My Alleged Husband

Chapter 167: Chapter 151 Arriving in the United States!_1

Xiao Wei, Li Jiayuan, and Li Haixiao, a family of four, sat on the plane for about a day before they arrived in the United States. On the plane, although Xiao Wei comforted her, Li Jiayuan still cried. She had been abroad and visited the United States before, but she still didn’t want to leave her hometown now. She had finally returned to her hometown a year ago, yet today, a year later, she had come to the place where she had once studied abroad.

On the plane, Li Haixiao watched Li Jiayuan crying in Xiao Wei’s arms, knowing how reluctant she was to leave, but he didn’t know what to say. He was also reluctant, but what could he do? His daughter and grandson had both gone abroad. Could it be that he, an old man, should stay at home alone to spend the rest of his days? No, he didn’t want that. He would rather be far from his hometown and come to the United States to be with his daughter than stay alone in his hometown to grow old.

On the plane, Xiao Wei, Li Jiayuan, and Li Haixiao all felt incredibly heavy-hearted, only Nian Jun was laughing and joking! He didn’t know anything, didn’t know where he was going; he just found sitting on this plane to be really fun and exciting and saw many unfamiliar faces. All three of them sighed as they watched the child being so happy, ”Only small children can be so naive and carefree.”

Xiao Wei said to Li Jiayuan, ”Actually, it’s really better not to grow up. Once you do, all that awaits you are troubles. Although there will be lots of happiness and joy waiting for you, the troubles are truly bothersome!”

Li Jiayuan smiled when she heard Xiao Wei’s words and agreed in her heart. She replied to Xiao Wei, ”You’re right. I’ve wondered why I had to grow up and what lies ahead for me as an adult. When I was little, I truly wanted to grow up so I could see the world outside. But when I actually grew up and saw the world, how I longed to return to the past. The carefreeness and the innocence of childhood no longer exist, and now I am faced with the responsibilities I have to bear on my own shoulders. Sometimes they can be so overwhelming that they leave you breathless. But what can you do? Life is like this, and you have to choose to accept it, not escape from it, for running away doesn’t solve the problems.”

”Jiayuan, I didn’t expect you to see things so clearly. You’re right, but people can’t help escaping from some things in life. Sometimes, escape might be futile, but it can alleviate the pain in your heart. In the end, you still have to face it head-on because only by confronting it can you resolve it, and not by constantly running away. If you choose to escape, then you’ll live your life in fear. Looking at Nian Jun like this, I really want to go back to when I was small. Although I had a hard life back then, struggling with hunger and cold, I was very happy. At that time, I didn’t have to worry about what my future life would be like. As long as I lived the present well, but now we have to worry not only about what to do with our lives in the future but also about Nian Jun’s future path, education, family... We have to worry about him. We already have our own families, and we have to shoulder the responsibilities for them, not escape. Escaping is not a way to solve problems; it’s a sign of cowardice.”

Li Jiayuan replied to Xiao Wei with a wry smile, ”My dear, everything you said is correct. I wanted to escape from the feelings of homesickness, but now I’m embarrassed to do so after what you’ve said. You know, many times, choosing to accept is not a sign of bravery. By choosing to accept, you take on that pain in your heart. I don’t want to live a life with such pain, that would be too much for me. Now, I wish for nothing more than for you, Nian Jun, and Dad to live happily and at ease, without having to think about those complicated matters. I really hope that when my child grows up, he won’t have to worry about how he should live his life like we do. I still hope he can grow up on his own, rather than always under his parents’ protection, which wouldn’t help him at all and would be meaningless, only fostering his laziness.”

Hearing Li Jiayuan’s words, Xiao Wei couldn’t help feeling emotional, ”Everyone’s life is different, and the paths they choose are different too. No one can predict what lies ahead in a person’s life; only the path he chooses himself may be the best one for him. Even if it turns out to be unbeneficial for him, he must still finish it even if he has to crawl. There can be no giving up halfway, since once a choice is made, there is no turning back. If there’s ever a chance that he could give up halfway, I’d rather not have a son at all; I, Lei Wei, will never tolerate a son who is not serious about what he does and gives up halfway, as that would be a disgrace to me. Just in case, we should have a few more children once we’re in the United States; what do you think?”

Xiao Wei’s conversation took a sudden turn, leaving Li Jiayuan speechless.

”Have several more kids? Why on earth would we do that? It’s such a hassle! We can hardly afford one, let alone the sheer worry of just one child. If we had a few more, they’d drive me to an early grave for sure. Now, kids might look cute, but they’re absolutely brainless when it comes to doing things!” Li Jiayuan grumbled to herself silently.

Seeing that Li Jiayuan didn’t speak, Xiao Wei turned to her and asked, ”What’s the matter, sweetheart, wouldn’t it be nice to have a few more kids later on?”

Before Li Jiayuan could respond to Xiao Wei’s question, Li Haixiao jumped in. He chuckled at Xiao Wei and said, ”Sure, sure! It doesn’t matter if you have ten or eight. The more, the merrier. Then I can spend every day living in a world of little ones. How joyful that would be!”

Xiao Wei couldn’t stop laughing at this, but Li Jiayuan was far from happy. She shot a glance at Li Haixiao and felt incredibly helpless. Who in their right mind would want ten or eight children? She wasn’t a sow; how could she possibly have so many!

”And you, what’s with the laughter? Seriously, couldn’t you have discussed this with me in private? Why bring it up here? Now look what’s happened; my dad heard everything.”

”Oh come on, Jiayuan, don’t be mad. After all, you’re my wife. So what if people overhear? Is having kids something we need permission for? If someone says no, does that mean we don’t have our own children? That’s just not right. Besides, wouldn’t it be better for Nian Jun to have a few more brothers and sisters? That way, they could help each other out, and we wouldn’t have to worry so much. Don’t you think?”

”Stop right there. You’re brainwashing me again. Can’t you just not talk about this? Yeah, everything you’re saying might be true, but come on. Anyway, let’s just put our stuff back in your place in the United States first, then we can talk about this, OK?”

”OK, OK. You’re my wife; whatever you say goes.”

Li Jiayuan was delighted to hear Xiao Wei’s words. Though they were few, they brought her immense joy. After they got off the plane, they took their belongings and returned to Xiao Wei’s house in the United States.
