My Alleged Husband

Chapter 255: Chapter 235 Strong Breakup_1

Ran Zhihan looked at the stunned expression on Zhang Yichen’s face and found it amusing. It turned out that everything was just her wishful thinking. She had always thought that as long as she spoke such words, she would definitely get the answer she wanted. However, to her disappointment, she didn’t know what to do or what to say to find a way that wouldn’t hurt either of them. Such a method was so hard to find. She racked her brains, but in the end, she had no idea at all. Was fate really unchangeable? Was she destined to follow the path laid out by fate forever? No, she didn’t want to live such a life. She wanted to take control of her own life. Why should she let fate decide her destiny? Her path was paved by her own efforts, not one that others had laid out for her to step on step by step. Such a path would not only be short-lived but also exhaust the heart. Instead of enduring this, why not pick up her own weapon and fight for it?

”Since you can’t give me an answer to my question, let’s not contact each other from today on. For me, if you can’t give me any promises, why bother being with me? There will be no good result for either of us. It’s better for you to go home and be with your parents. Maybe only then can you live a happy and peaceful life, and at the same time, my parents won’t get hurt by our relationship anymore. No matter when, I won’t forget the hurt your mother caused me. I chose to forgive because of you. I didn’t want you to be caught between me and your mother, which was not my intention. But what your mother did is really unforgivable. The repeated hurt, the slander... what does she even take me for? I’m human too, I have a soul. Why does she keep hurting me? Just because I’m not her own child, she can disregard my life? My parents are ordinary people; does that mean she can treat lives as she pleases? What are my parents to her? What am I to her? In her eyes, she only values you, her son. She only knows what will make you happy and what will bring you the greatest benefit, so you can have a smooth journey in the future. That’s her purpose. As the daughter of average citizens, I can give you nothing, I cannot help you with anything, so I’m worthless in her eyes. To her, a person without any usage is useless. Whoever feels that someone has no value to them, then that person doesn’t need to exist by their side. They would just occupy a space and become a bother. This is how your parents view things; in their eyes, you, their son, are more important than everything else. Our lives don’t matter to them; only your life matters, your happiness is happiness, and your well-being is their ultimate goal...”

Zhang Yichen grasped Ran Zhihan’s hand tightly, incessantly saying to her, ”Zhihan, it’s not what you think, believe me, I have the capability to handle this. The entire world is mine, can’t I even manage such a trivial matter of love? Can’t you trust me a little more? You know how much I like you. It’s been ten years, how can we just say it’s over? If you can really leave me, why can’t you look into my eyes when you speak? Because you feel guilty, right? Deep down, you still have me in your heart, don’t you? If that’s the case, why should we give up our love just because of my parents’ objections?”

”Our love? You make it sound so easy. Haven’t you learned what kind of person I am after all these years together? From the day I found you, from the day your parents came back to the country because of the news about us and recognized you, do you have any idea how much I’ve suffered for you? Every time I kept the pain to myself, I didn’t want to make you feel troubled, so I chose not to say a word even with so much suffering. But did you ever stop your parents from hurting me? This time it was just a dagger, what about next time? Will she use gunpowder and bombs against my parents? I can’t ensure that by being with you, I won’t bring disaster upon my parents again. Watching my parents get hurt over and over for my sake makes me feel guilty. Watching them nearly lose their lives time and again for me weighs heavily on my heart. But you might think all this is to be expected. Everyone thinks differently, so there’s no need for us to be entangled in these matters anymore. As long as you think you can be happy, that is enough!”

”You are mistaken,” Xia Jing said wearily, ”I’ve never taken our relationship for granted. I know everything we’ve done is for both of us. But I’ve come to a realization; during the time we’ve been together, your aunt has held a knife to my throat, forcing me to leave, but I didn’t. I chose to stay and pursue my studies abroad. Currently, my academic performance is excellent, and I don’t want anything to disrupt my studies. Right now, nothing is more important to me than my education. You should go home, before your mother finds out you are here with me. She will pressurize me again, and hurt my parents once more, an outcome neither of us wants to see again!” Yichen tried to explain, but could such matters be resolved with a mere explanation? Hurt is not caused in a day or two but through repeated offenses. The pain Ran Zhihan experienced from Xia Jing, the first was heartache, the second disappointment, and the third, despair. Having reached the point of despair, how could any feelings remain? She did not want to hear any explanations from the man before her now. She felt all explanations were superfluous. Could the truth of past events really be concealed by a few pleasing lies? The hurt lingered in her heart—could it truly vanish with a few sweet nothings?

”There is nothing left for us to discuss,” she continued, her voice resolute, ”I’m exhausted, I want to go home and rest. Please, stop following me around, okay? You should go back and consider how you’re going to spend the rest of your days with your parents. You’re truly happy when you’re with them. Why should your family fall apart over an outsider like me? That would only deepen my sense of guilt. You’d do well to persuade your mother to stop pursuing me. It won’t result in anything good for her. I have forgiven her time and again, but that doesn’t mean I’m indifferent to the harm she’s done to me each time. I hope you understand that people have feelings that can be hurt. Your mother has wounded me too, and it has chilled me to the heart. No matter what you say this time, I won’t look back. Go home, and from today forward, let’s have no more contact!”

After saying this, Ran Zhihan broke free from Zhang Yichen’s grasp and left without looking back!
