My Alleged Husband

Chapter 276: Chapter 256 Each Has Their Own Destiny_1

”Grandpa, why are you here?” Lei Jian addressed Old Master Zhang.

Seeing that Lei Jian recognized Old Master Zhang, Ran Zhihan felt a bit puzzled. Why didn’t she recognize her own grandfather standing before her? She only felt that this elderly gentleman was very familiar, yet she couldn’t recall who he was.

”Zhihan, go take care of the discharge procedures first. I’ll come find you later!” Lei Jian instructed.

Ran Zhihan nodded and then left.

”Jian’er, why are you with Zhihan? What exactly has happened in between? Tell me quickly.”

”Grandpa, it’s not that I don’t want to tell you, but after much deliberation, I made the decision that I can’t tell you about this matter!”

”Why not? She has long been designated as my granddaughter-in-law. Shouldn’t you tell me if something has happened to her?” Elder Zhang didn’t understand what Lei Jian’s intentions were.

”Grandpa, you must be very curious why she is with me, right? Well, I’ll tell you now. Do you know where I found her? If it hadn’t been for me playing near the cliff that day, I would never have been able to get her to the hospital. If she hadn’t been brought to the hospital that day, you would have already lost your designated granddaughter-in-law. Grandpa, I don’t understand what kind of things are happening in your family. What could possibly make her attempt suicide by jumping off a cliff? Do you know how much harm that does to her? How much pain it causes a girl? Do you understand that because of her fall from the cliff, she almost lost the ability to become a mother for life? How can you be so cruel?”

Old Master Zhang was baffled; he didn’t understand the meaning of Lei Jian’s words.

”Jian’er, clarify what you’re saying. What do you mean she almost lost the ability to become a mother forever? Did she sustain serious injuries from falling off the cliff?”

”Grandpa, it’s very clear and I understand that you’ve always hoped she could become your granddaughter-in-law, and I know that you’ve been supporting her behind the scenes. In order to make her more suitable for Zhang Yichen, you chose to fund her studies in the United States. There are a lot of things that I don’t know, and as an outsider, I shouldn’t be saying these things, but do you know how much she suffered while studying in the United States? The harm I know of and witnessed wasn’t just once or twice, yet she endured it all for the sake of your grandson. What I don’t understand is, after all the years she’s sacrificed, even willing to give up her own life, why did she still end up so hurt in the end? Grandpa, in your heart, you know very well what she has gained and lost by being with your grandson. After her fall from the cliff, the doctors managed to save her and informed us: she has amnesia! My two brothers and I felt that this was an excellent opportunity. Since fate had chosen for her to lose her memory, it should allow her to experience her love life anew and let her choose which path she would take in the future. That’s why we three brothers decided not to tell anyone about this. Even my parents don’t know. Grandpa, if you truly care for this granddaughter-in-law in your heart, then I hope you won’t tell anyone you’ve seen her, as this will only bring her more harm. I believe auntie will not let her off easily. Auntie was capable of pushing her off the cliff; she must have other means as well. Grandpa, our common goal is to protect her. I believe making such a choice will be opposed by you, and I also believe that you’d want to give them another chance together. If they still fall in love with each other after losing their memories and choose one another, then it only proves they are truly meant to be, and no one can separate them. However, if they don’t choose to fall in love with each other while amnesic, then I hope you will let go of Zhihan and not let her return to your family to continue suffering.”

Old Master Zhang felt that Lei Jian made a lot of sense. In his heart, he also didn’t want his beloved granddaughter-in-law to be hurt again. If he could ensure his heart’s granddaughter-in-law lived a safe and happy life, why wouldn’t he be willing to do so? Why seek so much displeasure to hurt his new granddaughter-in-law within?

”Well, since you put it that way, I’ll agree to your request. I won’t tell anyone that I’ve seen her here, but there’s one thing I still hope you can understand. After Yichen woke up from his coma, he’s been constantly looking for Ran Zhihan. I don’t want you to stop them from meeting each other!”

”Grandpa, rest assured, I treat Zhihan as if she were my own sister. I won’t stop her from seeking her love. I’m doing this only to prevent her from getting hurt anymore. You can understand my intentions. We’re allies now, there’s no need to tell me these useless things. If you truly care about her, then take care of auntie, don’t let her keep hurting her recklessly. She can’t bear any more damage...”

Old Master Zhang didn’t say a word after hearing this and turned to leave. He hadn’t realized that all this wasn’t simply a family matter; many people knew that it wasn’t a case of suicide by jumping off a cliff but that his future mother-in-law intended to harm his daughter-in-law.

At that moment, Old Master Zhang felt that maybe the two of them had their own destinies. If they were fated, they would eventually love each other. If it was fated not to be, his insistence would be futile. He didn’t want the girl he had always liked to get hurt again. She had already been hurt more than once because of his grandson, and if she were to be harmed again and again because of his family, his conscience wouldn’t be at peace.

”My dear grandson, if you really want to be with this girl in your heart, then you must make an effort. She has now lost her memory completely, just like you. She doesn’t recognize you or know who you are, so you can only rely on your own efforts to make her fall in love with you again, to choose to have a marriage with you. Only then can the two of you be together for a lifetime. If you can’t make her fall in love with you again, then you truly will have no chance...” Old Master Zhang said silently to himself.

He believed that if two people genuinely loved each other, they would fall in love again no matter how far apart they were. If these two people were destined to be apart, even if they had loved each other profoundly, they would forget each other after experiencing pain and separation. Regardless, he still hoped that his grandson would be able to love this girl, because he had always been waiting to hold the son of Ran Zhihan and Zhang Yichen.

After Old Master Zhang returned to the Zhang family house, he saw that everything had been tidied up properly. He knew it was all done by his grandson. He now didn’t understand whether he should let his son and daughter-in-law come back home because all these troubles were caused by their relationship, leaving him as conflicted as his grandson.

”Yichen, do you miss your parents?” Old Master Zhang tentatively asked.

Zhang Yichen didn’t understand what his grandfather was implying and said, ”Grandpa, I don’t miss my mom and dad now. They haven’t been by my side all these years; in my heart, they have already faded away!”
