My Alleged Husband

Chapter 285: Chapter 265 We Realized Our Mistake_1

Old Master Zhang, although he found his grandson’s words to be very reasonable, still couldn’t bring himself to be as free of desires as his grandson—perhaps it’s simply a matter of different personalities.

He knew there was nothing wrong with what his grandson had said, but how could he be like his grandson? He could no longer endure the turmoil between his son and daughter-in-law; he was afraid, terrified of being abandoned by them once more. He couldn’t bear another abandonment.

”Child, do you really refuse to give your parents one last chance? Maybe they truly understand what they did wrong before,” Old Master Zhang spoke to Zhang Yichen.

”Grandpa, how can you still not understand? To the two of them, freedom is more important than either of us. Even though you’re his father and I’m his son, in their eyes, we’re insignificant. They only care about their own interests. After all the storms we’ve weathered, all the things we’ve been through, haven’t you realized it yet? To be honest, ever since that phone call from him ten years ago, since he didn’t come back even then, I knew the bond between me and him as father and son was over. A father who doesn’t see me as his son—I don’t need that. A mother who doesn’t see me as her son—I don’t need her either. What I need is a family member who will treat me as part of the family. Is that too much to ask? They’ve hurt me over and over again, repeatedly hurt the people I love. I’ve endured it all, but what about now? They’ve harmed me to this extent. Many times, it’s not that I don’t know; I choose to be silent, because I think silence will leave an escape route for each of you, not blocking your way entirely, giving you the chance to turn back. But have you thought about it? Have you truly thought about turning back?”

Zhang Zhentian, whether he had learned from Old Master Zhang or not, realized that his son was determined to completely sever their father-son relationship. He was driven to desperation, hurrying back home. He had to make things clear with his son; he absolutely couldn’t lose contact with him like this, for it would make him feel that life wasn’t worth living.

Thump thump thump... thump thump thump...

Zhang Yichen walked over and opened the door, and he saw that the visitor was his own biological father, which made him immediately delighted.

”Didn’t I make it clear? I told you to leave this place and never to appear before me again, to never disturb my life again. Don’t you understand? Is it fun to keep doing this over and over?” Zhang Yichen’s face was full of displeasure!

”My son, I now truly realize my mistakes. Can you please forgive your dad? I promise I won’t do this again. Let me return to your side and be with you, to watch you grow up, is that okay? I want to see you get married one day and to hold my grandchildren. My son, consider this a plea from your dad. Please agree to let me come home and stay with you. Without you, I really feel so lonely and sad. As a father, I have no other intention but to be by your side, to watch my own son grow up. Is there something wrong with that?”

”I’m sorry, sir, but have you got the wrong idea? Have you forgotten how you treated me before, or are you just shameless? Everyone has their limits, and you’ve crossed mine again and again, which I’ve endured. You hurt the person I loved the most, and I endured that too. You let your wife do all those things to me, and I’ve endured it all. But do you really realize your mistakes? If you do, why didn’t you stop your wife from committing those atrocious acts? I don’t think you actually understand your wrongs; you just want to continue tormenting me. I can’t take it anymore, alright? I’m scared. I don’t know how to accept your love, because it’s completely alien to me, you know? For all these years, when I needed a father’s love the most, you weren’t by my side. When I needed a mother’s love, she wasn’t there either. When I needed my parents’ protection, you both were absent. During the toughest times of my growth, when I needed an adult the most, you were both nowhere to be found. What right do you have to tell me now that you love me? Is abandonment your way of showing love? If so, what use is that love to me? I don’t want you to tell me that you were earning money, or anything like that. In my heart, I don’t need my parents to have a lot of money or to show me a lot of affection. I just hoped they would stand behind me when I was hurt, to offer their greatest support; that would have been enough. But you never did it, not once. Do you still call that love? Just because you wanted your own money, your own freedom, you had to abandon me, your son? How can you be so selfish? Hurting me once or twice wasn’t enough, so you had to do it three or four times? Until I’m scarred all over? I’m human, not wood. Every time you hurt me, it pained me, but I chose to endure it because I thought that someday you would realize that having a son like me by your side was a good thing. But up to now, you never thought so. Time after time, you took my endurance for granted, thinking it was my lenience.”

”Child, no matter how excessive the things we’ve done before were, we are still your parents. As a junior, you have no right to instruct us, nor to criticize us. Do you think that’s appropriate? Are you still behaving as a junior? I’m telling you, even if you want to deny that we are your parents, this is a fact that’s ingrained in blood and law. You will forever be our son, and that is an unchangeable fact. You’re our son and you must carry the name of being our son for life. Are you satisfied with that? You’re always covering up, always plotting to challenge us repeatedly, thinking that your parents are scared of you. We only want to make up for our shortcomings towards you. Child, be self-aware. Don’t forget that if it weren’t for me and your mom, you wouldn’t have today. If we hadn’t given you life, where would your achievements come from? No matter how great your achievements, even if you were the Jade Emperor himself, you would still be our son because we gave you life. Even if we didn’t raise you, it was us who brought you into this world, your mother who went through the hard labor of carrying you for ten months. Your grandfather must have taught you not to be ungrateful. Don’t you think you’re being ungrateful right now? If you can cast aside your own parents, are you still worthy of being called someone’s child? Don’t be too excessive. Today I’m definitely here to ask you, to let me stay in the Zhang family, yet you shut me out. There may come a day when you seek something from me, and I hope you’ll remember every word you’ve said to me today!”
