My Alleged Husband

Chapter 161: Chapter 145 Argument Between Father and Daughter_1

Li Jiayuan watched Xiao Wei’s retreating figure, wanting to call out and ask him to stay, but in that moment, she didn’t know what to say.

As Xiao Wei was leaving, he too felt a tinge of sorrow. When would he no longer be looked down upon by others? Why, even with his considerable achievements, did they still disdain him? Could money really make the world go around? Although society can’t function without money, money isn’t everything. Yet without it, one can hardly do anything. Should a single word ”money” dictate a person’s character, their entire life? Why does no one see the good in him? In what way is he lacking to them? Sometimes, he truly couldn’t understand the human heart!

Li Haixiao came downstairs and said to Li Jiayuan, ”Jiayuan, this was dad’s fault, I didn’t think it through. But I really didn’t mean to look down on him, please believe that.”

Li Jiayuan smiled and said to Li Haixiao, ”Dad, do you really not look down on him? I was there too, I heard everything you said, do you know how hurtful your words were? You know how strong Xiao Wei’s pride is, yet you still said such things to hurt him. In your eyes, do you even consider him your son-in-law? He is still my husband! Even if you don’t think for yourself, shouldn’t you at least think about Nian Jun? If one day Nian Jun grows up and knows that his father was always spoken about like this by you, do you think he would feel okay about it, still consider you the grandfather he admires the most? When you do something, can’t you put yourself in others’ shoes? He has parents too. When you speak of him like that, wouldn’t his parents, even if they are six feet under, feel the pain? If someone said I was ill-bred because my own parents didn’t raise me well, would you be okay hearing that? I really don’t understand how you can think like this. Money can buy many material things, but it cannot buy the feelings and trust between two people. My relationship with Xiao Wei isn’t measured by money. I really want to ask you, now all you see is money, but if one day someone offers me millions to relinquish my filial affection for you, and I choose the money over our father-daughter relationship, would you still think money is important? Then you’ll be left with nothing, wouldn’t that make you unhappy? Honestly, I don’t want to die clutching my wealth rather than the feelings and trust I have with him. I don’t want to say anything else, I just wanted to tell you my thoughts, I hope you think more carefully before acting, and not look down on anyone!”

Li Haixiao was angered by Li Jiayuan’s words and yelled at her, ”Li Jiayuan, what do you mean by that? Is that how you talk to your father? I already apologized to you, I was wrong, I shouldn’t have said those things about him, but the fact is, he is an orphan, I wasn’t wrong about that! The way he spoke to me shows that his parents didn’t raise him well, was I wrong about that?”

Li Jiayuan was also getting angry, replying to Li Haixiao, ”Do you realize, so many times when Xiao Wei and I argue, it’s because of you. A year ago, you had a business deal, and to secure that deal, I fought with him till we were blue in the face, eventually driving him away to the United States on his own, causing us to be apart for a year. He couldn’t even be by my side when I was giving birth. And now, because you called him an orphan with no upbringing, I’m arguing with him again. Do you enjoy it when we don’t fight, or do you hope that our arguments will drive us apart?”

”I didn’t mean that, but since you said so, I’ll tell you the truth. Yes, I look down on him, I do despise him for being poor. He is an orphan, he’s ill-bred. His own parents gave birth to him and didn’t take care of him. Not to mention anything else, the tone he used when speaking to me showed his lack of upbringing. He has no manners, thinks he’s something special because he has some dirty money. When I had money in the past, he was probably nowhere to be found. Now that he has some money, he thinks he can rise above it all and step over me, is that possible? I really don’t understand how young people think nowadays. And you, don’t think I have no way of dealing with you just because you’re with him. If you ever go too far and infuriate me, I will not hesitate to tear you and him apart, and then don’t blame me for being heartless.”

”Oh, it seems you’ve been planning this all along, wanting to break me and him up. You used to adore me, love me so much, afraid that if I married Xiao Wei, I wouldn’t come back to live with you. All right then, I talked to Xiao Wei about becoming part of the Li Family by marrying into it, but what was the result? What did we get in the end? Did he ever use a penny of your money while living at our house? Did he take away anything from our home when he left for the United States? With all that, do you still feel he owes you? I gave birth to your grandchild; is this how you treat us, your son-in-law and daughter?” Li Jiayuan was speaking and began to cry. She said to Li Haixiao, ”Dad, when did you become like this? You treated Xiao Wei so well before, and he never hated you. A lot of this isn’t Xiao Wei’s fault; it’s because you don’t know how to be content. If you had been even a little kinder to Xiao Wei, he would never have treated you this way. Do you know the biggest shareholder in Li Corporation is now him? This past year, he has ensured that Li Corporation’s performance has steadily improved, never once showing a downward trend. How can you still be dissatisfied? When Li Corporation faced danger, he reached out to help, saving Li Corporation from disaster. You’re not grateful, and on top of that, you speak harshly to him. I really don’t know what to say.”

”So he’s the biggest shareholder in Li Corporation, is that why he inquired about it, to have something to hold over me, to make me respectful towards him? I’m telling you, that’s impossible. I, Li Haixiao, am not someone who can be so easily ordered around. Isn’t he just waiting for a chance to take over Li Corporation the moment I displease him? Such a cunning plan, thinking he could play this long game, but a fox eventually shows its tail...”

Li Haixiao always felt he was right. Li Jiayuan was truly thankful that Xiao Wei wasn’t there at the moment, otherwise, how heartbroken would he have been to hear these words?

”Let’s not talk about this anymore. Since you think neither of us is wrong, then let’s not discuss this issue in the future. Deep down, you should know very well that if Xiao Wei really wanted to take over Li Corporation, he could have done it on the day he invested, but he didn’t. He did it to preserve the fruits of your labor, but you have no affection for him at all in your heart, always treating him like an outsider, which is really unnecessary. Regardless, I will take our child and join him in the United States. If you really don’t want to come with us, that’s okay. He and I will transfer the necessary living expenses and pocket money to you every month. Do you think that’s acceptable?”

”I’ll think about it!”

Upon hearing Li Haixiao’s response, Li Jiayuan said nothing and simply walked away.

Li Haixiao was left alone in the living room, deep in thought...
