen felt something off about Xia Jing’s words, but he couldn’t quite pinpoint what it was.

”Mom, what do you mean by that? Are you going to leave us?” Zhang Yichen asked, puzzled.

”My child, no matter where I go, you will always be in my heart. It’s time for me to take responsibility for the wrongs I’ve done. I owe you over a decade of maternal love, and for that, I am sorry. But I hope you remember to always treat your wife well, to not let her suffer any harm. I also hope you don’t abandon your children like we did. You are a responsible and accountable person, and I understand who you are. Having you as my son in this life makes me feel proud and honored. Child, if one day I do leave you, don’t miss me too much, and please don’t tell your father that your mother looked for you, okay? Consider it a plea from your mother!”
