My Alleged Husband

Chapter 275: Chapter 255 Passing By_1

”Yichen, you’re finally being discharged from the hospital today, are you happy? After you’re discharged, you can do whatever you want, no more restrictions like in the hospital, where you couldn’t do anything you wanted...” Old Master Zhang said to Zhang Yichen.

Zhang Yichen looked at his grandfather. He didn’t know what to say. Although he had been eager to be discharged, because he felt that once he was out, not only would he be free from so many constraints, but he could also go find that girl he wanted to be with.

”Grandfather, although I’ve always been looking forward to being discharged, I believe you know why I’m so eager to leave the hospital, and I know you understand what’s on my mind, but now I’m quite conflicted!”

Old Master Zhang didn’t understand what his grandson was conflicted about. He had always longed to be discharged early, but now, on the day of his discharge, he suddenly felt conflicted.

”Child, what are you conflicted about? You can tell your grandfather. If you have any unsolvable mysteries, you can also discuss them with me, and I will try my best to help you solve them...”

”Grandfather, so much time has already passed, I don’t understand if that girl of mine is still waiting for me, and I don’t know in which corner she is waiting for me right now, maybe she’s already flying high with someone else. Grandfather, how do you think I would feel if one day I find her and there’s another man by her side? That’s why I feel so conflicted. I don’t know if I should go look for her. I’m afraid the result of finding her will, again, be a heartbreaking one. Grandfather, what should I do? For so long, my heart has been missing her, I’m afraid she will leave me. As soon as I close my eyes, all I can think of is her silhouette; I can’t live without her!” Zhang Yichen said to Old Master Zhang.

Today Old Master Zhang was stunned by what his grandson said. For so long, this was the first time he had heard his grandson say he was in a dilemma.

”Child, your grandfather always thought you were strong inside, and I always felt you wouldn’t be conflicted over anything, but today, hearing your words, I realize that I was wrong. You also have your moments of weakness, times when you don’t know what decision to make. I know what’s in your heart, but I still hope you’ll follow it. If you truly wish to be with the woman you love for life, you must search for her no matter what the outcome is after finding her. At least that way, you won’t have a lifetime of regret. Your grandfather believes in you. If you do find her and there’s another man by her side, I know you’ll be generous enough to wish her happiness. Because you’re the best!” Old Master Zhang consoled Zhang Yichen.

Zhang Yichen let out a long sigh and said to Old Master Zhang, ”Grandfather, you’re right, I can definitely speak to her with generous words of blessing, if... if there really is another man standing by her side, then I will make sure she’s happy. I can’t let my beloved woman be sad, that would be the most impotent thing for a man, do you know? My heart has always been missing her. I’ve forgotten everything else, but I haven’t forgotten you or the woman who holds the dearest place in my heart. I thought the first person I would see when I woke up would be my beloved woman, but it turned out, the first person I saw when I opened my eyes was you—my grandfather. Grandfather, do you know? I’m always so grateful to you, for letting me understand the warmth of family love, for helping me experience your selfless love, for making it clear to me that there isn’t just possession in this world, there is also selfless giving...”

”Child, everything will pass. Forget the unpleasant things from the past. Your grandfather hopes that in the future you can open your heart to everyone, for only then can you live a happy life. Don’t keep living in the pain of the past, because what’s gone cannot come back. You can only choose to look forward. The person you’ve lost wishes for you to be happy, right?”

Zhang Yichen heard his grandfather say something wrong, which seemed a bit off. An inexplicable sense of foreboding appeared in his heart. He suddenly looked up at his grandfather and asked loudly, ”Grandfather, are you keeping something from me? What do you mean by ’the deceased has passed on’? Could it be that the woman I love is no longer in this world?”

Old Master Zhang had not expected his grandson to react so strongly. Just a few casual words from him had allowed his grandson to pick up on the key phrase. How was he supposed to handle this situation now? He laughed awkwardly and said to his grandson, ”You’re overthinking it. It was just an example, why have you become so sensitive? Alright, let’s not talk about this anymore. We should pack up and head home. Once we’re at home, we can sit down and discuss everything properly. Here, the scent of disinfectant is too strong, and it’s making me uncomfortable.”

Zhang Yichen didn’t think too much about it and believed what Old Master Zhang had said. The two of them quickly packed up their things and completed the discharge procedures. But as they walked out of the hospital together, they saw Ran Zhihan!

At the entrance of the hospital, he had only expected to see the woman he had chosen as his future daughter-in-law, but why didn’t she greet him? This baffled him. He thought he had mistaken someone else for her, but when he saw Lei Jian next to Zhihan, he realized he hadn’t mistaken her for someone else. He couldn’t understand what had happened. Why did Ran Zhihan look at him as if he were a stranger?

Zhang Yichen felt that the woman walking past him was very familiar, yet he couldn’t remember who she was. She reminded him of a silhouette he had seen in a dream. He wanted to call out and stop her, but he didn’t know her name, and she looked at him as if he were a stranger too because they both had lost their memories, forgetting each other’s identity and names. They had only ever seen each other’s silhouettes in their dreams.

”Grandfather, why aren’t you speaking?” Zhang Yichen noticed that Old Master Zhang was uncomfortable. He had never seen his grandfather so troubled by an issue or question these past months. Was it because his grandfather had encountered someone he knew?

”It’s nothing, it’s nothing; I just suddenly remembered something. You go ahead and take the car home. Grandfather has a little matter to attend to and will be back soon!” Old Master Zhang told Zhang Yichen.

Zhang Yichen didn’t think much of it and did as his grandfather had said, returning home. He got everything at home in order, but his grandfather still hadn’t returned.

Once Old Master Zhang saw his grandson leave, he chased after Lei Jian.

Seeing Old Master Zhang approaching, Lei Jian had a bad feeling. Why had he come at this time?
