My Alleged Husband

Chapter 292: Chapter 272 Give me a way out!_1

”Actually, you don’t need to use such painstaking words to provoke me. They have no effect on me now. No matter what you say, I must divorce you today. Do you think that no matter how much I sacrifice for you, it will never earn me your kindness?”

”Zhang Zhentian, haven’t I, Xia Jing, been good enough to you?”

”Have you ever been good to me? Ask yourself, in all the years we’ve been married, when have you truly been kind to me? For you, I gave up on myself, on the happy family I could have had. For you, I abandoned the father who loved me most. For you, I gave up my right to inherit the company. For everything, I gave up everything for you, even abandoning my own son to seek the freedom you desired. It was for you that I hurt the woman my own son loved the most. But what about you? How have you treated me? Have you ever put yourself in my shoes, even for a moment? Have you ever considered what your loved ones need or care about? You just care about satisfying your own needs. You never think of others, of what they might need, or whether your decisions could make the people who love you wish they were dead. Don’t you know that the ones you can hurt the most aren’t those who don’t love you, but rather those who love you to the marrow of their bones? You’ve hurt your loved ones time and time again. Why should I keep you around to continue hurting me? Everyone knows that family affection can’t be bought with money, but in your eyes, you could forsake even that for your freedom. Do you think such a person is still fit to live with me?”

”So, you feel wronged by being with me and want to shake off the shackles early, to find a gentle, considerate girl who understands you? Can decades of marital affection be so fragile? Is it really necessary to make a big fuss over such a small lie?” Xia Jing expressed her dissatisfaction with the words Zhang Zhentian had said to her.

Zhang Zhentian had not expected that what he considered a significant issue would be seen as ”making a big fuss over a small matter” in the eyes of his wife. He could not accept it. The more he heard Xia Jing saying these words to him, the more he felt a fire in his heart. With no outlet for this inner fire, he felt he had to vent it through divorce.

”There’s no need to say anything more. My mind is made up. No matter what you say, it’s useless. This marriage is over!”

”Why? Just because of this one lie?”

”Do you still simply believe this was just a simple lie? If you had lied about something else, I could have forgiven you, could have chosen to endure it, but today’s lie is unbearable for me. I can’t stand my most beloved person using their own body, as a lie to deceive their own family. Don’t you think your actions today are a bit too much? How could you do this? If it wasn’t for me standing outside the door and hearing it, how long were you planning to keep it from me? If I hadn’t overheard, how would I have known you could be such a woman, one lie after another, I really want to know if there’s ever an end to your lies in your eyes. Don’t you find it exhausting to tell so many lies? You spit out some other lie, and I could endure it because I don’t care if those lies are true or false, I don’t care how much of what you say to me is true and how much is false, even if all of it were lies, I would still be willing to be deceived by you because I love you. But today you used your body to become a lie, and that I cannot accept!” Zhang Zhentian sighed as he spoke to Xia Jing. He truly could not bear his wife doing such a thing: ”Perhaps it’s time to end our decade-long marriage. It’s not easy to cut off so many years of mutual affection, but things have come to this point, and there’s no room left for salvage. What you’ve said is said, what you’ve done is done. Of course, I won’t pursue the past anymore, but as for the lie you told today, I really can’t forgive you. Perhaps divorce is the best solution for me, because only this way can give you the freedom you want, can let you pursue the happiness you might have had. You don’t need to waste your life’s happiness on a useless man like me. I’ve already given too much for you, I’ve also lost too much for you. I don’t want to lose my family in the second half of my life because of you. I don’t want my father, my son, nor my daughter-in-law to suffer any harm because of me. Let’s not talk about the past anymore. If you can agree quickly and amicably to a divorce, then we can still be friends when we meet in the future. If you can’t agree to a divorce swiftly, then we don’t even have to be strangers in the future...”

Xia Jing never expected Zhang Zhentian to be so resolute about asking for a divorce. No matter how she begged, he was unwilling to look back. What should she do? Did she really have to sign her name on the divorce agreement? Was she really ready to divorce the man she loved most and lose the marriage she had fought so hard for?

”I know I was wrong, please don’t abandon me, don’t leave me alone, without you, how can I live? Perhaps without me, you can live happily, but without you, it’s like having lost the entire world for me. What’s the point of living in this world without the ’entire world’? Just give me one more chance! I will definitely reform and not do those things I did before!”

”If only you had known this earlier, why did you do it in the first place? What happened, happened. Your pleas are useless to me; I am unsure whether what you say now is truth or lies. I don’t dare choose to trust you again because every time I trust you, it leaves me battered and bruised. Do you think the hurt you’ve caused me isn’t enough? I too have a soul, I too can feel pain, I too know heartache. Do you really find pleasure in seeing the man who loves you the most heartbroken because of you again? Is that what you think in your heart?”

No matter what Zhang Zhentian said, Xia Jing shook her head persistently. She didn’t know how on earth to plead so that her husband would forgive her. She didn’t want her marriage to be destroyed over a single lie. If she had known this day would come, she would have never spoken at all...

”Actually, there’s no need to cling to me like this. Leaving me is a relief for you too. Why make both of us unhappy over a lie? Only by doing this can you realize how grievous your mistake was this time, and understand that you should never lie to the people who are closest and dearest to you. Once the trust is broken, it can never be healed. Rest assured, I will tell Xiao Wei that your depression is completely cured. I won’t tell him you deceived him with a lie. I won’t let our divorce cause you to lose your brother... Let’s give each other a way out!” After finishing his words, Zhang Zhentian threw the divorce agreement on the table and turned to leave. Seeing her husband leaving their home, Xia Jing sat on the ground and started sobbing!
