Peaceful Farm Life

Chapter 2501: Chapter 2502: Return to Tianyun (68)

”Hmm.” Taoming Ye nodded.

”Father is really happy today. I’ve never seen him treat me so kindly like he did today, and towards Grandma as well.”

”Because you ranked first in the exam.”

”Just because I ranked first, he changed his attitude so much. If I actually become the top scholar in the future, wouldn’t he be even happier?”

Taoming Ye laughed, ”If you become the top scholar, Father will definitely book a restaurant, hold a feast for three days. He’ll also grandly honor our ancestors.”

Su Xing chuckled, ”Isn’t that too exaggerated?”

”The Tao family has never had a top scholar, and you’re a female scholar. Such glorious matters for the family are appropriate. You see other families that get promoted, their ceremonies are even grander.” He paused, ”Father is someone who really cares about face. As long as someone brings him prestige, he gets especially happy. You just happened to bring him great pride this time.”

”Actually, I don’t really care about giving your father prestige. I just want to pass the martial exam and become a high-ranking official, even higher than your father, so I can ask Prince Xing to examine what illness you truly have.” She candidly shared one of her intentions.

Taoming Ye, moved, held her hand tightly. He opened his mouth, wanting to criticize his poor health and thank her, but before he could speak, she interrupted.

She even covered his mouth.

”Don’t say anything. I just want you to know how much I care about you. As for those self-blaming words, don’t even think them. Even if I had a bit of disdain for you, I wouldn’t behave like this. I just want to heal you. I don’t want you to be like this, because your poor health pains me. I’ve never truly cared for anyone, but since marrying you, I only care for you. If you act distant, thinking that your health burdens me, then you’re hurting my heart. I care so much about you, how could you hurt my heart like that?”

Taoming Ye felt both moved and amused, lowered her hand covering his mouth, gently kissed it, and said, ”I won’t hurt your heart.”

He gently kissed her hand again before continuing, ”Grandma told me long ago, you were there too, and I’ve come to terms with it. It’s just sometimes I feel my body is quite useless; being sickly is one thing, but you even exhaust yourself trying to heal me... I’m not being distant, it’s just seeing you work so hard for me makes me ache. Everyone knows you cherish me, but don’t I cherish you too? Why can you care for me, but not let me care for you?”

In the last sentence, he mimicked her tone.

”You’re mimicking me!” Su Xing, both exasperated and amused, lay on him, hitting him. Of course, she didn’t use much force.

Taoming Ye smiled warmly, letting her ’hit’ him, while wrapping his arms around her slender waist, even lifting his head to kiss her lips.

Having been kissed, Su Xing stopped hitting Taoming Ye, lowered her head willingly, so he didn’t have to lift his head to kiss her.

Between husband and wife, being distant is the worst fear. Once distant, then the other becomes a stranger. But between him and her, there’s no distance, just her caring for him and his caring for her.

The two of them cleared the air entirely, their hearts felt as if soaked in honey, so sweet and sweet.

”Xin’er, I feel a bit...” As they kissed, Taoming Ye’s gentle, deep voice began to turn hoarse, seemingly suppressing something.
