My Alleged Husband

Chapter 200: Chapter 180 Yichen, Don’t be Like This!_2

No matter what, Auntie is still your biological mother. Even if they never raised you, even if they abandoned you, they gave you life. Perhaps you have come to hate them deep in your bones over the years, but I hope you can understand that for a mother, not being invited to her own son’s wedding is a very painful experience. Your parents consider your marriage to be a significant event. No matter what he has done or said to me, I want you to know that your parents truly love you. In their hearts, you are their precious son. Perhaps they do not fully approve of our marriage, but you should understand that your parents have no ill intentions. They just don’t know how to express their love for you. You have already been without your parents’ love for twenty years, do you still want to go without it for a lifetime? I believe that’s not what you want in your heart, and it’s certainly not what I want to see. Your grandfather is already so old; he can’t bear this anymore. Even if you do it for your grandfather, you should let your parents come back home because only then can your grandfather truly have peace of mind in his twilight years without worrying about his son being bullied outside. For a father, the most important thing is how his son is and whether his life is good. He doesn’t care what his son has done to him. Do you understand what I mean?” Ran Zhihan said, trying to persuade him.

”To be honest, if anyone else said these words to me today, I would’ve exploded with anger. But because you’re my dearest girl, I can’t bear to lash out at you. However, I hope you can also see things from my perspective. Yes, I admit I do need my parents’ love. But I don’t want my parents to just come back and start influencing my decisions. They’ve been absent from nearly twenty years of my life. Why should they get involved in my decisions as soon as they come back? Is that fair to me?”

”I understand how you feel, but I can’t stand to see you in pain because you can’t recognize your parents after they return. Do you know that? Even if no one else understands you, I do. I know that actually, you really hope your parents come back; you long for their love. But you can’t put down your own self-respect and face. It’s been twenty years; that’s not a small number, and it’s not a short time. So it’s normal for you to have some dissatisfaction. But Yichen, I hope you understand, okay? If we are together without the blessing of your parents, do you think our marriage could be happy? If we’re together and your parents refuse to accept us, always trying to break us up, do you think we can live like that for long? Can we be together for a lifetime? I don’t know how else to say it to you, but I hope you can consider it from my perspective. What I need is the blessing of both sets of parents, not just my own. Do you understand that if your parents don’t approve of our marriage, we can’t be together, because they will do everything they can to break us up, and I can’t predict what will happen then. Are you willing to see something like that happen right before our eyes?”

Zhang Yichen was rendered speechless by what Ran Zhihan said. Indeed, is this the result he really wanted? But to forgive his parents who had abandoned him for so long in such a short time, he really couldn’t do it. Zhang Yichen knew how important his self-respect was to him. Without his pride, could he have ever turned his father away from his door? But now that he had made such a decision because of his self-respect, how could he possibly turn back?

”I know you’re saying this for my good, but it’s impossible for me to just accept my parents in a short time. It’s not for any other reason, but because I truly hate them. I admit my pride is at play, but I hope you can understand too. Since my self-respect led me to make that decision, I won’t turn back now because if I do, I’ll be abandoning the self-respect I’ve always held in such high regard. Maybe you don’t know, but in the past, I was ridiculed and insulted, pointed at and called the child who was unwanted by his parents. Do you understand? That feeling was really unbearable. Since then, my self-respect has become very strong. I would not allow anyone to say that about me. That’s why I had to build my own empire, to have everyone bow down before me.”

”Yichen, please don’t be like this, okay? This side of you is a bit scary to me. You are the older brother I’ve been waiting for, for ten long years. Can you bear to see me waiting for you for so long, only to end up not being able to be together?” Ran Zhihan said through her tears.

”Don’t cry. Let me think about it. But to decide in such a short time to forgive them is really hard. I hope you can also consider my perspective. In my heart, you have always been a good girl, always understanding and considerate of others. So I hope you can think about this from my position, okay?”

”Okay, then take your time to think about it. I won’t press you. No matter what decision you ultimately make, I will support you unconditionally. I just hope your decision won’t leave you with regrets. Even if the road ahead is hard, I will never give up on you, and I will walk with you side by side forever!”

”Thank you, Zhihan!”

Zhang Yichen felt truly comforted upon hearing these words from Ran Zhihan—words that even his grandfather, who had raised him for so long, could never say. Now, the girl he had been waiting for ten years said them to him. How could he not feel happy? How could he not feel comforted?
