My Alleged Husband

Chapter 259: Chapter 239 Stirring_1

Ran Zhihan, after hearing what Zhang Yichen had said, could hardly believe her ears. Had she heard wrong? Her boyfriend, who had been with her for so long, had never uttered a single sweet word of affection, so why had he suddenly said so many today? Was she really that important to him? For her sake, he was even willing to go against his own parents and drive them out of their house; where could she find another man like that? Despite this, her heart was still in turmoil. She was unsure about the consequences each decision might bring and feared that any decision she made would result in even graver harm. She couldn’t bear to be hurt anymore.

”Rest assured, I’ll think it over carefully. If you don’t have anything else today, you should leave quickly. Don’t stay here for too long, as seeing you only reminds me of the pain your mother has caused me. That might affect my judgment. If you don’t wish for me to make any unfavorable judgments about you for whatever reason, then I ask you to leave right now!” Ran Zhihan told Zhang Yichen.

Zhang Yichen felt that Ran Zhihan had a point. ”Alright, I’ll head back for today. You think it over well, I hope you can make the right choice. Perhaps you think that leaving me is no big deal, but for me, leaving you is akin to losing the entire world. To me, you are more important than the whole world. I can start over if I lose my career, but without you, I’d have truly lost everything because there’s only one Ran Zhihan in the entire world...”

”I understand!”

Zhang Yichen turned around and left Li Jiayuan’s home. With every three steps, he looked back at the girl he loved dearly—a girl who stood right before him, yet he couldn’t reach out to touch. He knew that if he tried to touch her, she would forever cut ties with him.

Lei Shao, seeing Zhang Yichen leave their home, couldn’t help but ask Ran Zhihan, ”Elder Sister Zhihan, I feel like Brother Yichen truly loves you. Why do you treat him this way? The grievances of the older generation shouldn’t taint the happiness of your generation. If you remain entangled in the harm his mother has caused you, how will you ever find happiness in this life? I can see that he has never loved anyone the way he loves you. In his eyes, he does not love even his grandfather with the same intensity as he loves you. He is willing to pay any price for you, and I hope that sometimes you can try to see things from his perspective.”

Ran Zhihan found it somewhat amusing. Why was it that whenever something happened, all the blame fell on her head? Hadn’t she always considered things from his perspective? If she hadn’t, she wouldn’t be standing here now and wouldn’t have made such a decision.

”Lei Shao, to tell you the truth, I’m happy to have you as a friend, but one can’t force matters of the heart. I don’t want to dwell on the harm his mother has caused me and my parents, but let’s reverse the roles. How many times has he taken a stand and resisted his mother whenever she inflicted harm upon us? He dares not lift a hand against his mother. He only dares to say things, but if all he can do is talk, then what use do I have for such a man?”

”Elder Sister Zhihan, you really don’t understand him. You never considered that while you’re confronting his mother, he’s enduring the tremendous pressure she’s putting on him. Despite the intense pressure from his mother, he never gave up. So what gives you the right to tell him to give up? Aren’t you just hurting his fragile self-esteem? You know, anyone can lack self-esteem, but he simply can’t be without it. He feels that if he loses his self-esteem, he can’t survive in this world. Yet, for your sake, time and time again he’s set aside his pride. Do you not feel anything? I believe you’re not a heartless person, so why do you treat him like this? Just because his mother hurt you, are you really going to retaliate against him?”

”I never thought about taking revenge on him, but this time his mother hurt me so deeply. Although I said I wanted to take revenge, deep inside, I didn’t really feel that way. I just don’t want him to suffer under his mother’s oppression because of our relationship. Do you understand? That kind of pressure is monumental, it can crush you until you can’t breathe. He’s at the peak of his career now. If his mother’s pressure destroys his career, how can I be at peace?”

”So, to ensure his career progresses smoothly, you chose to give up the man you love? Do you realize how hurtful your decision is? Don’t tell me you’ve never had feelings for him...” Lei Shao said expectantly to Ran Zhihan.

”I must admit, when she spoke those words to me today, I truly was moved. Do you know? In the months I’ve been with him, he’s never whispered sweet nothings into my ear. Today was the first time, and it might also be the last time in this lifetime. When I heard him say those words to me, do you know how happy and excited I felt? But I couldn’t show it because once I did, he would see right through me, and it would be even less likely for me ever to leave him!”

”If you love him so much, why do you choose to hurt him like this? Since you admit that his words of love deeply moved you today, why not give yourselves another chance instead of letting it come to this? How does this benefit you or him? I understand that couples in love often can’t let go of their pride, but it’s precisely because you can’t put aside your pride that so much harm is done. Many issues could be resolved if you would just think it over. If you give up your love because of his mother, you will undoubtedly regret it your whole life. Good men like him are rare. In his eyes, you might be a commoner, but he treasures you like a gem. Why can’t you treat him with the same regard? He loves you so much, is it so impossible for you to love him back in the same way?”

”My heart is truly conflicted right now; I don’t know what outcome the decision I should make will bring. I kept telling myself that being with him and our happiness was all that mattered. But now I realize that the happiness of two people can hurt two families. Rather than let both families suffer for our happiness, why not sacrifice my love to preserve both families?”

”I don’t know how to persuade you, but I hope you understand that you shouldn’t wait until it’s gone to regret it, and when you look back, no one will be standing there waiting for you—just emptiness. Maybe you don’t care now, but when that moment truly comes, you’ll feel that being together is better. This is the love between you two. I shouldn’t interfere, but I can’t bear to see him in such pain. I’ve never seen him suffer like this over anything. Please, I’m begging you, show mercy and love him properly...”
