My Alleged Husband

Chapter 156: Chapter 140 Preparation for Going Abroad_1

Li Jiayuan and Xiao Wei finished dinner at home and were getting ready to visit Zhang Zhentian’s place to see Xia Jing, they decided not to bring their own child with them. It wasn’t that Li Jiayuan wasn’t willing to bring the kid, but because Li Haixiao didn’t want Li Jiayuan to take the child away—he wanted his grandson to stay at home and keep him company. Xiao Wei and Li Jiayuan couldn’t win against Li Haixiao, so they had no choice but to leave it be!

Li Jiayuan and Xiao Wei arrived at Zhang Zhentian’s house. Aunt Xu came to open the door, took a glance, and seeing it was Li Jiayuan and Xiao Wei, she turned back and called out to Zhang Zhentian and Xia Jing, ”Xia Jing, Zhentian, Xiao Wei is here to see you.”

Xia Jing and Zhang Zhentian were still discussing what name to give their child when Xiao Wei arrived.

”Xiao Wei, you’re here. You two lovebirds finally deigned to visit me. Tell me, it’s been so long, have you looked for me proactively after that day we bumped into each other at the hospital? If it weren’t for Xiao Wei returning, were you planning to never look for me in this lifetime? Is this how you act as a sister? You’re really too impolite,” Xia Jing said to Li Jiayuan.

”Sister, quit blaming me. Don’t you know? Ever since Xiao Wei left, I’ve been in a bad mood. If it wasn’t for the child, I might not have made it till today! How can you bear to speak to me like this? I think you should talk more about Xiao Wei. After all, when he left, he was gone for a whole year and didn’t say anything after he left. How can we, as women, feel comfortable about something like that?” Li Jiayuan said to Xia Jing, looking as if she had suffered a great injustice. Xia Jing, feeling helpless, turned her gaze to Xiao Wei, who internally groaned, ”Not good!”

”Xiao Wei, what about you? Are you really caring for your wife correctly? You’re supposed to cherish the wife you married, not leave her just because you say so. You just up and left, not even considering that Jiayuan was carrying your son in her belly at the time of your departure. By walking away, you don’t even want your own child, do you? Is this how you act as a father? If you hadn’t returned this year, don’t you think Nian Jun would grow up to resent you?” Xia Jing lectured Xiao Wei.

Xiao Wei knew that as soon as Xia Jing turned her attention to him, it wouldn’t be for anything good. And now, see what happened, it was his own fault for having gone abroad; otherwise, he wouldn’t have ended up getting an earful. Xiao Wei looked at Li Jiayuan, who, noticing his gaze, stuck her tongue out at him and said, ”Why are you looking at me like that? It’s not like I told Sister Xia to say those things. Don’t look at me that way. I’ve got Sister Xia to back me up!”

Xiao Wei was speechless; had he blamed Li Jiayuan at all? Why was Li Jiayuan acting so defensive? Zhang Zhentian watched the interactions between Xia Jing, Xiao Wei, and Li Jiayuan with a smile, feeling very happy seeing Xia Jing so jovial.

”Alright already, don’t just stand at the door. Come on in!” Zhang Zhentian, who had been silently observing, finally spoke up. Xiao Wei looked at Zhang Zhentian, whose appearance had changed a lot after a year, looking even more mature and responsible. He marveled at how time flew by so quickly, and before he knew it, his child had been born. Perhaps soon, it would be his turn to grow old.

”Brother-in-law, it’s been a year, how have you been?” Xiao Wei said to Zhang Zhentian.

Seeing Xiao Wei skip over her to greet Zhang Zhentian directly, Xia Jing’s eyes widened as she said to Xiao Wei, ”Lei Wei, what’s your deal? You skip your sister and go straight to your brother-in-law? What are you trying to do?”

Xiao Wei looked innocently at Xia Jing. ”Sister Xia, how can you say that? The topics you and Jiayuan talk about are women’s conversations. It wouldn’t be proper for us two men to listen in. So I’m just going to talk to my brother-in-law about some men’s secrets!”

