My Alleged Husband

Chapter 263: Chapter 243: A Little More Trust_1

Ran Zhihan ran out, and Xia Jingyi wasn’t worried at all. She sat leisurely by herself in the lounge of the chapel. When Zhang Yichen arrived at the chapel, he saw that his beloved girl wasn’t there. Instead, sitting in the lounge was his mother. He was a bit curious about where his girlfriend had gone. No, she should no longer be called his girlfriend, but rather his fiancée now. He didn’t know where his fiancée had run off to. He walked over to ask Xia Jing.

”Mom, have you seen Zhihan?”

Xia Jing couldn’t care less about Ran Zhihan’s safety. In her eyes, as long as her own family was happy, that was enough; she wouldn’t bother about others.

”Oh, what now, Ran Zhihan has disappeared? Could she have run away because she doesn’t want to marry you? Ah, I really don’t know what you’re thinking. How could you fall for such a woman? If she’s gone, she’s gone. Now you can go find someone new. Isn’t that better? Do you mean to tell me that you’ve never thought of another woman in your heart? I simply don’t believe you are that devoted!” Xia Jing calmly spoke to Zhang Yichen, thinking that it was better for Ran Zhihan to have left on her own, saving her the trouble of getting rid of her!

As soon as Zhang Yichen heard his mother’s words, his heart understood immediately. He knew that the matter wasn’t so simple, and Ran Zhihan’s sudden departure must be related to his mother. Hadn’t all the incidents that occurred been like this? Every time he was about to achieve his own happiness, didn’t his mother always come to cause trouble?

”Mom, tell me honestly, does Zhihan’s inexplicable disappearance today have anything to do with you?” Zhang Yichen asked with a dark face.

Xia Jing was taken aback. She hadn’t expected her son to be so smart. Clearly, she hadn’t said anything, so how could he have known? Could Ran Zhihan have told him? No, that couldn’t be—Xia Jing remembered that when Ran Zhihan had left, she hadn’t even taken her mobile phone with her; how could she have told Zhang Yichen? So, how did he find out?

”Why do you say that this has something to do with me? On what basis do you conclude that it was my doing?” Xia Jing asked Zhang Yichen curiously.

”There’s no why and no basis. I just want to know if this has anything to do with you or not.”

”It’s not important whether I did this or not. What’s important is that she has now chosen to leave you. Since she has chosen to go, why must you cling to her so desperately?” Xia Jing couldn’t understand why Zhang Yichen was still holding on when Ran Zhihan had already left.

”Because I believe that since she made the decision to stay with me for a lifetime, then she would never easily choose to leave me. Moreover, this time she came back on her own initiative to agree to be with me and accepted my proposal. Given that, how could she choose to leave me?”

”If you don’t believe she would leave you on her own accord, then what makes you suspect it was me? You have no evidence, don’t tarnish someone’s reputation without proof.”

”Since you claim you didn’t do it, then I hope you can voluntarily make a cursed vow, and if you did have a hand in this, then you shall fall into Avici Hell, never to turn over a new leaf. In truth, I don’t have solid proof to say you did this, but ever since you returned, every hitch in the relationship between her and me is related to you. Which incident didn’t involve you? Can you dare to say you haven’t meddled in today’s matter? If you haven’t, then I will apologize to you right now and immediately take you back to the Zhang Family. If you were involved, then never in your life think about returning to the Zhang Family again!”

Xia Jing had not expected her son to be so cruel as to make her swear such a curse. The matter clearly involved her, and she was the manipulator behind it, so how could she take that vow? If she made the cursed vow, then she’d never be able to go back, but if she didn’t swear, she also wouldn’t be able to get to the Zhang Family. Zhang Yichen’s words really put her in a tough spot.

”I didn’t do this, why should I have to make a cursed vow to you? Even if you are my son, you can’t treat me like this. No matter what, I am your biological mother, and you have no right to keep me away. When you turned me away in Sanjiang, you were being unfilial. As someone so unfilial, what right do you have to demand so much from me? I’ve given up so much, all in the hopes that you could be happy, joyful. Am I really that detestable in your eyes? You are the child that I gave everything to carry and bring into this world. Even if you don’t want to acknowledge me as your mother, genetically, I am and will be recognized as your biological mother; it’s a fact you can never change in your lifetime, you’ll always be my son...” Xia Jing could not help but laugh after finishing her words. She knew she couldn’t make her son angry no matter what, but this would surely anger him, for in Zhang Yichen’s eyes, having her as a mother was his greatest humiliation.

Zhang Yichen really could not take any more. He couldn’t bear having his biological mother challenge his limits time and again. Everyone’s patience has its limits, and confronted with her endless provocations, he couldn’t help but explode with fury.

”Enough, regardless of what you’re saying, I’ll never believe you. You’ve never cared for my happiness for a second; all you want are your own gains. For personal benefits, you go to any lengths—you threw away even your own son. What’s there you can’t do? You claim to be my mother, yet, could you really bear to see your own son suffer so much right before your eyes?”

”Truthfully, it does pain me to see you suffer. But given the circumstances, I have no choice but to do this. If I were to yield, I would ruin your life, and as your mother, I would never harm my child. I just hope you can trust me just this once, wouldn’t a bit more trust between us be so much better?”

”Based on what you’ve just admitted, are you acknowledging your involvement? I knew it wasn’t so simple; you must have said or done something to him. How can you be like this? Don’t you know? My reason for wanting her to return for our engagement is to ensure you will never again hurt her parents. Today, you didn’t hurt her parents, but you deeply wounded her. Once we are married, she will be your daughter-in-law; how could you bear to harm her so? Is it that in your eyes, only yourself matters, and nobody else is important?” Zhang Yichen felt truly disheartened. Why, for all he had done for his mother, could he never reap any benefits? He had forgiven her time and time again throughout the years, and only he knew the depth of his longing for his mother.

”Since you already know the truth, just say what you want to say. I want to know, after this incident, have you decided to cut ties with your biological mother forever? Are you really planning on shutting me out? Don’t forget, I am your grandfather’s lawful daughter-in-law, your father’s lawful wife, and I have every right to return home. You have no authority to cast me out.”

”If that’s the case, then let’s never contact each other again in this lifetime. If you choose to come back home, then I will certainly move out because every day I see you, I’m reminded of the hurt you’ve caused my fiancée. I don’t have the time to argue with you right now; I need to go find my fiancée!”
