My Alleged Husband

Chapter 189: Chapter 172 Meeting the Parents_1

Zhang Yichen sat on the sofa at home, thinking that he shouldn’t worry so much. This time, he should bring that young girl to meet his grandfather. After all, he had already decided to spend his life with this young girl. It would be unreasonable not to tell his grandfather about such a big decision. He immediately called the young girl.

”Zhihan, do you have time?”

”Yichen, what’s up? Are you looking for me for something? I’m still out job-hunting!”

”It’s like this, I thought about it and decided to take you home to meet my grandfather. What do you think about that? If you agree, I’ll come over to pick you up right now.”

”What? You want me to meet your grandfather now? But I can’t afford to buy anything at the moment. What if your grandfather looks down on me?” Ran Zhihan asked anxiously.

Zhang Yichen chuckled, ”You’re overthinking it. My grandfather won’t look down on you. He knows how difficult it is for a commoner’s family, so don’t worry. That’s settled then; I’ll come to pick you up now. Just send me your location!”

So he brought the lovely girl back home to meet Old Master Zhang. Upon arrival at the Zhang Family home, Young Master Zhang saw his grandson accompanied by a young girl and was somewhat puzzled. He asked his grandson, ”Yichen, what’s going on here? Is this your colleague? If she’s your colleague, then come in quickly and sit down. Don’t just stand there!”

”Grandfather, I want to formally introduce her to you. This is the dream girl whom I vowed to marry ten years ago. It’s her. I hope you can treat her well in the future. Her name is Ran Zhihan!”

”Hello, grandfather. I am the girl Yichen has been searching for. I’m very pleased to meet you!”

Old Master Zhang was a bit flustered. What was this situation? How did his grandson go out and bring back a girl, claiming she was his granddaughter-in-law? How was he supposed to accept this just like that? Old Master Zhang decided to properly evaluate the young girl. He couldn’t allow his grandson to marry a girl with an unclear background; this was a matter for a lifetime after all.

”Hello, it’s very nice to meet you too. Young lady, can you tell Grandfather what your family does? And where are your parents?” Elder Zhang gently asked Ran Zhihan.

”Grandfather, not to hide it from you, my parents are farmers, and I come from a farmer family. My parents are still in the countryside. But rest assured, I won’t be like those other girls. I will definitely be good to Yichen. I met him ten years ago, albeit with difficulty, and it was from that time that I decided I would only marry him. So, I hope you can approve of us. My parents are law-abiding citizens and have never done anything illegal or against discipline!”

”Child, do you also want to know what qualifications you have?”

”Grandfather, truth be told, I only have an ordinary university degree. Because my parents are farmers, I didn’t want to burden them with the heavy expense of sending me to study abroad, so I gave up the chance to study overseas. I stayed in the country, hoping to honor my parents properly, as they’ve had quite a challenge raising me!”

...

Ran Zhihan responded fluidly to all of Old Master Zhang’s questions, not at all inferior to the daughters of prominent families in the city. This impressed the old man greatly. A simple farmer’s daughter being able to do such was no easy feat. He really wanted to approve of their union, but the girl’s educational background... in Old Master Zhang’s eyes, it was far too low. Knowing his grandson had brought this girl to meet him meant that the young man must be quite determined to not let go. If he forcibly split them up, it might backfire. Why not give this girl a chance to increase her educational level to better match his grandson, and then he too would feel proud!

”Child, Grandpa is quite fond of you. To be honest, Grandpa also admires you. After all, it’s rare to see a farmer’s daughter who can converse so effortlessly with high society, and keep her composure. Grandpa would like to talk to you alone, is that alright?”

”Of course.”

Zhang Yichen was afraid his grandfather might say something unpleasant to Ran Zhihan, and he was somewhat reluctant, but ultimately, Ran Zhihan convinced Zhang Yichen.

Old Master Zhang and Ran Zhihan went up to the study.

”Grandpa, please say whatever you wish; I’m all ears!”

”Child, you know that you love Yichen very much, and I know Yichen loves you deeply. Indeed, for the past ten years I have watched Yichen work hard to become an economic tycoon, so he could marry you. So I believe in the depth of your relationship. But as you know, we belong to high society, and your educational credentials are a bit too low. Grandpa isn’t opposed to you two being together. I want to discuss this with you, to offer you an opportunity. Grandpa will pay for you to study abroad, and when you return, you can marry Yichen and have children. I wonder if you could wait for these few years?” Old Master Zhang finally expressed his thoughts as he looked at the girl before him.

Ran Zhihan thought for a moment and said to Old Master Zhang, ”Grandpa, I am willing to wait these years, but I don’t want you to pay for me in vain. May I consider the money as a loan from you? Once I return from my studies abroad and start working, I will repay every cent of my tuition fees that you paid for me. Is that acceptable to you?”

Old Master Zhang never expected such an understanding child from a peasant family. If only the daughters of the wealthy elites could have such good upbringing, that would be wonderful.

”Of course, child. Grandpa hopes you will study hard while you’re abroad. You know, my grandson has become a global economic emperor, and his future life will be even more complicated. I hope he marries a wise and helpful wife, one who can manage our domestic affairs and create opportunities for him internationally. Do you understand what Grandpa is saying?”

”Grandpa, I understand. This is all because of your concern. You’re doing this for Yichen and me. You know, when Yichen was training in the valley and got seriously hurt, if it weren’t for my good fortune to have met him then, I wouldn’t have this strong support in my life. I should thank you for sending Yichen to train in that valley. I feel that for Yichen, I can sacrifice everything. I will certainly fulfill your expectations and will not disappoint my parents. But, could you please help arrange for someone to take care of my parents while I’m abroad?” Ran Zhihan expressed her concern.

”Silly child, of course Grandpa can find someone to take care of your mom and dad. When you return from studying abroad, your mom and dad will be my in-laws, right? At that time, they’ll also be my grandson’s parents. How could I not find someone to take good care of them?” It never occurred to him that a plain countryside girl could possess such filial piety. At that moment, he wished his own son had even half of this girl’s filial nature. No, not half, if only a tenth. Would the outcome then not be different? Would they not have been forced to leave their home by his own harsh actions?

”Grandpa, I thank you here and now. I will heed your arrangements!” Ran Zhihan said.

When Old Master Zhang heard Ran Zhihan’s reply, he felt very happy inside. He felt at ease that such a considerate girl would marry his grandson. In his heart, he tacitly consented to their marriage. However, this wedding would have to wait a few more years before the ceremony could take place...

When Ran Zhihan shared this with Zhang Yichen, he had not expected his grandfather to make such an offer, and he was deeply touched. He knew that the person in the world who loved him the most was his grandfather.
