Peaceful Farm Life

Chapter 2514: Chapter 2515: Return to Tianyun (81)

Liu Buli was highly valued by both a king and an emperor; as long as Liu Buli submitted a memorial to impeach him, he’d really be in for it.

Now that the head of this great household had gotten into trouble, the Tao Mansion would naturally be implicated as well.

Tao Chengyin broke out in a cold sweat just thinking about it.

Su Xing smiled and said, ”Dad, it’s all over now. Why keep thinking about it and making yourself unhappy? Didn’t you say you wanted to go to my mother’s family and ask my grandmother to let us go back and impose on her for a year? Dad, you’d better hurry, or you’ll miss lunch at my mother’s house if you’re too late.”

Tao Chengyin was immediately amused. ”All right, all right, I’ll go right now. I’ve prepared plenty of gifts; the Servants have already loaded everything onto the carriages. They’re just waiting for me to get on and leave.”

Su Xing said, ”Just a little is enough, no need for so much.”

”It’s necessary, it’s necessary. Other women go back to their maiden homes just for a short stay and they all bring gifts. You and Ye’er are going to stay for nearly a year—of course gifts are needed. All right, quickly help Ye’er back, I’m off.” Not bothering whether Su Xing and Taoming Ye were still in the study or not, Tao Chengyin straightened his clothes and left.

Only after seeing Tao Chengyin leave did Su Xing help Taoming Ye back.

On the way back, Su Xing still couldn’t help saying to Taoming Ye in a low voice, ”I don’t really mind that the Duke hasn’t had any dealings with my family all these years. It’s just that my grandmother has really had it too hard. She’s at such an advanced age, yet she’s been holding the family up all on her own. If it weren’t for having me, this granddaughter, to raise and educate, she, widowed of husband and son, would have collapsed under her grief long ago.”

”If that Duke had only...” At this point, perhaps her emotions burst out; Su Xing’s voice even choked. ”Even if... even if in all these years he’d only come to my family once, just once, my grandmother wouldn’t have had it so hard. As long as he maintained contact, others wouldn’t dare look down on my grandmother or bully her household just because there were no men to rely on. But ever since my father passed away, he’s never had any dealings with my family again...”

Taoming Ye listened quietly, tightly holding her hand.

Su Xing sniffed and then said, ”Other people don’t know how hard my grandmother has had it, and my grandmother never talks about it to outsiders, but I’ve seen it all with my own eyes. She’s suffered so much—how do you expect me to feel close to that Duke?”

At this moment, Su Xing even felt that she had become Huo Xiner. All that heartache Huo Xiner had once felt for her grandmother was now erupting in her own heart. She really felt miserable.

Taoming Ye squeezed her hand even tighter and said, ”Now that you’ve passed as a Martial Talent, Grandmother already feels she can hold her head a bit higher. Once you become the Martial Champion, then Grandmother will truly be able to hold her head high.”

”I didn’t think that far before, but now I’ve gained another reason why I have to become Martial Champion. Husband, I’m definitely going to pass as Martial Champion.”

”Mm, you’ll definitely make it.”

Su Xing couldn’t help laughing. ”You’re that sure?”

”I believe in my wife’s abilities.” Taking advantage of the fact that no one was around, Taoming Ye stole a quick kiss from Su Xing.

Su Xing actually blushed a little; her husband had never kissed her like this outside in broad daylight before.

”Feeling a bit better now?” He paused. ”Want me to kiss you again?” It was rare for him to tease her.

Su Xing didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. She gave him a light push, then continued walking back with him to the courtyard where they lived.

After a while, she still opened her mouth and said with a smile, ”I do feel better.”

He gave her a gentle look. ”That’s good.”

Such plain words, yet they still made Su Xing feel Tian Tian in her heart. Although her husband’s health was poor, he truly treated her very, very well.
