My Alleged Husband

Chapter 163: Chapter 147: Heart-to-Heart_1

That evening, Xiao Wei and Li Jiayuan discussed the matter and decided that before leaving for the United States, they should say goodbye to Xia Jing and Zhang Zhentian. After all, Xia Jing had taken good care of Li Jiayuan during the past year. No matter what, Xia Jing was Xiao Wei’s elder sister, and with her own brother going abroad, it seemed appropriate to bid her farewell. He didn’t want to leave silently again and have Xia Jing hold any hard feelings. Xiao Wei now understood that as long as a family could be happy together, nothing else mattered. He realized that one should not be too greedy, for excessive greed could eventually lead to gaining nothing. Rather than ending up empty-handed, it was better to cherish one’s family, for family affection is something that money can never buy.

”Jiayuan, have you noticed that something seems off with Elder Sister Xia and Zhentian’s relationship? It’s been a year, and they still argue at the drop of a hat, even escalating to irreconcilable disputes!” Suddenly recalling the scenes he had witnessed, Xiao Wei couldn’t help but ask Li Jiayuan.

Li Jiayuan sighed and said to Xiao Wei, ”Aren’t we the same? It’s been a year, and moreover, we haven’t been together this past year; we’ve only just met again, and look, we still argue at the slightest provocation. But I’m actually quite envious of Elder Sister Xia. Even though she and her husband argue every day, at least they are together to argue. They’ve been at it for a year, while I’ve had no one to argue with me all year. Isn’t that even lonelier?”

Hearing Li Jiayuan speak like this, Xiao Wei knew she was reminded of the past again, and he felt genuinely remorseful. He said to Li Jiayuan, ”Wife, I’m sorry. I swear I’ll never leave you alone here again. Wherever I go, I’ll bring you with me. I absolutely won’t let you shed a tear because of me, nor let you be heartbroken over me, alright? This time it was my fault for not thinking things through and leaving you here alone. However, you should also know that it was tough on me too, so I hope you can forgive my reckless actions at the time. Can we just be happy together from now on?”

”Darling, you shouldn’t say such things. Although I haven’t been very happy this past year, I had my father with me and our child, the fruit of our love, for company. I admit, when I opened my eyes after giving birth and didn’t see you, I was truly disappointed. At that moment, I couldn’t help but think: You didn’t come to see me even when I was giving birth, ’Do you even care about me at all?’ But now I don’t think that way anymore. You have your reasons, and you’re busy with your affairs. I’ve been here all along, just waiting for you to come and see me. I’m so grateful to the heavens that even though you didn’t send me a single message or leave a word, even when I was on the verge of death giving birth to our child, the heavens eventually brought you back to me. They didn’t let me truly lose you. I know how painful it is to lose someone. Please never leave me, okay?” Li Jiayuan said, gazing intently at Xiao Wei.

”I will never leave you. Didn’t I say that wherever I go, I’d bring you with me? I can’t bear to see you suffer here alone because of me. Even if you don’t say it, I know you’ve had a tough year. My dear, thank you. Thank you for struggling so hard to bring our child into the world, for preventing our Lei Family from being without an heir, for giving me so much love, and thank heaven for letting me marry such a wonderful wife like you. Life indeed has many disappointments, but I believe that if we’re willing to venture and dare to struggle, then there’s nothing in this world that can keep us down. Do you know? During my time in the United States, I came to understand that if a person wants to succeed but fears failure, then they will never succeed. Because when you fear failure, you’ve already stopped here; you don’t dare to move forward and explore what lies ahead. Then you’ll just go in circles your whole life, and how could you possibly succeed? Only through constant effort, using one’s sweat to strive and to pay the price, will you reach the day of success. Otherwise, you’ll never have that day!”

”Darling, who would’ve thought that you would come to understand the meaning of life so thoroughly in just a year’s time? But I can’t reach your level yet. Actually, I can empathize with you now, understand Elder Sister Xia, Zhentian, and my father’s lives. You and Xia Jing were born into poverty; everything you wanted, you had to work hard for it from a young age, whereas Zhentian and I are different. We were born into wealthy families, already having the world that our parents worked hard to build, a world that wouldn’t allow us to experience even a bit of hardship, and so we developed incredibly spoiled habits. It’s these habits that caused me to argue with you over and over and led to Zhentian arguing with Elder Sister Xia time and time again. I don’t want to say anything else, I just want to tell you: I will change those bad habits of mine, for you and for our family. I want to be your supportive wife, not just someone who hides behind you, crying!”

Li Jiayuan spoke earnestly to Xiao Wei, who never expected her to say such things one day. It truly seemed like a river running backward.

Seeing Xiao Wei in deep thought, Li Jiayuan waited silently to speak. Just as she was about to say something, Xiao Wei pulled her into his arms and kissed her deeply. Li Jiayuan’s eyes widened; it had been such a long time since she had felt this way. She wrapped her arms around Xiao Wei’s waist, responding passionately to his embrace.

A few minutes later, Xiao Wei finally let go of Li Jiayuan. Her face was flushed red. ”What’s the matter? Shy?” he teased.

”Not at all. I’m not shy, but what about you? How could you do that?” Li Jiayuan retorted.

”Hey, are you denying it just after we kissed?”

”Xiao Wei, can you not talk like that? If you keep it up, I’ll ignore you!”

”Alright, alright, I’ll stop. I want to discuss something with you, something serious, oh~” While speaking, Xiao Wei looked at Li Jiayuan with a sly smile.

Seeing that kind of smile on Xiao Wei’s face, Li Jiayuan knew it definitely had something to do with her, and sure enough...

”What is it? Tell me,” she said.

”Honey, I want to tell you that once our child turns one, let’s work hard to give them a little brother or sister, okay?”

Upon hearing Xiao Wei’s words, Li Jiayuan’s eyes instantly widened. She hadn’t guessed wrong; it really did involve her! But was it really okay to say such things to her face?

”Don’t stay quiet, tell me, what do you think of my proposal? Isn’t it great? Tell me!” Xiao Wei urged Li Jiayuan.

With a look of resignation, Li Jiayuan cleared her throat and said to Xiao Wei, ”Your proposal is fantastic! Very Good!”

Delighted with Li Jiayuan’s response, Xiao Wei was over the moon. He thought to himself: His guess was right, Li Jiayuan indeed wanted to have children with him.