Xia Jing, after hearing Xiao Wei put it this way, decided not to oppose him any further and said, ”Fine then, Jiayuan and I will chat about women’s topics by ourselves, and you two men can have your chat. Later on, I’ll treat you all to a grand meal, okay?”

”Of course, that sounds great! Who wouldn’t be happy to be treated to a meal? Thanks in advance, Sister Xia. As long as you won’t complain about the expensive dishes I might order, I’m good. It’s been so long since I’ve had a meal with Sister Xia and my brother-in-law. Now that I’m back, if we don’t have a good meal, once we go abroad again, chances to meet will be even fewer!”

”Xiao Wei, you’re going abroad again? You’ve just come back not long ago, why are you going overseas again? Can you really bear to leave your Elder Sister Xia and your brother-in-law? You still have a child here, what will you do about your son once you’re gone, could it be you’re going to leave him with Jiayuan’s dad too? In my opinion, since you don’t have much going on in the United States, why even go abroad? It’s pretty good staying here in China, right? Who knows, maybe later on you could start a company with your brother-in-law. If you leave like this, you’ll have even fewer chances to see us, do you really have the heart to make your sister stay here all alone?” Xia Jing said to Xiao Wei.

”Elder Sister Xia, it’s really necessary for me to go to the United States now, my company is there, my brothers are there, I can’t just abandon them. Besides, you have the brother-in-law with you here, and aren’t you with your kids? By the way, have you named my little nephew yet? I’d love to hold him too, why don’t I see him around? Isn’t uncle at home either?” Xiao Wei replied to Xia Jing.

”Wow, Xiao Wei, you’ve only been in the United States for less than a year and you’ve already established your own company and have your own brothers there. Not bad, you really have potential. Develop it well, don’t worry, your sister has your brother-in-law here to look after her; nothing will go wrong. As for your little nephew’s name, we haven’t decided yet, still thinking about it. I don’t even know where Dad has run off to. He’s completely obsessed with doting on grandchildren now, carrying our kids and Xia Jing’s children around all day. We don’t get a glimpse of him until night. Unlike you, you get to hold your own child every day, how joyful that is.” Zhang Zhentian said with a look of frustration.

Xiao Wei glanced at Zhang Zhentian and spoke, ”Brother-in-law, you might be mistaken, you and sister might not be able to take care of your child during the day, but at least you two can enjoy your couple’s world happily. Not like me, occasionally during the day I have to help Jiayuan take care of Nian Jun, sigh~”

”You’re not contented, boy, you’ll understand mine and Elder Sister Xia’s feelings after some time. When are you planning on having another child?” Zhang Zhentian changed the subject and dragged Xiao Wei into the conversation. Upon hearing this, Li Jiayuan’s face flushed red. Seeing Li Jiayuan’s shy expression, Xia Jing couldn’t help but join in.

”Yeah, Xiao Wei, maybe you should put in some effort. Your brother-in-law and I are still waiting for the birth of your second child!” Xia Jing joked with Li Jiayuan, unaware that Li Jiayuan was not just pregnant with one but twins, but that’s another story.

”Elder Sister Xia, you and brother-in-law should stop teasing me, I’m so embarrassed!”

”Alright, alright, we’ll drop it. Since you’ve decided to go to the United States, then all of you go to the United States. Xiao Wei, don’t leave uncle all by himself at home. I can see he really loves Nian Jun. He’s getting on in years and should enjoy the happiness of a family...”

”Sister, don’t worry, I won’t leave Jiayuan’s dad alone in China!” Xiao Wei said to Xia Jing.

”That’s good to hear. Sister sends you off with a saying, ’When the family lives in harmony, all affairs will prosper!’”

Without needing Xia Jing to explain, both Li Jiayuan and Xiao Wei understood what she meant, and they chorused in unison to Xia Jing, ”Sister, don’t worry, I’ll certainly not let your kindness go in vain!”

...

After chatting a bit more, Xia Jing and Zhang Zhentian took Li Jiayuan and Xiao Wei out for dinner.
