My Alleged Husband

Ding-ling-ling... Ding-ling-ling...

”Hello, who is this?” Old Master Zhang answered the phone, softly asking the person on the other end.

”Hello, may I ask if you’re the father of Zhang Zhentian and Xia Jing?”

Upon hearing this, Old Master Zhang was a bit bewildered. If Zhang Zhentian and Xia Jing wanted to find him, why wouldn’t they call themselves? Why would they have a strange man call on their behalf?

”That’s right, I am. What can I do for you?”

”In Los Angeles, United States, Zhang Zhentian and Xia Jing were involved in a very serious car accident, and are now hospitalized. I wanted to ask if you have the time? Could you possibly come over to handle some formalities?”

When Old Master Zhang heard this, his grip on his mobile phone almost failed him.

Zhang Yichen saw his grandfather, who had never been so utterly panicked, walked over, took the mobile phone, and asked, ”Hello, my grandfather is not feeling well. May I know what you just told my grandfather? Can you tell me?”

”Hello, I just told the old gentleman that his son, Zhang Zhentian, and Xia Jing had a very serious car accident and are now hospitalized. I wanted to ask if anyone in your family has the time and could possibly come over to handle some formalities?”

When Zhang Yichen heard this strange man reveal that his parents had been in a very serious accident, his first response was, ”I’m sorry, Mr. Zhang Zhentian and Miss Xia Jing are no longer members of the Zhang Family. Their life and death are no longer related to the Zhang Family. Ten years ago, the two of them severed all ties with the Zhang Family and cut off the father-son relationship with my grandfather, so please don’t call and disturb my grandfather again with whatever issues they have. My grandfather is of advanced age, and I don’t want anything troubling him. Thank you for your cooperation. Goodbye!”

”Okay, I understand now, sorry to have bothered you!”

Zhang Yichen immediately hung up the phone. Old Master Zhang was looking at the child in front of him, unsure whether he should be happy or what. This child he saw before him, after years of his training, had finally learned to keep calm in the face of events. But, had his treatment of his parents also become so indifferent? Was it good or bad? Old Master Zhang couldn’t tell himself.

”Grandpa, what do you think about what I just said?”

”Yichen, they are still your parents, after all. Now that they have encountered trouble abroad, we as their family should go and see them. How could you speak like that?” Elder Zhang asked Zhang Yichen.

”Grandpa, did I say something wrong? You yourself have said that you severed the father-son relationship with my dad. No, he’s not my dad. Since you have cut off ties with that person, whatever happens to them outside shouldn’t need to be communicated to us. The moment they abandoned me ten years ago, they separated themselves from everything to do with the Zhang Family. From then on, the Zhang family is no longer their home, you even said yourself they are never allowed to set foot in the Zhang Family’s home. How could you go back on your word? You taught me that one must be ruthless in life and that one must also be trustworthy, keeping their word. You know ’A man is nothing without his word.’ How can you be someone without credibility? So, Grandpa, if you miss them, you can secretly call them behind my back, but don’t do it in front of me. I don’t want to hear any news about them. Whether they are alive or dead outside has nothing to do with me anymore. Everything was determined the moment they abandoned me!” Zhang Yichen’s attitude shocked Elder Zhang.

Elder Zhang wanted to speak again, but Zhang Yichen interrupted him, saying, ”Grandpa, I also hope you won’t mention either of them in front of me in the future. Having decided to become an economic emperor, I will achieve it at all costs. I will make those who looked down on me pay for what they did to me. I believe that for any parent, the most painful price to pay is for their child to treat them as strangers, to meet without recognition, and even if there is recognition, to refuse acknowledgment. That feeling is the greatest torture for them!”

”Yichen, how can you talk like this? If your parents knew, how heartbroken they would be?” Elder Zhang couldn’t believe the words coming from his grandson.

”Grandpa, no need to doubt the truthfulness of these words. If I can say it, I can do it. Rest assured, I will never let you down in the future. The title of economic emperor is mine to claim, and I will ensure my enterprises span the globe, letting everyone benefit from them. However, those who are envious, who have hurt me, abandoned me, will pay the price. Grandpa, if one day I become ruthless or you don’t recognize me, I hope you believe that in my heart, you will always be my dearest grandfather, unchanging. In my heart, you will always be my sky. Thank you for looking out for me over the years. Now it’s my turn to clear all obstacles for you so that you can live out your years in peace. Rest assured, ten years from now, on the day I become an emperor, I will marry the woman of my heart and have several children!”

When Elder Zhang heard that he could embrace great-grandchildren, his mood immediately brightened!
