My Alleged Husband

Chapter 268: Chapter 248: A Martyr to Love, Part 1

Old Master Zhang saw his grandson run out, and suddenly, a bad premonition flooded his mind. They saw their grandson, his face utterly devoid of color, rushing out—the situation was definitely not going to be good.

”What are you two standing around for? Go after your son right now! Do you really want to see him get into an accident?” Old Master Zhang roared at Zhang Zhentian and Xia Jing. The root of the issue was with the pair of them, and yet they were unwilling to chase after their own son, which caused him, as a grandfather, immense heartache.

”I’ll go after him right away. You stay here, just sit down and don’t wander off, and wait for me to come back!”

Having said this to his father, Zhang Zhentian turned and dashed out. He too had a bad premonition. He didn’t want his son to suffer any harm because of him—if that were the case, he would never forgive himself for the rest of his life.

Zhang Yichen quickly drove to the place where the woman he loved had fallen off a cliff.

Zhang Zhentian desperately chased after him, chased with all his might, but he could not match the speed of his son. He knew he had truly angered his most beloved son; Zhang Yichen’s driving speed had reached its maximum.

After ten minutes, Zhang Zhentian finally caught up with his son. He saw that they were at the location where Ran Zhihan had fallen off the cliff, and his disquiet grew even more severe.

”Yichen, listen to dad. Don’t be impulsive, come over here. The place you’re standing is too dangerous. Come here, and we can talk everything over, alright?” Zhang Zhentian begged; he didn’t want his son to lose his precious life over a fleeting mistake.

”Do you actually care about whether I live or die?”

”Silly boy, you’re my son. How could I possibly not care about your life or death? I’d rather endure torture myself than see you get hurt. Why can’t you understand a father’s painstaking care?”

”Just because I’m your son, you care about my status. But because my girlfriend isn’t your daughter, you wouldn’t care about her life, would you? How can you be so selfish? I’ve only now truly discovered, you aren’t as selfish as I thought, you’re even more selfish than I could have imagined. How many people have suffered because of your selfishness, causing me to lose happiness for a lifetime? Aren’t you still satisfied? Is my happiness so trivial in your eyes? I don’t ask for much, just hoping that my parents and the woman I love can stay by my side, and I can see my parents happy and content every day and night, living peacefully together with my girlfriend. That would be enough for me. But what about you? What are you thinking? All you think about is how to gain the most benefit, how to hurt my girlfriend, how to deal with your own son, right? They say parents’ hearts are most pitiable, but I really don’t know what kind of heart you, as parents, have. Do you truly hope that your son lives happily for a lifetime, or do you want me to suffer? Do you know what it was like when I saw her push the love of my life down the cliff? At that moment, I knew our relationship could never be repaired. Her actions caused me to completely lose Zhihan. I once naively thought that forgiving all your mistakes for the sake of love could earn your sincere blessings. But I was wrong; that idea was flawed from the start. How could such cruel people possibly bless us for our forgiveness? In your eyes, only your interests are paramount, and my happiness doesn’t matter at all to you!”

Zhang Zhentian had not expected his son to utter such harsh words. He couldn’t believe these were the words of his son.

”Yichen, how can you speak like this about your mother and me? Even if we really have made too many mistakes, we know how to repent, isn’t that the greatest change of all? In your eyes, as long as we have done wrong, no matter what we turn into, is it all invisible to you? Do you know? Your mother and I, we have sacrificed so much just so you could lead a happy and joyful life. But you, do you just turn a blind eye to it all?” Zhang Zhentian said to Zhang Yichen.

Zhang Yichen found it extremely funny, so his dad had always been so narcissistic?

”You are wrong, it’s not that I’m oblivious to your efforts, it’s you who are oblivious to the relationship between him and me. You always assume that as long as you make a decision, we should just comply with your views, but you never once considered what I truly need. You don’t understand my happiness, so how can I live a blissful life forever? How I wish that when you make decisions, you could consider things from the perspective of being a son, then I would be utterly grateful, thanking heaven and earth, but you never did. Is it that we can only follow whatever decisions you make without question...”

”Son, don’t be rash, come here first, we can talk things over slowly, alright? Maybe once we’ve talked it through, you won’t feel the same way anymore!” Zhang Zhentian still hoped to call his son over to him.

”Dad, I believe I have said all that should be said between us, and today I’m going to tell you that I will die alongside the woman I love. I don’t want to live alone in this world, it’s just too cruel for me. To watch the woman I love die before my eyes, and to be powerless, do you know that feeling of helplessness? I don’t want to experience that pain and helplessness once again, so the only option I have is to join her. Only by doing this can you finally be at ease, and not harm any good family’s child because of me. You are my biological father, when you and mom were together initially, I believe you went through many reluctant decisions due to Grandpa’s opposition, so I believe you understand that feeling. Would you have the heart to let me, your son, experience what you went through? Do you know? The pain I feel now is tenfold, a hundredfold, a thousandfold worse than what you felt because at least, in the end, you were able to live with my mom. But me? I don’t even have the chance to live with the woman I love, do you know how much my heart aches? Yet, I have to keep silent because I am a man, a man who stands tall and proud, I am an emperor of the world economy, I cannot allow everyone to look down on me, I cannot allow everyone to despise me, I can only choose to be seen as someone everyone supports, to continue with my work because I believe, one day, everyone will see the effort I’ve put into my work and agree with me. But now, I’m tired, I need a good rest...”

After Zhang Yichen finished speaking, he slowly backed away towards the cliff behind him, he was going to jump off.

Zhang Zhentian panicked, looking at the endless cliff behind him, he was afraid.

”Don’t be impulsive...”

”Please, take good care of Grandpa, don’t let him get hurt anymore because of your relationship, I beg you...”

With those words, Zhang Yichen jumped off.

”Yichen...”
