My Alleged Husband

Chapter 270: Chapter 250 Lost Memory_1

As time ticked away, everyone stood outside the intensive care unit praying for this girl. They were beseeching the heavens to let her safely get through the critical period, to let her wake up and not say goodbye to this world like this. But does time really have sympathy? Will heaven really open its eyes?

Old Master Zhang and the police had been searching for Zhang Yichen at the foot of the mountain for an entire afternoon without finding him. They never gave up any hope, searching desperately at the base of the cliff. It wasn’t until late into the night that they found him, but by then, Zhang Yichen was unconscious and covered in blood, with multiple fractures.

Seeing his grandson so gravely injured, Elder Zhang was extremely worried. He hurriedly sent his grandson to the hospital, and coincidentally, it was the same hospital where Ran Zhihan was staying.

After being rushed into the emergency room, Zhang Yichen underwent several major surgeries. When he vaguely woke up, he had completely lost his memory. He felt like there was a familiar figure in his dream, and he reached out to grasp it, but no matter what, he couldn’t catch it. After waking up, he remembered no one but his grandfather.

”Yichen, you’re awake. Do you know how worried you’ve made your grandfather? You’re never allowed to be so willful again,” Old Master Zhang said to Zhang Yichen.

Seeing Xia Jing and Zhang Zhentian standing inside the ward, Zhang Yichen asked Old Master Zhang, ”Grandfather, who are those two? Why are they standing there looking at me? And their expressions don’t seem friendly at all, rather fierce. Could they be bad people?”

Hearing these words from his grandson, Old Master Zhang was stunned. No matter what, one wouldn’t forget who their parents were. So why did he only know his grandfather and forget that Xia Jing and Zhang Zhentian were his parents? He hurriedly ran out of the ward and into the doctor’s office to ask, ”Doctor, what’s wrong with my grandson? Why does he only remember me after waking up and forgets everyone else? His parents are standing right beside his hospital bed, yet he doesn’t know that they are his parents!”

”President Zhang, don’t worry too much. I’m not really sure how to explain this to you, but all I can say is that he previously suffered too great a shock, causing him constant depression. In addition, after falling down the cliff, he sustained a severe head injury, which led to a hemotoma, compressing his memory nerves and resulting in his current condition. He’s only chosen to forget the bad things. He has forgotten the people he least wants to remember, so that’s why these things are happening now. But no matter what, do not provoke him. Doing so will only worsen his condition. Whatever he wishes to do, you all must comply with him and not go against his will; otherwise, the one who ends up hurt will still be your grandson!”

Hearing the doctor’s explanation, Old Master Zhang finally understood. His grandson had suffered the biggest blow, leading to the current situation. He didn’t know whether to feel happy or sad because his grandson’s amnesia allowed him to escape past agonies, yet he also forgot the most important things.

Returning to the ward, Zhang Yichen spoke to Old Master Zhang, ”Grandfather, why haven’t I seen the girl I love the most? It seems like I faintly remember her figure in my dream. I tried to reach out and grab her, but no matter what, I can’t hold her tight in my hands. Can you tell me where she is now?”

Old Master Zhang hadn’t expected that his grandson would forget his own parents but not Ran Zhihan. He really didn’t know whether to feel happy or sad. Ran Zhihan, long before, had already fallen off the cliff, her life hanging by a thread. How could he tell his grandson this cruel truth? If he were to reveal this harsh reality, would it worsen his grandson’s condition even more?

Old Master Zhang deliberated for a long time, and he felt that he should put the cruel truth aside and tell his grandson later. He couldn’t let anything interfere with his grandson’s recovery.

”Don’t worry, she’s just gone abroad for some work right now. Once you’ve recovered, she’ll be able to come back. She’s very busy with her studies at the moment, so she might not have time to chat with you or come back to see you. You need to rest and heal properly, so you can present her with a lively and energetic Zhang Yichen when she returns!”

Zhang Yichen chose to believe his grandfather without any doubt.

On the other hand, Ran Zhihan had also woken up. After regaining consciousness, she had forgotten everything as well. She knew only that there was a void in her heart, a void of love. In her dreams, she saw the man she loved, but she couldn’t see his face, only a blurred silhouette. She wanted to reach out, to embrace him, but she always failed to touch him. She knew she was dreaming, and when she awoke, looking at the plain ceiling, she realized she was in a hospital. She didn’t understand why these strangers were standing outside her room, watching her.

”You’ve finally woken up. If you hadn’t come to, you might have never woken up again, but thank heavens, you are now awake. Do you know who you are?” the person who had rescued Ran Zhihan asked her.

Ran Zhihan shook her head and said, ”I’ve forgotten who I am. Why am I in a hospital? Did you save me?”

”You’re not wrong; indeed, it was us who saved you. We were playing on a very high cliff and saw you there. You were seriously injured, and we couldn’t bear to leave you in the wilderness, so we brought you to the hospital.”

One of them ran to find the attending doctor, and after asking, they found out not only had Ran Zhihan struck her head when she fell off the cliff, but she had also embraced a fatalistic attitude, jumping off the cliff in her heartbroken state. This led to her selective amnesia; she had forgotten all the bad things, remembering only a vague memory. Perhaps this memory would one day return, or perhaps it would be lost forever. The doctor told them that it was already remarkable that Ran Zhihan had woken up and that should she suffer any further trauma, she might never regain her memory.

”My friends, I was in a daze in my dream, remembering a man in front of me. I’m not sure what he looks like, but I know he’s someone important in my heart. Without him, I always feel an emptiness. I want to ask if any of you know where he might be?” Ran Zhihan inquired.

Everyone was taken aback by her question; they had not seen any man, knowing only that when they found her, the woman was on the verge of death.

”I’m sorry, we really don’t know who the person you’re talking about is. We only saw you by yourself under the cliff. However, I believe he must be searching for you everywhere. You just rest and heal here, and he will surely come to find you and take you home...”
