My Alleged Husband

Chapter 253: Chapter 233 Persuasion Fails _1

As Zhang Yichen stepped out of the hospital room, Ran Zhihan cried. How could she possibly bear it? She knew how deeply she loved this man, yet when it was crucial, she had to make a choice. If she continued this entanglement with him, it was likely that in the end, not only would they both be hurt, but more people might be hurt as well. This was too cruel for her; she couldn’t do it.

Li Jiayuan watched Zhang Yichen come out of the hospital room and felt a bit curious. What on earth did the two of them talk about? Could it be that they had come to an agreement?

Li Jiayuan spoke up and asked Zhang Yichen, ”How did your talk go? Did Zhihan agree to continue being with you?”

Li Jiayuan was somewhat hopeful. She awaited a satisfying answer from Zhang Yichen, but the outcome he revealed was unbelievable to hear.

”Aunt, it’s no use. She’s made up her mind not to be with me. No matter what I say, it’s useless. Since she’s decided to leave me, all I can do is let go. All of this started because of my mom. Don’t be fooled by her forgiving my mom, deep down, she still has shadows in her heart. Actually, I should have realized it myself—how could she possibly forgive my mom so easily? The harm my mom caused to her family couldn’t be remedied with just a few words. Maybe, only by truly leaving can she truly forget the harm my mom caused and start a new life!” As Zhang Yichen said these things, his eyes were brimming with tears.

”Yichen, have you really given up so easily? She’s a good girl. If you give up on her just like that, it will be hard for you to find someone like her again. Listen to your aunt, go and talk to her again. I believe she’ll understand...”

”Understand? Now that things have escalated to this point, how can you expect her to understand? Wasn’t she understanding enough of my mother before? Think about it, all the things my mother did to hurt her, to hurt her parents. Did she ever utter a word of complaint? She has sacrificed so much for her parents, for the sake of being with me. Being with me has caused her so much harm. My mother didn’t just hurt her once; she went out of her way to keep hurting her and repeatedly tried to force her to leave me. Do you know how hard it is for her to stay strong by my side amidst such pressure? It was not at all easy. How could I be so selfish and let her suffer harm for the rest of her life? I am not a heartless man. Having my beloved live a happy life is more important to me than anything else.”

”Yichen, I know you’re a good kid. Are you really going to give up on this many years of affection just because of what your mother did? Can you bear to do that? Do you have the heart to do it?” Li Jiayuan couldn’t believe that Zhang Yichen would just give up so easily on so many years of affection. She didn’t believe that someone’s love could be so fragile.

”Aunt, I know what you’re trying to say. Maybe you think our love can’t withstand any setbacks and is fragile. But in my eyes, our love has been through so much trouble just to be together. And even then, we couldn’t avoid the hurt caused by my own mother. Her actions have done more than just cause pain. If ordinary people treated us like that, we could accept it because they don’t understand us. But she is my mother, why would my own mother want to destroy my marriage? In her eyes, is my happiness really less important than her interests? All these years, I have never hated anyone so much, have never been so sick of anyone. Today I truly hate her for hurting the girl I love over and over again, for treating my life’s happiness as nothing. I can forgive her for hurting me time and again, for abandoning me, for all the hurt she’s caused me in the past, but I can’t bear it, I can’t watch helplessly as she hurts the girl I love. Do you know? When I saw that dagger heading towards Zhihan, I wanted to rush over and take the stab for her. But there wasn’t enough time, and before I could act, I saw blood pouring from my beloved’s chest, turning her pure white shirt red. The blood gushed out like water from an open tap. That scene still leaves me in shock. I have never imagined seeing real blood gushing out like that. It was the first time in my life I saw such a bloody scene. Do you know? It wasn’t someone else who did this. It was my own mother. How can I accept that? And the most important thing, my father was involved, too. I had already forgiven him and let him return to the Zhang Family. Why wasn’t he content? Does he have to drive the girl I love completely away from me before they are truly satisfied?”

As Zhang Yichen spoke, he started to cry, his heart aching. He so wished he could receive the love of his parents, he so hoped to be blessed by his parents while being with the girl he loved. But why was it so difficult? When he had finally convinced the person he loved to be with him, his parents repeatedly came to cause trouble. Despite her forgiveness, after he had heeded the words of his beloved and forgiven the parents who had abandoned him for over a decade, why did it result in him lying in the hospital? He was not content, not happy, his good intentions were treated with contempt by his own parents. His pride was hurt. The proud man he was, had to beg for his beloved, again and again, to be trampled underfoot by his parents. He was not resigned. Why did everything target him alone? Why did her parents, for their freedom and their interests, hurt the girl he loved so deeply? Any man would stand up for the woman he loves, not to mention a twenty-something-year-old man who could stand proud in business. Why did he have to be so humble in front of his love? He had begged more than once for his beloved to stay by his side, but why was there no result? Why was there only endless hurt in the end? His heart was not content as he watched his beloved lie immobile in the hospital bed. His heart hurt, but what could he do? He knew all this was brought on by his mother, and as her son, his only choices were to accept and silently endure all the hurt. He couldn’t fight back, and even if he did, it would be useless. He knew that if he ever stood up to his mother, it would only bring more hurt to the person he loved. He decided, perhaps it’s still best to let his mother explain everything thoroughly.”
