My Alleged Husband

Chapter 286: Chapter 266 Reunion_1

Zhang Yichen was so furious with his dad, he didn’t want to stay here and argue with his father because he felt there was absolutely no need for it. Since he had made his decision, there would not be a day of regret, and even if there were a day of regret, he would definitely not beg for mercy. But he never anticipated that day would come so quickly and catch him completely off guard.

Today, Zhang Yichen had completely secured the American partnership deal. He was now preparing to book his flight back to the States. He felt that staying here was meaningless and just served to annoy him with his father’s constant harassment.

Cheerfully pulling his suitcase, he arrived at the American airport, and as before, he encountered Ran Zhihan.

”Little sister, I’m so happy to see you here again today. Are you returning to the States today?” Zhang Yichen couldn’t stop smiling. Just seeing this girl made him feel elated, even though she hadn’t had the chance to say anything.

”Yes, big brother, I’m going back to the States today. Are you preparing to return with your suitcase in tow?”

”Yes, I’ve wrapped up the American partnership deal and am heading back home tomorrow. Staying in America doesn’t make much sense anymore. It would be better to go back and spend time with Grandpa...”

Upon hearing Zhang Yichen’s words, Ran Zhihan thought: What a pity, I’ve finally met the man of my dreams, but now I have to go back to my country. If I hadn’t returned to the States, would I have been able to meet him in my country and spend more time with him? Why does fate have to play such tricks? Is it really amusing to do so?

Zhang Yichen noticed that Ran Zhihan was silent and thought to himself: Why does fate play such tricks? It took so long to meet the girl he yearned for, and now he had to return home, yet why did she have to come from home to the States? And why did he have to choose today, of all days, to decide to go back? Wouldn’t it be so much better if it hadn’t been like this? If he were to turn back now and say he wouldn’t go home, would it make her think he had a motive, and would that make her look down on him? He wondered if Ran Zhihan, staring at him motionlessly, might be pondering the same thoughts, and whether she also harbored feelings for him just as he did for her.

Zhang Yichen wanted to ask whether she had feelings for him, but he didn’t know how to broach the question because he felt that even if he did ask, it would only make things more awkward between them. Why not preserve this hard-earned friendship? Even if neither had confessed to the other, at least they each had a place in the other’s heart.

”I won’t keep you any longer; I need to catch my flight. If we’re destined, we’ll meet again. Take good care of Grandpa when you get back, so he doesn’t worry about you. After all, it’s natural for the elderly to worry a bit more!”

”Thank you. You really are a considerate and kind girl. Whoever is lucky enough to marry you is blessed indeed...”

”Until we meet again!”

Ran Zhihan had no sooner spoken than Zhang Yichen turned and walked away. Ran Zhihan watched his retreating figure, yearning to say, ”I don’t want someone else to take me home, nor do I wish to be with anyone else. I hope that one day you will take me home, I want to be your wife, but I don’t know if you feel the same!”

Clearly, both of them shared the same thoughts, and each harbored feelings for the other. Yet, they didn’t know how to express them. Perhaps it was through these trials that their bond would be solidified, so strong that no one could tear them apart.

When Zhang Yichen returned home, Old Master Zhang was pleasantly surprised to see his grandson. He hadn’t expected Yichen to return so soon. He had thought that Yichen, going on a business trip, would need at least ten days to half a month, but astonishingly, it only took three short days this time. It was beyond his belief that this was the efficiency with which his grandson operated.

”Grandpa, I’m back. How have you been while I was away? Have you been eating on time? Sleeping well? Did you miss your grandson?” Zhang Yichen asked with a smile.

”Of course, I did, certainly. You are my treasure, my eldest grandson. How could I not miss you? Rest assured, while you were gone, grandpa has been eating and sleeping on time every day, taking good care of himself. Grandpa has been waiting for you to return!”

”Grandpa, here I am, back home. Why do you still wear a frown instead of a smile? Come on, give me a smile. It’s been such a long time since I’ve seen Grandpa smile; it bothers me. It makes me feel like I’m not doing well enough, that it’s my fault Grandpa has lost his smile. Grandpa, do you really have the heart to see your cherished grandson unhappy?”

”How could you bear it? Grandpa would rather be unhappy himself than let his precious eldest grandson feel any sadness. You know very well how much Grandpa loves you!”

”Grandpa, you’re always the best to me!” Zhang Yichen hugged Old Master Zhang tightly.

”Alright, alright, as long as you’ve returned safe and sound, that’s what matters. You must be hungry by now. I’ll go make your favorite dishes; just wait!” Old Master Zhang said, then turned around, ready to get busy.

”Grandpa, hold on, don’t rush off to cook my favorite dishes. I have a question. What if I decide I don’t want my parents to ever return home? Would you miss them?”

He truly hadn’t anticipated his grandson to suddenly ask such a question, and he didn’t know how to respond. He had always believed that by persuading his son more, this matter could simply blow over. However, it seemed this time it wouldn’t be that simple. It appeared his son was adamant about not letting his parents come home; his input wouldn’t be helpful and might even exacerbate misunderstandings between them. If he said too much, could it make the situation worse?

”Child, this is a matter between you and your father. As your grandfather, it’s not my place to say too much, but I’ll repeat what I always say: think carefully before you act. Since you’ve made your decision, I won’t interfere. Just make sure you won’t regret it later. You should also consider your wife’s perspective. If you were married to the woman you love, would your actions cause her distress? Caught between her in-laws and her husband, she’d be in a difficult position. You must realize that the decisions you make will have consequences. Still, I can’t help but hope you will calm down and think it through because acting on impulse can lead to mistakes. Cherish what you’ve gained, as it has not come easily. Be cautious that others don’t easily destroy it.”
