My Alleged Husband

Chapter 287: Chapter 267 Settling Accounts_1

Ever since Ran Zhihan fell off the cliff, everyone had been looking for her but to no avail. Xia Jing suspected that Ran Zhihan was not dead. This time she had come to the United States specifically to confirm her suspicion and had gone straight to Li Jiayuan and Xiao Wei’s house upon her arrival.

When Li Jiayuan saw Xia Jing, she had a bad feeling.

”Elder Sister Xia, why are you here? You haven’t been to the United States for so long, do you miss me?”

Xia Jing glanced at Li Jiayuan, ”Why I came here? Don’t you know? Why are you playing dumb with me here? Let’s cut to the chase, is she here with you?”

”I don’t understand who you’re talking about, Sister. There’s no ’her’ here. It’s just my son and my husband at home; we’re just a small family living our peaceful lives. What outsider are you talking about coming here...” Although Li Jiayuan knew exactly what Xia Jing was referring to, she refused to admit it, knowing that it wasn’t so simple and didn’t want Ran Zhihan to fall into Xia Jing’s vengeful trap.

”So, it seems you intend to keep this a secret to the very end. If that’s the case, there’s nothing more to say. If you insist on favoring her, unless you prevent me from finding her, if I do find her, she will have nowhere to be buried. I’ll leave you with those words,” Xia Jing said, preparing to leave. At that moment, Xiao Wei came down the stairs.

”Elder Sister Xia, you rarely come to visit our home, so don’t rush off like this. Why not sit down and talk things through? There’s no need to spoil our relationship,” Xiao Wei said, trying to make Xia Jing stay, not wanting her to jump to conclusions.

”So you are at home too. Then, does that mean you also know what your wife has done?” Xia Jing asked directly.

Xiao Wei looked bewildered as he countered, ”What my wife has done, I know everything? Has my wife done something that nobody knows about? Or are you suggesting she did something wrong by me and you’ve caught her in the act?”

”She hasn’t done anything to wrong you, but she has hidden the person I’ve been looking for. Do you think that counts as a serious matter?”

”Could the person Elder Sister Xia is referring to be Ran Zhihan?” Xiao Wei picked up the teacup in his hand, leisurely sipping the tea, and asked unhurriedly.

”So you all do know after all. In that case, just hand her over to me quickly. It’s not a solution to keep hiding her like this. After all, she is a living person, and there are certain things she must choose to face. Escaping is not a way to solve problems.” Xia Jing was getting a bit impatient, too. She just wanted to drag this person out and make her disappear forever. Why was it so difficult?

”Oh? Didn’t she fall off a cliff and become lost without a trace months ago? How come you’re now looking to my wife for someone, sister? Don’t go too far in what you do. It was clearly your fault, so how can you push the blame onto my wife? Could it be that you think my wife is easy to bully because she is kind? No matter how gentle she may be, she still has me. However people treat my wife, I’ll treat them the same way. Regardless of who they are, sister, it’s better to think twice before you act. Your temper hasn’t changed at all over the years, and it’s precisely because of this that you find yourself at a disadvantage so easily.” Xiao Wei retorted Xia Jing.

Xia Jing had not expected her brother to speak to her in such a tone; her heart was discomforted. She turned to Xiao Wei and said, ”From what you’re saying, you’re not planning to turn her over to me today. Since that’s the case, then we have nothing left to say. Don’t bother using familial niceties with me in the future. How could you qualify as my brother? I’ve always treated you as my own brother, but why do you treat me this way? You clearly know how much I hate that woman, and yet you’ve secretly hidden her from me, making her impossible for me to find. Do you think this is acceptable? So many people are looking for her day and night, but what about her? She is hiding out in the United States, living comfortably. Do you have no compassion at all? Don’t you know how much my son misses her? If you all claim to love my son, your nephew, so much, then why do you keep hiding the woman he loves from him, letting him search in vain, sinking into sorrow every day?”

”Sister, you said it yourself, your son cares deeply for this girl, but why are you still doing this? She has already lost her memory; aren’t you satisfied yet? She and your son have become strangers who pass by without recognition, what more do you want? Are you really set on driving her to her death? Sister, you should show mercy when you can, and it’s better to leave yourself a way out. By pushing her to the edge like this, do you really find it worthwhile? Even if she can’t become your daughter-in-law in this lifetime, after all, you can still be aunt and nephew. Why must you drive her to a dead end?” Xiao Wei said.

”Well, well, you finally admit it. You really did hide her away. Why would you do such a thing? What good does it do you? Is it worth it to ruin our sibling bond that has lasted so many years for an outsider? Does our many years of brother-sister affection in your eyes not outweigh the arrival of an outsider?” Xia Jing was truly heartbroken. She hadn’t expected the brother she cared for so many years to fall out with her over a stranger!

”Sister, I have explained all these truths to you so clearly. Why won’t you listen to my advice and just stop? Persisting in self-centered and willful behavior will bring you no good. Sister, you say that you regard me as your own brother, and I treat you just like my own sister, but why do you want to hurt your son’s fiancée? On their engagement day, you caused her to fall off the cliff. Do you understand how much harm that brought to your son? Yet, he never spoke a word about it. You all think he has lost his memory, but he always knows in his mind that all of this is related to his biological mother. But what can he do? He still swallows this bitter pill because you are his mother. Why won’t you wake up? Why can’t you consider things from your son’s perspective? Won’t your actions truly dishearten him? Sister, they say a mother worries when her child travels a thousand miles. As soon as your son leaves, you worry for him. But the daughter of a pair of parents has been away from them for so long, don’t you think they worry as parents too? One cannot be so selfish, focusing only on their own life, but also consider others’ difficulties. If you really don’t want her to be with your son, you could simply tell me. I would talk to them, and if need be, I’d tell her not to be with your son, right? Why do you need to resort to such outrageous actions to harm these two young people?”

”This has nothing to do with you...”
