My Alleged Husband

Chapter 281: Chapter 261: Falling in Love Again_1

Ran Zhihan watched as Zhang Yichen’s figure disappeared before her eyes, and she suddenly felt a bit reluctant to let him go. She didn’t understand why every time she saw this man, her heart would start pounding uncontrollably. Could it be that she was really starting to feel the stirrings of love?

How she wished she could encounter this man she had just met more often in the future. She felt that this man had an extraordinary way of speaking and was clearly a member of high society. She thought he was incredibly handsome, and she couldn’t understand why she felt a sense of familiarity and an inexplicable closeness to him. She was utterly confused—she had amnesia after all. Could it be that she had known this man before she lost her memory?

”If there really is a predestined relationship between us, then we will surely meet again in the future. I look forward to the day when I can meet you again. I wonder if you will still remember who I am when we meet again...” Ran Zhihan muttered to herself at the airport.

After leaving, he had a second thought, turned back, and looked at Ran Zhihan. He, just like Ran Zhihan, felt that he must have known this girl before, or else why did he feel such a familial bond upon seeing her? This feeling doesn’t just come out of nowhere; something must have happened in the past. But why couldn’t he remember anything? He suddenly felt that it was particularly unfortunate to have lost his memory.

At that moment, Zhang Yichen fervently wished that fate would be kind to him, allowing him to immediately regain his lost memories. He was looking forward to reuniting with his beloved, as well as finding the silhouette that haunted his dreams. He was always waiting, awaiting the serendipitous moment, the day his memory would return, but why was that day taking so long to arrive?

”Little sister, perhaps you don’t know, but from the first moment I saw you, I was deeply moved. My heart has already been occupied by you. Will we meet again in the future? Now that we are worlds apart, I am waiting to meet you again. Are you, like me, also waiting for our reunion?”

Old Master Zhang in the Zhang Family had no idea that his grandson had just encountered his predestined bride-to-be on his way to the United States. He was always waiting for his grandson to smoothly bring home the granddaughter-in-law he had lost. But would Heaven grant Old Master Zhang’s wish?

Zhang Yichen did not tell Elder Zhang about the person he had met at the airport, nor did he confide in his grandfather about what he was really thinking. He felt there was no need to report these things to his grandfather; he believed he was an adult and should be in charge of his own affairs. When he saw Ran Zhihan, he was indeed moved, but now he felt incredibly conflicted. He didn’t know what to do. On the one hand was the girl in his dreams, and on the other, the girl who had just stolen his heart. He felt that no matter what he did, he would be letting one of them down...

After arriving in the United States, Yichen forgot to call Elder Zhang to check in. Elder Zhang waited all night and didn’t receive the anticipated call from his grandson, which made him worried. He hurriedly got up and called his grandson.

When Yichen saw the caller ID showing it was his grandfather, he answered the call and said to Elder Zhang, ”Grandpa, why are you calling me? Do you miss me?”

Old Master Zhang was thrilled to hear his grandson addressing him; he felt relieved after all his unnecessary worry. He had been truly concerned that something might have happened to his grandson. What would he do if his grandson were harmed in any way? How could he continue living?

”You really are a Forgetful King, aren’t you? Have you forgotten what your grandfather told you when you left? Didn’t I say you should call me when you arrived at your destination to let me know you’re safe? I’ve been waiting for so long, why didn’t you call me? Did something happen?” Elder Zhang asked anxiously.

”Granddad, you’re overthinking it. I’m a grown man; what could possibly happen to me? It was just that something came up and delayed me. Besides, I’m here to do business, and as soon as I arrived, I got busy and forgot to call you with an update, making you worry,” Yichen said.

Old Master Zhang felt that his grandson was hiding something from him, as something seemed off about the way Yichen spoke to him. He was eager to know what it was that made his grandson choose to keep secrets from him. For all these years, Yichen had never hidden anything from him, and this was the first time. Could it be related to him, or had Yichen met someone?

”Yichen, are you keeping something from Granddad? Why do I feel there’s something odd about the way you’re talking to me? If there’s anything, you must tell me. You know very well the relationship between us over the years,” Old Master Zhang said to Zhang Yichen.

Zhang Yichen hadn’t expected his grandfather’s intuition to be so sharp, which made him feel even more that he couldn’t disclose the matter to his grandfather.

”Granddad, you’re really overthinking it. There’s truly nothing I haven’t told you about. It’s getting late; you should rest. Don’t worry about me. Once I wrap up the business here, I’ll choose to return home and stay by your side. Take good care of yourself during this time and don’t overwork yourself,” Yichen reassured.

”Alright, then you should also rest early!”

That was how their phone call ended. After hanging up, Zhang Yichen still felt uneasy, but this unease stemmed from a guilty conscience. For years his grandfather had treated him with utmost kindness, reserving every good thing for him. His grandfather would refrain from indulging himself and chose to give everything to Yichen. But what about him? Why was he hiding these things from his grandfather? Could telling his grandfather possibly cause him harm? His heart was in turmoil; he didn’t know what to do. He wanted to be the master of his own life, yet he couldn’t be unfilial and let his grandfather’s sacrifices result in his repeated dishonesty. He felt that if one day his grandfather found out he was hiding something—and something he deliberately chose not to reveal—how heartbroken his grandfather would be. He couldn’t let that happen. He couldn’t let his self-sacrificing grandfather feel sorrow because of his selfishness, nor could he allow the one who loved him most to suffer again because of his emotions. He knew what had happened before his amnesia, but he chose not to speak of it, perhaps as a way to escape the past. Although he vaguely remembered some events from before his memory loss, he had completely forgotten the woman he loved. He didn’t recognize the silhouette recurring in his dreams, the one he always wanted to grasp, the one he felt was missing deep in his heart.
