My Alleged Husband

Chapter 257: Chapter 237 Dispute Between Husband and Wife_1

Xia Jing had never expected her son to speak such harsh words to her. Had she really done something wrong? Was it wrong for a mother to love her son? Why couldn’t she ever receive a single word of praise in her son’s eyes?

”Why doesn’t he understand all I’ve done, and who it was for? Does he see me, his mother, as that despicable? Why does he always blame everything on me?” Xia Jing muttered to herself, thinking no one could hear her. However, she didn’t realize her husband, Zhang Zhentian, was standing right behind her.

”Now you understand what it feels like to never receive a word of praise for everything you’ve done, don’t you? He is your son. How much he must wish for his relationship with his loved one to be accepted in the eyes of his mother. But what did you do? You pushed his girlfriend towards a dead end time after time. How do you expect him to accept you as a mother? You think you’re showing him love, but in his eyes, he just feels hurt by you, an unending hurt. With such behavior from his mother and considering our son’s proud nature, do you think he would accept us as parents? Reflecting on our actions, even we can hardly believe we were capable of doing such things. I have finally understood that in moments of impulse, one truly can lose their reasoning!”

”What right do you have to speak to me now? Didn’t you support me when I did that? If you hadn’t shown support, I wouldn’t have acted so impulsively. I admit that, in that situation, I indeed lost my reasoning; I let hate blind me because I despised that girl. Without her, why would my son choose to not acknowledge me as his mother, time and time again? I blamed all the faults on that girl until, at the hospital, she pleaded for me, chose not to hold me legally responsible to avoid legal pursuit for the harm I inflicted on her. At that moment, I must admit, I truly wanted to accept her as my daughter-in-law. But only today have I realized that it was all wishful thinking on my part. She chose to forgive me on the surface while stabbing me in the back. You know as well as I do that there is nothing I hate more in this life than being stabbed in the back. If you’re unsatisfied, say it to my face. You could have me imprisoned, accept the punishment I deserve, but you cannot make secret plans against me. That’s something I cannot tolerate,” Xia Jing expressed her dissatisfaction, seeing Zhang Zhentian also had a hand in the matter, yet in the end, everyone put the blame on her alone, making her bear all the guilt.

”When will you ever calm down and think carefully? Think about the harm your actions could bring to your loved ones. Yes, she’s just a commoner now, but how can you be so sure she’ll still be a commoner in ten, twenty years? Even if she’s a commoner-born, who told you that commoners can’t climb into high society? You should be well aware that in the high society circles, many secure their footing through schemes, everyone thinking about how to calculate against each other, how to garner all benefits for themselves, how to ensure their benefits skyrocket, and at the same time, how to beat their opponents. It’s all calculation. But the daughter of a commoner is different; she relies on her own hands, her own efforts to enter high society. Don’t you think a girl like that deserves admiration? Doesn’t she deserve a perfect love?”

”I believe I’ve made myself very clear already. I don’t look down on her as the daughter of a commoner. On the contrary, I was almost ready to accept her. But why is it that just when I was about to accept her, rumors start to spread? Don’t you find that odd? If she hadn’t been stabbing me in the back, I could accept her as my daughter-in-law. But now, she speaks ill of me behind my back, stabs me in the back; then I can’t accept her. Why should such a woman of poor character be allowed to enter the Zhang Family doors? And why should she be with my son? My son is an economic king, and what is she? Just a commoner?”

”Are you still thinking our son, the economic king, is too good for a commoner’s daughter? Why can’t you understand that maybe what our son needs is precisely a commoner’s daughter? Perhaps in your opinion, a commoner’s daughter has no benefits, but for our son, she’s not just a benefit; she is the woman he loves the most. Just as when I used every means necessary to be with you, defying my father over and over again, my father who raised me for more than twenty years. If I could go against my own father, how else should I love you?”

Xia Jing was getting angry, ”What do you mean? Do I need a reason to love you? Isn’t loving me supposed to be a given? If you don’t love me, why are you with me? You better not be like your father; he agreed to our relationship only because I saved his company. So, he consented to us being together. Is that what you think in your heart too?”

Zhang Zhentian had not expected Xia Jing’s reaction to be so intense, and he found it difficult to accept. He was already on edge, confused and unsure how to resolve the current problem. Why didn’t his wife understand him at all, show him any consideration, or repeatedly touch his bottom line? He just couldn’t take it anymore, and he finally exploded.

”What do you mean? I’m going to make things clear to you today. If I didn’t love you, I wouldn’t have chosen to be with you in the first place. I wouldn’t have chosen to confront my father. I am with you not because you saved my dad’s company but because I love you. Do you think I agreed to be with you only after my dad’s company was involved? That’s not the case. Have some conscience. Don’t always think that everyone is out to stab you in the back. You haven’t investigated this matter thoroughly, so don’t randomly tarnish someone’s innocence. You know how important a person’s reputation is to them. She is now a commoner’s daughter, and by slandering her like this, I have nothing to say. But what if one day she really becomes your daughter-in-law? How will you face her then? When you have to see each other day in and day out under the same roof, how will you get along? Are you still going to feel that everything wrong was her doing? In fact, she is a very kindhearted girl. She doesn’t want much; she just hopes to have the marriage and happiness she desires. It’s that simple. Isn’t this something every woman should aspire to? If you can choose to have it, why can’t she?”

”I am me, and she is she. I choose to have happiness, and that is my right, which has nothing to do with her. She is not me, and I am not her, so please don’t confuse the two of us.”

”I will also make myself clear today. Starting from today, I will no longer be involved in any matters between you two. But remember, if such a thing happens again, please do not push any blame onto me because I am unaware and do not wish to know...”

Xia Jing had not expected that they, a couple who seldom argued, would fight so fiercely over an unrelated outsider.
