My Alleged Husband

Chapter 152: Chapter 136: Forget it, I forgive you!_1

Li Jiayuan shook her head, trying to cast all those thoughts aside. She needed to sleep, not to keep thinking about Xiao Wei over and over—she didn’t want to!

The next day, before dawn, Li Jiayuan was already up. When Li Haixiao called her to get up for breakfast, he was taken aback by her appearance. He said to Li Jiayuan, ”Jiayuan, what happened to you? Why are your dark circles so heavy? You didn’t stay up all night, did you?”

What could Li Jiayuan say? Could she really tell her dad that she didn’t simply stay up all night but hadn’t slept at all? Wouldn’t that be awkward? Despite having driven Xiao Wei out, here she was, suffering a sleepless night because of him. Wouldn’t that just show her dad that she couldn’t let go of Xiao Wei? She didn’t want that!

”Dad, how could I possibly have stayed up all night? These dark circles are probably because I had to feed Nian Jun more often last night and didn’t sleep well,” Li Jiayuan vaguely said to Li Haixiao. However, Li Haixiao understood too well that Li Jiayuan was just beating around the bush.

Li Haixiao said to Li Jiayuan, ”Jiayuan, do you think your dad is a fool? I’ve raised children before, remember? I brought you up all by myself. Even if a child needs feeding several times during the night, you wouldn’t be this exhausted. Be honest, is it because of Xiao Wei? Don’t think about lying to me!”

Li Jiayuan suddenly felt a profound sense of helplessness. Why did she have such a perceptive father? He knew everything, how could she ever deceive him in the future?

Li Jiayuan sighed and said to Li Haixiao, ”Dad, isn’t it enough that you know what’s in my heart? Why do you insist on making me say it?”

Seeing Li Jiayuan like this, Li Haixiao genuinely didn’t know what to say. He told Li Jiayuan, ”Jiayuan, since that’s the case, why won’t you forgive Xiao Wei? Look at yourself, the child is already here, there’s no need to keep up this moodiness...”

When Li Jiayuan heard her father taking Xiao Wei’s side, she felt uncomfortable. She told Li Haixiao, ”Dad, you’re not unaware of how I’ve spent the past year. You’ve seen firsthand how I struggled. When I was at my most difficult, he didn’t fulfill his responsibilities as a husband. Now that I’ve given birth to the child, he thinks he can just come back as if nothing happened. Why should he?”

”Jiayuan, no matter what, it’s all in the past now. Aren’t you doing well at present? It’s okay to vent your emotions, but there’s no need to keep making a fuss. What do you think?”

Li Jiayuan found his words almost laughable. Wasn’t she just being too sentimental?

”Dad, what are you trying to say? Are you suggesting that I’m doing this on purpose? I can’t accept it. While I was struggling, he abandoned me. While I toiled through pregnancy for him, he showed no concern for me. When others ridiculed me, he was absent. Where was he when I was suffering the most, when I desperately preserved his lineage? You’ve seen it all. I dared not message or call him for a whole year because I was afraid he’d find me annoying and leave me for good. But what about him? If he really cared for me, for Nian Jun, why didn’t he call me, or at least send a message? Yet, I received nothing. Now he returns, expecting reconciliation as if it’s a given. I, Li Jiayuan, am not spineless. I’ve given enough for him in this lifetime; I owe him nothing. Why should I be trampled underfoot? I have dignity too. If he doesn’t come back to sincerely apologize, I won’t mind separating...”

Talking about this, Li Jiayuan began to cry. She truly felt wronged and continued to tell Li Haixiao, ”Dad, actually, a woman doesn’t ask for much. For me, I don’t care whether he’s rich or exceptionally handsome. What matters to me is whether he has the slightest sense of responsibility. I don’t ask for much, only that he be by my side when I most need him. Is that too much to ask? Maybe I’ll forgive him if he comes to apologize sincerely and I’m in a good mood. But if I’m not, well, I can’t say I won’t have him standing at the doorstep indefinitely...”

Li Haixiao could see that this time Li Jiayuan was truly resolute. He silently wiped sweat from his brow for Xiao Wei.

Li Jiayuan didn’t know Xiao Wei had already heard everything she had said; before Li Haixiao called Jiayuan to come for dinner, Xiao Wei had phoned Li Haixiao to ask if Jiayuan was up. Li Haixiao told Xiao Wei not to hang up; he would go and call Jiayuan for dinner. All the words that Li Haixiao said to Jiayuan afterwards were designed to prompt her own thoughts, which Xiao Wei heard clearly through the phone. He finally understood why Jiayuan’s attitude had been so resolute, insisting on driving him away! Xiao Wei quietly waited for Jiayuan to continue.

”Dad, I hope you won’t tell Xiao Wei about what I told you today. To tell you the truth, I really look forward to raising Nian Jun with Xiao Wei. I truly care about him in my heart, but in the end, I chose self-respect over him and my pride. I, Li Jiayuan, can lose everything, but I just can’t lose my self-respect. If a person loses their self-respect, what’s the point of living in this world?”

After listening, Xiao Wei silently hung up the phone. He now knew what was in Jiayuan’s heart, which made things much easier to handle. He was ready to implement the thick-skinned strategy he had carefully devised!

Xiao Wei prepared himself, put on a suit, and carried a bouquet of red roses. He drove his luxury car to Jiayuan’s front door. He didn’t knock on the door but stood at the entrance and shouted, ”Jiayuan, I know I was wrong. Please forgive me. I know my faults. If you don’t forgive me, I’ll just stand here and not leave. I will wait until you come out. Jiayuan, I know you can hear me. Would you please come out and see me, I’m begging you...”

Li Jiayuan heard Xiao Wei’s shouting from the living room, but she was unwilling to go out. She wanted to see what lengths Xiao Wei would go to. It wasn’t long before thunder roared outside and a sudden downpour began. Xiao Wei was mentally prepared; he had even checked the weather forecast before leaving because he thought the rain might increase his chances of success. However, he had not expected it to rain so heavily. With the wind arriving, the trees around were rustling loudly in the wind, thunder mixing with the sound of the rain, and the gusts carrying it further. Xiao Wei stood motionless outside the door.

Li Haixiao looked at Jiayuan, not saying a word. He knew that whatever he said would be futile; it was better to let Jiayuan make her own decision to approach Xiao Wei.

”Jiayuan, would you please forgive me?” Xiao Wei shouted to Jiayuan through the rain.

Back home, Jiayuan struggled with herself, unable to hold back any longer, not wanting Xiao Wei to get sick. She picked up an umbrella, opened the front door, and walked towards Xiao Wei: ”What are you doing? Have you lost your mind?”

Seeing Jiayuan finally come out, Xiao Wei was so happy. He said to Jiayuan, ”I was wrong, please forgive me!”

”Let’s go inside,” Jiayuan didn’t directly answer Xiao Wei.

”If you don’t forgive me, I won’t go inside!” Xiao Wei said to Jiayuan, ready to take a gamble, needing to see if he still had a place in Jiayuan’s heart.

Jiayuan, feeling helpless, said to Xiao Wei, ”Fine, I forgive you. Can we go inside now?”

”Yes...”

Jiayuan tugged Xiao Wei into the living room; they were both soaking wet from head to toe. Even though he was drenched, Xiao Wei couldn’t contain his joy—she had finally forgiven him!
