My Alleged Husband

Chapter 282: Chapter 262 Sorry Grandpa_1

Zhang Yichen spent the whole night at the place he was staying, tangled in indecision. He didn’t know whether he should take the initiative to call and confess to his grandfather about the things he had kept from him. What would be the consequences of such an act? He didn’t know how his grandfather would react upon learning about the secrets withheld from him, and he certainly didn’t want any of this to happen. All he wanted was for his grandfather to live a happy life and for himself to have control over his own destiny.

As he pondered, the image of Zhihan appeared before his eyes. Whenever he saw Ran Zhihan’s smile, a smile would form on his lips as well, and he would seemingly radiate with joy.

On the other side, Ran Zhihan was also missing Zhang Yichen.

The next morning when Zhang Yichen got up, he immediately picked up his phone and called his grandfather. He had made up his mind that no matter what, he must not keep any secrets from his grandfather, as his grandfather would never do anything to hurt him. He should have complete trust in his grandfather and should not doubt him.

When he called Old Master Zhang, the old man hadn’t woken up yet. He had been worried that his grandson went to bed too late the night before, and with the busy work, he hadn’t had the chance to rest properly. Finally being able to sleep soundly, he was quickly roused by the vibrating phone, which he hurriedly picked up upon seeing his grandson’s caller ID. He was overjoyed, wondering if his grandson had some good news to share.

”Yichen, why are you up so early? Why don’t you get some more rest?” Old Master Zhang said with concern.

”Grandpa, aren’t you still in bed? I didn’t disturb your rest with my call, did I?”

”Silly boy, it’s only right for you to call your grandpa. I’m very happy to receive your call. Don’t be too busy, and remember to take care of yourself. Being alone over there, make sure you look after your health, remember to eat and not be picky with food. I will be waiting for you to return after finishing your business. I’ll have delicious food waiting for you here!”

Hearing Old Master Zhang showing concern for him, no matter when or where, and always worrying about him, Zhang Yichen suddenly felt he had been so bad. Why had he done such things? He couldn’t let his grandfather be sad anymore. He had to come clean about the secret; otherwise, how could he justify the love and careful guidance his grandfather had provided over the years?

”Grandpa, I called you this morning for two reasons. The first was to see if you were up yet and to wish you a good morning.” The second is that I have something to confess to you, and I hope it won’t make you angry!”

Old Master Zhang didn’t understand what his grandson had to confess, and why he was worried about angering him. Could it really be that serious?

”Alright, speak. I promise I won’t get angry at you!”

”Grandpa, I’m sorry, I’ve kept something from you. When I arrived in the United States to discuss business, I met a girl at the airport. Her silhouette was strikingly similar to the girl in my dreams, and I was moved by her. Right now, I’m extremely conflicted. I don’t know what to do. On one hand, there’s the girl of my dreams, and on the other, the woman I’ve just met and am smitten with. Grandpa, what should I do to avoid becoming a faithless man?” Yichen spoke, troubled.

Old Master Zhang, upon hearing what his grandson had said, was not angry but rather worried. He didn’t know whether the person his grandson had met was the bride he had previously arranged for him. He wondered whether this unpredictable turn of events would fall upon his own head.

”Yichen, do you know the girl’s name?”

”Grandpa, she said her name was Ran Zhihan. Do you know her?”

Old Master Zhang was so shocked by his own words that he could hardly process whether he knew the girl or not, and he instinctively said to his grandson, ”I don’t know her!”

”Alright, Grandpa, since you don’t know her, I won’t ask any more. But what should I do, Grandpa? I truly am taken with her. I think she’s a very kind girl. Just seeing her smile makes me very happy. Grandpa, if I choose to be with the girl I just met, would I become a faithless man? Because it would mean I have been unfaithful to the person in my dreams, having fallen in love with someone else while having amnesia. And if my memory returns, might I forget this woman? Grandpa, I really don’t know what to do. Please tell me, what should I do? Please show me the way!”

It suddenly dawned on Old Master Zhang that this might be destiny. Zhang Yichen had lost his memory and forgotten the original Ran Zhihan, only to meet Ran Zhihan again after his amnesia. Ran Zhihan, having been injured, had forgotten her previous encounters with Zhang Yichen, only to recognize the Zhang Yichen of the present.

”My child, this is a matter of your lifetime, and Grandpa shouldn’t interfere. If you truly love this girl, then choose to be with her. Grandpa will not oppose you. But I hope you will think it over carefully and not hurt both girls, because they are the most important people to you...”

”Grandpa, I understand now. I know what I should do next. I still feel I shouldn’t fall for someone when I’m in such a state of loss, because that would be hurting that person, and it would definitely be a hurt to myself as well. If one day I regain my memory, I might forget her, and that would deeply wound her, after she had developed feelings for me. That would be the real harm!”

”Child, make your own decision...”

Old Master Zhang hung up the phone and lay on his bed, sighing to himself: It seems all of this was predestined. Both of them were accidentally injured, fell down the cliff, and then lost their memories. They ended up in the same hospital for emergency treatment. When they were discharged, they brushed past each other at the hospital’s entrance without planning to meet, until now, when they met at the airport and fell for each other at first sight. Isn’t this fate? How could he tell me anything? It seems that this girl is destined to be my granddaughter-in-law. The more he thought about it, the happier he became. Yet, he was also worried; he didn’t know whether his thinking was right or wrong. Perhaps Yichen’s decision wasn’t wrong. If they had fallen for each other again in a state of loss, it was meant to be. But what if they fell head over heels for each other under these circumstances and then regained their memories, would they forget everything they did during the amnesia? He had to consider more for his grandson. He would rather be disliked by everyone than be selfish like others. He only hoped that his grandson could smoothly marry the bride he had chosen for him and bring him great-grandchildren...

”These young people’s affairs should be resolved by themselves. The older generation’s thinking should take a step back; it’s not right to use our outdated thoughts to dictate the path my grandson should take. Perhaps this is the best way I can help him,” Old Master Zhang muttered to himself.
