My Alleged Husband

Chapter 288: Chapter 268 Lies_1

”Sister, good advice shouldn’t have to be repeated, yet I’ve said these things to you not once or twice, but countless times, and not once have you listened to me. You’re always so headstrong. Why can’t you just listen to what others have to say for once? Taking advice from others won’t hurt you. On the contrary, other people’s opinions can bring you a lot of unexpected things. Stop making those who love you sad!” Xiao Wei earnestly pleaded.

”I’ve told you, my affairs are none of your business. Why do you insist on meddling? Do you know how annoying you are to me? You say you’re my brother; so what? Does being my brother give you the right to interfere in my life like this? You accuse me of never considering others when I make decisions, but do you realize that I have reasons for doing what I do?”

When Xiao Wei heard his sister say she had her reasons, his heart suddenly softened. He wanted to know, what kind of reason could possibly make his sister act this way?

”You say you have your reasons, so I hope you’ll tell me. What kind of reasons could make you repeatedly do such outrageous things, hurting your own flesh and blood?” Xiao Wei spoke to Xia Jing, ”You’re not going to tell me that you’ve been diagnosed with some illness and don’t have much time left, are you?”

Xia Jing was actually lying to deceive her brother. Since Xiao Wei had already spoken so frankly, why wouldn’t she just go along with the words he had laid out?

”You’re right, I am sick. Before I came back this morning, I was already diagnosed with severe depression. If I don’t get proper treatment, I won’t have much time left,” she said.

Xiao Wei couldn’t help but feel a mix of amusement and disbelief; Xia Jing really had a way with words!

”If you had a terminal illness all along, why didn’t you tell us when you came back? If you really have such severe depression, you should have shown it on the day you returned, but you didn’t. You’re not lying to me, are you?”

Xia Jing was stunned by what her younger brother had just said. After all, she had no illness whatsoever. He said those things only to gain sympathy from everyone, to make everyone sacrifice for her, the supposed patient.

”Do you think I don’t want to tell you? But I just can’t say it. I don’t want everyone to worry about me. You all are the people I love most. How could I possibly let everyone worry about my illness? Wouldn’t that be too selfish?”

”Since you know that making everyone worry about your illness is selfish, don’t you realize that making your son lose his lifelong happiness because of you is also selfish? Sister, you understand many things. You just don’t want to admit that it’s the truth. You know there are many things that can’t be changed, that things are destined to develop in a certain way, but you still want to fight against fate. You don’t want to just let fate decide your happiness. Since you don’t want others to casually arrange your happiness, then why do you exhaust all means to arrange your son’s happiness? Don’t you realize that your son has inherited most of your personality traits? The things you dislike, he dislikes too. The principles you reject, he rejects as well. With so much in common, why do you still do things that hurt each other? Do you know that by repeatedly hurting him, you’re only going to make him feel repulsed by his own mother? Sister, I believe you see things more clearly than anyone else, but you just don’t dare to admit it’s the truth. Because you feel that once you admit it, you’ll lose everything. But it’s not like that. If you bravely accept the truth, you’ll gain more than you lose. Yet, you’ve always chosen to escape. I can’t be sure if you really have severe depression like you say. But I just want to know, no matter what, don’t lie to us who love you. Because doing so not only hurts our feelings but also causes everyone to lose faith in you due to that one lie. Sister, you must think carefully before acting. I can give you a chance now. Tell me honestly, do you really have depression?” Xiao Wei said to Xia Jing.

Xia Jing knew that since her words had reached this point today, there was no turning back, no other path to take. If she admitted that what she had just said was a lie, then she would lose her brother. So, she had no choice but to continue lying through her teeth.

”How could you doubt me? I’m your sister. How could I possibly deceive you? I was indeed diagnosed with severe depression. If it weren’t for that, how could I hurt my son over and over again? How could I feel so insecure, always looking for security in others? You may think I, as your sister, am basking in glory, but you’ll never understand how much pain I endure, how a shadow torments me every day. If it weren’t for this illness, why would I have pushed my son’s beloved woman off a cliff? Sometimes, when I recall that moment, I am terrified. I really can’t believe that I could do such a thing. I can’t believe I was so ruthless that I could destroy my own son’s lifelong happiness. But sometimes I have no choice but to accept that it’s the truth. When I have an episode, it’s unbearable. Whenever I fall ill, I become frantic, and I’ll do everything in my power to achieve my goals because it’s the only way to feel gratified. It’s precisely because of this that I’ve repeatedly hurt the people I love most and those who love me the most.”

”If you have such severe depression, why don’t you tell your son, or your father-in-law? Why do you need to keep it a secret and have me, your brother, cover for you?” Xiao Wei couldn’t understand why his sister would hide her illness.

”How can I tell you all? Would it really help if I did? If I told you, you would just worry about me even more and be more anxious about my condition. Actually, I’m not that unreasonable. It’s not that I don’t want to accept things, but in a state of illness, I don’t know how to accept. Whenever I’m struck by something, I feel like the whole world has betrayed me. I only think about revenge because I feel that only by seeking revenge can I numb myself, completely lose myself. The things I’m telling you today, I hope you won’t tell my son, and certainly not my father-in-law or my husband, because such a revelation would be too much for them to handle. They wouldn’t be able to bear it. I don’t want my son to acknowledge me as his mother only because I’m ill. If you still recognize me as your sister, then please keep this secret for me!”

After thinking, Xiao Wei spoke: ”Don’t worry. I will keep your secret! Just focus on getting better, alright?”
