My Alleged Husband

Chapter 176: Chapter 160: Three Children!_1

After Old Master Zhang and Zhang Yichen returned to the Zhang Family from the exit of the valley, Aunt Xu brought Yichen his favorite dishes. Seeing all his favorites in front of him, he smiled and gave Aunt Xu a gentle hug, saying, ”Aunt Xu, thank you. Thank you for taking care of me for the past ten years. It’s a shame my parents aren’t here, but you’ve been like a mother and father to me. In my heart, you’re like my godmother. I’m very grateful for all the care you’ve shown me these past ten years. Please sit down and join me, don’t stand there!”

Aunt Xu was a bit overwhelmed by this treatment. She hadn’t expected Zhang Yichen to speak to her in such a tone. Although she had been treated like this before, the young master had never spoken to her this way. Hearing Zhang Yichen say she was like his godmother, her heart swelled with happiness, almost leaping for joy. She had no son of her own and had always regarded Zhang Yichen as if he were her own child. Little did she know that her heartfelt wishes would come true, granting her a godson. She felt that she could now die without regrets.

”Young master, you shouldn’t say such things to me. I can’t handle it,” Aunt Xu said, flustered. ”I’m just a nanny. How could I be your godmother? Please, just regard me as your nanny.”

Yichen smiled. He truly hadn’t expected Aunt Xu, after a decade together, to still be so reserved. He knew she had no children of her own and considered him her son, so he felt no embarrassment. He said to Aunt Xu, ”Aunt Xu, don’t be so formal with me. Over the years, you’ve taken such good care of me. Even if there’s no merit, there’s hard work. Isn’t welcoming you as my godmother a good thing? Besides, you have no children. I can provide for you in your old age. Please consider me as your own son. Otherwise, wouldn’t your years of care be in vain? Even though I know you took care of me with no thought of reward—because I am so adorable after all—I still hope you will agree to have me as your godson!”

Zhang Yichen and Aunt Xu went back and forth with their conversation, but ultimately Aunt Xu couldn’t resist him and agreed.

The United States!

Li Jiayuan and Xiao Wei had been living in the United States for ten years now. Here, he had seen how happy his family could be. Their three sons, with Nian Jun being three years older than his two younger brothers, had been acting responsibly as the eldest should. He would always give in to his mischievous younger brothers, who loved to argue with him. But Nian Jun felt this was happiness because he believed that their small quarrels meant they would be very close to each other someday, very close. The three of them were very happy. Li Jiayuan and Xiao Wei would watch their sons argue back and forth every day and feel speechless, but for the children, this was their joy!

Xiao Wei slowly approached Li Jiayuan from behind, gently embracing her. He said to her, ”Wife, do you still regret coming to the United States with me? Look, if it weren’t for us moving here, how could we witness such a harmonious scene among the three brothers today? Don’t you think our son is really great? The eldest has fulfilled his responsibilities, and although the younger two are quite mischievous, they both really care for their older brother. Such brotherhood is what true kinship is about. Blood ties are such a strange thing; had it not been for their blood relation, perhaps their bond wouldn’t have been this strong. How about we give them another sister?”

When Li Jiayuan heard what Xiao Wei said, she was stunned, her muscles tensing up instantly. What? Have another sister? No, please spare me!

Xiao Wei felt Li Jiayuan’s bodily reaction and chuckled. He said to her indulgently, ”Okay, wife, I was just joking. We already have three sons, and that’s enough for me. Thank you for giving birth to such adorable children for me, thank you for enduring so much pain for my sake, thank you for leaving your hometown for me. I love you with all my heart, and we will be together for life. If you want to return to our home country, just tell me, and we can take a flight back. It’s been a long time since I’ve been back too!”

Hearing Xiao Wei comfort her like this, Li Jiayuan knew that he was trying to console her. How could she continue to act on a whim? She had now become the mother of a family; she should demonstrate the demeanor befitting the lady of the house, rather than behaving as capriciously as before. Every decision she made now had to consider her children, and she could no longer be selfish. Such behavior could hurt the people she loved or those who loved her. She had finally understood what true love really was: it wasn’t about wandering around together, it was about a family being able to live together peacefully. That was the joy of life. Without this most basic happiness, what right did you have to talk about love with others?

”Husband, there’s no need, I’ve already gotten used to life in the United States. Besides, apart from missing our nephew back home, haven’t we met up with my sister and brother-in-law? Look at them, traveling the world and living a happy life. It’s just sad for our little nephew; just one month old and he’s been heartlessly abandoned in our home country. Who knows if he will grow up to hate his parents?”

As Li Jiayuan said this, Xiao Wei also remembered. ”Indeed, a child only a month old abandoned by his parents. If he grows up without resenting them, that would be impossible. But since my sister and brother-in-law have chosen this path, it is their family affair. We shouldn’t interfere in their business. We can’t be sure about these things now. Maybe one day when his parents come back, he will no longer harbor any resentment. You know, lacking parental love is a very painful thing. I never imagined that my own nephew would endure the same pain as I did. I really don’t understand what my sister is thinking; she’s an orphan herself. She knows the loneliness in an orphan’s heart. How could she allow her own son to experience the same pain?”

Li Jiayuan sighed and said to Xiao Wei, ”Yeah, it’s hard to understand what parents are thinking these days. Luckily, our children don’t have to endure such things. Otherwise, I couldn’t even forgive myself for the harm I would’ve caused to my own children. If my children chose to hate me for a lifetime because I abandoned them, I could only choose to accept it gracefully because it was all my choice. Since I made that choice, I must be prepared to kneel and walk to the end of the road, even if there’s no path left.”
