My Alleged Husband

Chapter 164: Chapter 148 Choosing Gifts is Tough_1

The next morning, Li Jiayuan got up early. She lay in bed, gazing at Xiao Wei beside her, who looked utterly enchanting no matter how she looked at him. She really wanted to steal a kiss. But before her lips could descend, Xiao Wei woke up. With a grin, he looked at Li Jiayuan and said, ”What’s this, craving your husband’s attention early in the morning?”

Just as Xiao Wei finished speaking, Li Jiayuan sat up with a start and said to him, ”What are you thinking of doing? It’s early morning; are you hungry? If so, I’ll get up and make breakfast, okay?”

Li Jiayuan quickly got dressed after she spoke, ready to dash off.

”Oh wow, my wife is in the mood to cook breakfast for her husband today. How could I refuse such an offer? Let me taste the culinary skills of my beloved wife!” Xiao Wei teased Li Jiayuan.

”All right, then wait and see. You’ll respect my cooking skills today. It’s been a whole year, and you definitely have no idea how much I’ve improved. It’ll surely surprise you.” Li Jiayuan cheerfully told Xiao Wei.

Xiao Wei, looking at Li Jiayuan in front of him, felt an overwhelming sense of happiness.

After having breakfast at home, they planned to buy some stuff, and then go to the Zhang family’s home to say goodbye to Xia Jing and Zhang Zhentian. They had already finalized their itinerary, as they were set to leave for the United States tomorrow. As Li Jiayuan took stock of everything in the house, she really felt reluctant to leave; after all, this was where she had lived for over twenty years. Now she was about to leave it all behind to live in another country. She wondered if she would ever get the chance to return. Xiao Wei could see Li Jiayuan’s unwillingness to leave and said, ”Honey, don’t worry. After we move, we can come back to visit after a while. We won’t stay there forever without returning. I know how much you hate to leave this place, and I feel the same. My brothers, my sister, and all my loved ones are here. I’m reluctant to leave too, so I will come back. Don’t be too sad. Let’s get some things, visit Elder Sister Xia, and when her husband and everyone else are informed, we’ll come back, pack up, and leave tomorrow!”

Listening to Xiao Wei, Li Jiayuan still felt a tinge of sorrow. This house was chosen especially for her by her parents when she was born, with the plan that it would be left to Li Jiayuan after they passed away. She hadn’t expected to leave this home so soon; she had thought she would never leave it in her lifetime.

”Honey, let’s go buy some stuff now and then visit sister. It’s been over a month since I’ve seen my little nephew. Don’t you want to meet your adorable little nephew?” Li Jiayuan cheerfully suggested to Xiao Wei.

Xiao Wei replied to Li Jiayuan, ”How could I not want to see him? But I haven’t had the chance. Last time we went to visit Elder Sister Xia’s house, didn’t you see how Uncle took the nephew out to play, and we didn’t get a chance to see him? When I returned last time, I specifically went to see her, but I didn’t get to meet him. Today we absolutely must see the little nephew before coming back. Otherwise, I’d really regret it.”

Hearing Xiao Wei’s words, Li Jiayuan laughed heartily, feeling truly happy for the first time in ages. She said to Xiao Wei, ”Since that’s the case, shouldn’t we get going? It’s getting late, and if we don’t go now, we won’t have time to come back and pack. We should rest early tonight since we have to catch a flight tomorrow morning.”

”I got it, my dearest wife. Why have you become such a nagger now? In the future, who will dare to speak with you? So naggy. If our children grow up and find out they have such a naggy mother, I don’t know if they’ll be annoyed by your nagging or if they’ll like it! But speaking of which, what do you think we should buy for Elder Sister Xia? She really doesn’t lack anything right now. If we buy something and she doesn’t like it, wouldn’t that be awkward? How about we don’t buy anything and just go over, hang out, mooch a meal, and then come back? How does that sound?”

Li Jiayuan listened to Xiao Wei’s reasoning and felt that his idea was simply terrible. Who goes to eat without bringing a gift?

Xiao Wei saw Li Jiayuan roll her eyes at him and, not understanding why, said to her, ”Honey, why are you rolling your eyes at me? Did I say something wrong? If we buy something to see Elder Sister Xia and she doesn’t like it, won’t that be awkward? Better not to buy anything at all, it’s a waste of money. It’s really not easy to earn a penny, so it wouldn’t be too much to go for a meal without a gift since she’s my sister, right?”

”You’re not wrong,” Li Jiayuan replied. ”Even if you don’t buy something for your sister and brother-in-law, shouldn’t you at least get a little gift for your nephew when you visit? And let’s not forget uncle is at home too. He’s quite old; don’t you think you should buy him a gift as well? You can’t go empty-handed twice; that would be terribly rude,” Li Jiayuan reminded Xiao Wei.

Xiao Wei thought it indeed made sense; it really was impolite to visit someone’s home empty-handed twice.

But Xiao Wei had no idea what to bring, so he dumped the problem on Li Jiayuan.

”Wife dearest, hehe, why don’t you take care of this? You’re so clever; you should be able to handle this difficult task, right? Take it as an honor!” Xiao Wei said to Li Jiayuan with a grin. Li Jiayuan knew these kinds of tasks always ended up with her, and she sighed deeply, helplessly saying to Xiao Wei, ”Dear, is she your sister, or is she my sister?”

Xiao Wei said to Li Jiayuan, ”She’s our sister. Isn’t your dad also my dad? Aren’t all my relatives your relatives too? So, if Xia Jing is my sister, then she is your sister as well. Now, don’t you think it’s appropriate for you to buy something for sister, for sister’s father-in-law, and for her son?”

Li Jiayuan was really impressed by Xiao Wei’s eloquence, which left her speechless. She told Xiao Wei, ”Dear, I’ve realized a serious problem. I think you shouldn’t be a CEO, but rather a psychologist or a brainwashing specialist. You’re so skilled at brainwashing; a few words from you and I’m thinking your way. With your skill in brainwashing, if you ever did something bad and then brainwashed me, wouldn’t I just have to follow you?”

Xiao Wei’s face turned red as he said to Li Jiayuan, ”Why would you say that? Who would do bad things? Besides, can anyone go through life without doing a single bad thing? Think about it, if it weren’t for my determination to ’kill’ you back then, would we be together today? Would we have our child? Right? Anyway, you just need to trust me a little; no matter what, I, Xiao Wei, will never abandon you, never betray you. I will only respect you, love you, protect you. Alright, let’s not talk about this anymore. We really should be leaving now or we won’t make it on time.”

”Shall we set off on foot together then?”

Li Jiayuan and Xiao Wei strolled through the shopping mall together, unsure of what to buy. After a while, Li Jiayuan picked a bag of famous tea leaves for Old Master Zhang. They bought a pair of adorable tiger-head hats for Xia Jing and Zhang Zhentian’s child.

And so, the two of them made their way to Xia Jing’s home.
