My Alleged Husband

Chapter 196: Chapter 177 I Won’t Leave_1

As Xia Jing spoke these words, it seemed as if time had stopped; everyone held their breath, waiting for the response of the kind girl before them.

”Auntie, to be honest, I do indeed need money, but money can’t decide everything. If I want money, I can earn it with my own efforts; I can attain it with my own hands, and I don’t need to trade my love for money. Let me tell you this, being with your son is not because of his wealth; even if he were a mere farmer, I would still want to be with him because I feel that our love is genuine. I will never leave him no matter what, and no matter how hard life gets, I won’t abandon him. I will always stand by his side, and I will never cause him to harbor any more shadows in his heart because of me. My love for him comes from the depths of my heart—it’s a kind of love that you and Uncle Zhang cannot understand. I hope you can consider our happiness, from the perspective of your son and me, okay?”

”From what you’re saying, are you willing to disregard the safety of your family for the sake of your own love?”

To make this girl give up on being with her son, Xia Jing actually threatened her with her family’s safety. What choice should this girl make now?

Lei Kai could not stand it anymore; he directly shouted at Xia Jing, ”Auntie, we address you as auntie out of respect, but I also hope you can respect yourself. Why must you destroy Yichen’s happiness? Do you know how hard he has worked these twenty years? What has he been so diligently striving for? By negating his achievements, do you think that’s what a mother should do? I don’t understand what you’re thinking, but I hope you can consider your son’s happiness, and stop doing things that will make your son hate you even more. That would be a lose-lose situation!”

”Shao’er, in auntie’s heart, I’ve always treated you as my own son. You’ve grown up before my eyes all these years. Don’t you believe that auntie is doing this for Yichen’s sake? He is my son; do you think a mother would harm him? Can’t I consider the happiness of my son in my decisions?” Xia Jing addressed Lei Shao.

”Auntie, if you truly have Yichen’s best interests at heart, then you can’t hurt this lady like this. She’s the girl Yichen wholeheartedly wants to marry. Your actions will only make Yichen hate you more. Don’t you want your son to reunite with you sooner? Do you really want your son to hate you for a lifetime and never let you be part of his life? I don’t understand where it is that you can’t stand Elder Sister Zhihan. How has she offended you? She has such a kind heart, she’s so good to your son, she’s willing to give everything for your son. Why can’t you see her goodness, her kindness? Are the only things in your eyes your own desires?”

”Isn’t what I’m doing all for your benefit, Brother Yichen? You should know, Brother Li Yichen’s achievements are enormous and his reputation is very high. As for his future wife being a commoner’s daughter, what do you think others will say about him? Won’t they think that there’s something wrong with Brother Yichen’s character for choosing such a girl? I’m considering all of this for Brother Yichen’s sake, so why can’t you understand my painstaking efforts?”

”Sis, do you realize that you are living in a delusion? Who told you that a commoner’s daughter couldn’t match a wealthy family’s son? Who told you that a commoner’s daughter will never have a successful day, and who said that the scion of a rich family can’t marry a commoner’s daughter? Aren’t you and your husband just that? You married into wealth from a common background, so why can’t your son do the same? How far do you intend to push your son before you’re satisfied? Look at your son; he sees you as if you are his enemy. Because of you, he even sees his own father as an enemy. Don’t you understand? If it hadn’t been for my husband’s unwillingness to leave you alone and isolated, would he have abandoned his own son to leave with you? He gave up his home for you, abandoned his father, left behind his son, and forsaken the homeland he had known for decades. But what have you done for him? You cost him his family, made him stray from his hometown; you’re the reason he abandoned his father and his most beloved son. All of this is your doing. Why do you always like to see the faults in others and remain blind to your own shortcomings? Do you know how much your flaws hurt those who love you, how cold they make the hearts of those who care for you?” Li Jiayuan didn’t want Xia Jing to keep arguing with her son, so she interrupted the conversation between Xia Jing and Lei Shao.

Xia Jing didn’t expect Li Jiayuan to say such things to her.

”Jiayuan, don’t you realize? For these twenty years, how much I have missed my child, do you know? Every night I have nightmares, in which I dream my child cries on me. Do you know how painful that sensation is? I have endured this agony for twenty long years. Do I really deserve this?”

”Sis, how can you still not understand? Do I think it’s what you deserve? No, I should say, don’t you think this is the suffering you should bear? You abandoned your son when he was just a month old. A month—do you comprehend what that means? If you could heartlessly abandon a child just a month old, what can’t you do? Yes, you and my husband were both mercenaries, but my husband never abandoned me and my child like you did. Why did you urge your husband to leave behind your son and his father? Do you realize Uncle Zhang is over fifty years old and has lived longing for his son every day for twenty years? Do you know how hard these years have been for him? Every time he sees a photo of my husband, he cries. Who caused all this? Is it all their fault? Does it have nothing to do with you? Why are you always blind to others, to the hardships they endure in life, the difficulties they face? Is it because you once suffered that you want everyone to experience it with you? How can you be so cruel? One is your son, the other your husband’s flesh and blood father. Can’t you think from your husband’s perspective? When he sees his father living in such pain every day, how do you think it makes him feel? Is your heart really made of stone? Even a heart of stone would be warmed by my husband—why can you never understand? If you don’t want your son to hate you for life, then stop mistreating the girl he loves, or you’ll lose the chance to reconcile with your son forever!”

On hearing Li Jiayuan’s words, Xia Jing was stunned. Perhaps she had really made a mistake, but she didn’t want to admit it was her fault. She said, ”Fine, I can stop causing trouble for her right now, but that doesn’t mean I won’t ruin their relationship in the future. As long as I’m alive, I will never let them become husband and wife!”

After saying this, Xia Jing turned around and left. Everyone present didn’t expect Xia Jing to come here and say these words. When Ran Zhihan heard this, her heart truly ached. How could she go on living if her mother-in-law was so against her?
