Chapter 2510: Chapter 2511: Return to Tianyun (77)

Su Xing did not immediately speak to them, but instructed Hong Ye, ”Take two maidservants, carry some crystal cakes, and follow the Third Young Master and Fifth Young Master to the front hall to offer them to the sons of the Chief of Staff.”

Hong Ye promptly agreed and hurried to prepare.

Only then did Su Xing turn to Tao Mingsheng and Tao Mingqing and say, ”You should tell them that these crystal cakes were personally made by me and are different from the usual ones. Since I can’t greet them myself, I hope they will at least have some tea and eat the cakes before leaving. Their fathers are all such high-ranking officials, so they must be well-mannered. If you say this, they will surely stay to eat before leaving. And don’t be overly cautious; take the opportunity to chat with them more. You also have some knowledge, and as you converse, perhaps you’ll become friends with them. As long as you have learning and talent, even if you are born out of wedlock, they will hold you in higher regard. Also, don’t forget, Tianyun places a high value on ’ability’.”

Tao Mingsheng and Tao Mingqing were even more moved: ”Sister-in-law, you are so considerate.”

Su Xing smiled and said, ”I am older than you after all. Now, go quickly, don’t let them wait too long, or it won’t have the desired effect.”

”Okay.” Tao Mingqing and Tao Mingsheng quickly left with Hong Ye and her companions to the front hall.

Initially, Tao Mingqing and Tao Mingsheng felt somewhat inferior and lacked confidence, especially when faced with so many legitimate sons of the Chief of Staff, and might very likely have been timid. However, because of Su Xing’s additional words, they felt more assured. Even though they still felt inferior inside, in front of those legitimate sons, they presented themselves as poised, well-mannered, and knowledgeable.

At first, the legitimate sons of the Chief of Staff looked down on Tao Mingsheng and Tao Mingqing, considering them commons sons, but they didn’t show it on their faces. Later, they found that Tao Mingsheng and Tao Mingqing were eloquent, and their impressions changed, showing interest in further interactions.

Some of the legitimate sons even suggested having a drink at Zuixian Tower in a few days, inviting Tao Mingsheng and Tao Mingqing to join, stating that if they didn’t come, it would be considered disrespectful.

Tao Mingsheng and Tao Mingqing had no choice but to agree.

The legitimate sons of the Chief of Staff also found the crystal cakes quite refreshing and wanted to know the recipe, but Tao Mingsheng and Tao Mingqing didn’t know it. Fortunately, Hong Ye was still there and helped by sharing the recipe on the spot.

Although they didn’t meet the top female scholar in martial arts, they made two genuine friends they could appreciate, and gained a new recipe; the Chief of Staff’s sons left satisfied.

Seeing the sons of the Chief of Staff off, Tao Mingsheng and Tao Mingqing both breathed a sigh of relief and then exchanged a smile.

At this moment, their mindset had already changed, and they no longer felt so inferior.

As soon as they returned to Taoming Ye’s courtyard, they happily told Taoming Ye and Su Xing, ”They invited us to Zuixian Tower for a drink in two days. If we don’t go, they would be upset, so we had to agree.”

Taoming Ye just smiled without saying anything.

Su Xing, however, laughed and said, ”That’s great, you are both grown now, and it’s time to go out and interact with people more, it also lets you see more of the world.” After a pause, ”The legitimate sons of the Chief of Staff have all come, and I suppose some housekeeper’s children will come in the following days. At that time, Third Brother and Fifth Brother, you can represent me to meet them.”

”Is that appropriate...” Tao Mingqing and Tao Mingsheng both felt uneasy. Today they had an excuse, as they happened to be at her place, but could they use the same excuse next time? Whom are they fooling? They couldn’t even fool themselves!
